It seems no one likes Redguards?

Post » Mon Nov 28, 2011 9:42 pm

I like Reguards, and most of the other races. The only one I have had trouble with was the Argonians, and their appearance has improved so much with Skyrim that I am hoping I will enjoy having an Argonian character this time.

for skyrim i'll have atleast 1 playthrough for each race. Redguard will be around my fifth playthrough and i'll be a adventurer/ranger type character.
Also I dont think that people dont like redguards they probably think (like me) that they're just nothing special.
Dunmer are awesome to me because they're a great warrior/spellsword/archer/mage because they're good in blade marksmen and destruction. They look really cool and they seem like a anti-hero sought of race.

It has never bothered me....Yeah they look african american. But I have always prefered to play Dunmer. To me they always seemed like the most well rounded people in skills for the game.

Peple connect Redguards to real life african americans(or other african ethnic group.) all the time.. but why? I mean I know they look similar but that doesn't mean they are similar. For example, I have read on the internet that a lot of people get "turned off" of playing red guards because they are considered the "black" race.. even though they are just another race of human in the TES world right? Anyway, it just seems a lot of people dislike Redguards. but why is that? I personally like Redguards a lot, but it could be because I am african american.. I don't know. I also like orcs a lot though.. so I think it is just a matter of preference. However what is interesting is.. a lot of people like dark elves who have DARK skin.. like darker than redguards skin.. yet people love dunmer? Why? is it because the dunmer basically have no connection to a real life race? What do you guys think?

I can't speak for anyone else, but for me, I like Redguards partly because they seem like outsiders (having lost their initial homeland). Also, I spent some time in scandinavia and met an uber-dark skinned african girl who had been adopted into a Danish family. She was probably the most beautiful girl I've ever seen, and probably ever will see. She had the most amazing eyes (and legs!!) and I'm really hoping that Bethesda put someone remotely like her in the game. If not, then my first mod will be to put her in. Finding someone to do her increadible and unique accent will probably be unpossible tho.

As for skin color. I don't have much use for it. I hear alot of people saying that they want someone that they can identify with, but I have found that the people I have the most in common with also look NOTHING like me or like each other (race/size/weight... gender? well maybe, but not always. There are some pretty wierd girls out there)

I like them because they are seafaring people with a strong navy and love for the ocean. Which I think should be implemented a lot more.

That is indeed interesting! :)

Never play as one though, might be 'cause i RP myself! ;)

Dude, no offense, but RPing yourself is not really RPing! But I know what you mean. I like to feel like it's really me in the game. I am not black in RL and have no magical ability, but I feel like playing a redguard wizard is like "RPing myself". And I generally don't look anything like a "Reguard".

I don't really identify myself with my appearance. Basically, I look pretty "normal" for a mutt. Black people think I'm white. Mexicans think I'm stupid (because I don't speak spanish). And white people always ask me what race I am. I've even been mistaken by natives speakers for being everything from french to arab. I'm happy to let them think I am whatever they think I am because it makes them more comfortable, but it all makes me think that skin color is the least significant thing that defines me.

I know sounds strange but if their voices were more exotic and not so next door, I'd like them better. In fact more appropiate accents in general would be great. ( Nords should sound more like Vilja not Linda Carter IMO)

"However, they could not stand against the forces of Tiber Septim and the Numidium, which crushed the Dominion and finally brought the Summerset Isle into the Imperial fold in 2E 896. Then, in the War of the Isle of 3E 110, the Maormer were on the brink of finally taking Summerset, and the Altmer had to accept assistance from the Empire to survive.[ The Altmer remember these incidents with shame and horror, and they have likely contributed to recent social unrest amongst their youth."

Numidium and ONLY Numidium defeated Summerset Isle.

It's not the Brass God that wrecks everything so much as it is all the plane(t)s and timelines that orbit it, singing world-refusals.

The Surrender of Alinor happened in one hour, but Numidium's siege lasted from the Mythic Era until long into the Fifth. Some Mirror Logicians of the Altmer fight it still in chrysalis shells that phase in and out of Tamrielic Prime, and their brethren know nothing of their purpose unless they stare too long and break their own possipoints.

^This. I think accents would make the game much more believable. I wonder if there is a German or Norwegian version with voice overs...

Once again, it baffles me where people are getting all this aggregate data from. We've had a "how come no one likes ___________" for every single race so far.

When I think Redguard I think brave loyal warriors, not Africans. Even though now they look really african.

I personally connect Redguards to African Hungarians but that's just me. :P

OT: Like what someone else I also forgot to formerly quote said, There has already been why does everyone hate: Kahjitt, Altmer, Bosmer, Imperial, Orc, and now Redguard thread.

I don't know why but I find Redguards just meh, its not that I dislike them, it's just... meh...

I don't associate them with black people. I just don't like them because they always seem like d!ck holes, and I cannot stand their voice. They sound like they've got a bad attitude; a chip on their shoulder. I avoid all Redguard merchants, and do not talk to any of them unless it's required as they annoy me so much.

I tend to like Bretons because I am human. I also like using magic so using a Redguard wouldn't suit me.

I think what colored my "somewhat" dislike of them was the two voices actors hired to voice them. Ugh - least favorite in the games. Well, Linda Carter got on my nerves too.

no one likes redguards? Because poison resistance is silly; argonians do better and also breathe under water!
Unless you like swords, I guess.

Otherwise Nords are total frost ballers with Blunt
And Orcs straight up resist magick, with crazy axe awesomeness.

I'm indifferent to them, they are however the most generic of all the races "naturally talented warriors" I mean seriously...Bretons are half-elf with magic, Imperials are Romans and diplomats, Nords are Vikings and the Mer and Beast races are all distinct-Redguards don't have anything that really sets them apart or gives them an edge/distinction.

Ha! you mean being able to use your soul as a sword thats capable of spliting atoms isn't distinct or edgy? read the lore friend.

I like to play races that look like myself.... that's why i play Nord. My only guess is that other people do the same and the vast majority of elder scrolls fans are white.

I like Redguards well enough, I played one in Daggerfall and joined the Knights of the Hawk. If you're playing a warrior type in Skyrim though, I think most people would choose a Nord for homeland stuffs. Much the reason people like Dark Elves I expect, though I'd say Imperials weren't distinct enough in Oblivion to inspire much love.
