Seen any... ELVES?

The main reason the Nords hate Elves is because of a mytheo-ideological conflict between men and mer.
The Nords worship Shor (Lorkhan), the deity responsible for creating the world, and they see his sacrifice and creation as bestowing the great gift of potential to them.
The mer, on the other hand (excepting the Dunmer), think that Lorkhan stole their previous divine perfection and trapped them as fallible, temporal mortals.

Men think they're the rising ape, Mer think they're the fallen angel, to be loose with an anology, and both attribute their state to Lorkhan.
This opposed view leads to endless animosity. And they do have a history of conflict and antagonism.
(So yes, mirglif, this was planned long before Skyrim.)

And yeah OP, the Nords aren't too fond of the Bretons, as the Bretons originated as the offspring of captured Nord slaves and Aldmer. They've got elf-blood in them, and the Nords dislike it.

Historically, the Dunmer and Nords have been enemies because of territorial disputes, but I'll be interested to see how that changes with the Dunmer becoming refugees.

As for Orcs, some of them are attempting to become more civilized, and are turning away from Malacath worship (God of Pariahs and Outcasts) to once again worship Trinimac, their leader from the days when they were a group of Aldmer, and not hideous green monsters.
Most of the Orcs outside of Orsinimium think this is traitorous heresy.
So there'll be some good conflict there, hopefully, although that was taking place two hundred years before Skyrim... Hopefully it will have developed in that time.

Fascinating background, thanks for sharing this.

Racism? This ridiculing, absolutely annoying, unsolicited, question didn't make any sense. Half of Morrowind is made up of elves. you might as well ask the question, "Seen any... Hopi?" in New Mexico.

I think that's kind of the point of the joke. It's still not as funny as the Nords seem to think it is, but just because I'm not laughing at a joke doesn't mean I don't recognize it as such.

But yes, according to Todd Howard, racism will be more prevelent in Skyrim than it was in Oblivion, but really, that's to be expected, Cyrodiil was the capital of the Empire, the cosmopolitan center of a political organization that spans a continent, naturally, people of different races are going to be more accepted than in a land of barbarians, especially one whose natives have been known to resent at least some of the other races, and with it being elves who are the subject of racism this time, maybe I'll actually be able to relate to the racist characters instead of just wanting to kill them and lamenting that the game doesn't give us enough cruel ways to do so like in Morrowind, who knows, maybe I'll even be able to not hate the elves of the Elder Scrolls after I see them being the ones being mistreated instead of the other way around.

Im an Altmer.
And I have this feeling that means Im supposed to be on the side of Alduin.
Plenty of reason for Nords or humans to hate me.
Then again, what lesser races think of me doesnt really concern me ;)
