Selecting World space Tamriel crashes the CS

Post » Thu Jul 22, 2010 6:15 pm

When I select Tamriel under world spaces, the CS outright crashes.

I can select any other worlds space just fine, no crash, everything works correctly.

PC specs:

2.4 quad core

4 gigs of RAM

Win 7 64 bit home premium

8800 GTS 512MB

Thus far I've tried running it as admin, changing compatablity mode to xp SP2 and SP3, same thing keeps happening.

Any ideas on how to make it not crash?

define, "crash". I have a similar set-up, but with the 32bit OS and I find that when loading that worldspace the CS tends to freeze for about 30 seconds, trying to do anything with it during that time can trigger the "program not responding" pop-up.

TES Construction Set has stopped working

A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.
Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available

The only option then is the close the program if I move the "close program" button window thing out of the way, the CS is just hung up, non responsive, and graphically glitching.

If this helps at all:

The reason I'm trying to do this is for the Stirk mod.

It adds land mass outside the standard boarders, so it won't show on a standard map. I have a modified map, that is bigger then normal, showing this new place. However, all the map icons are out of place now.

This is what the mod read me suggests to fix it:

Open up Stirk in the Construction Set, set as Active File.
In the menu, go to World > World Space and select Tamriel from the list
Change the Usable Dimentions to 2055 and 1830. Change NW X to -59, NW Y to 47, SE X to 59, and SE Y to -58.
Save, plug, and play.

However, as I've said, CS crashes when I select Tamriel from that list.

I was having a similar problem until I read your post, Majin Zero. (I was trying to edit it with just the Oblivion esm. Make sure you check both the TR Stirk ESM and ESP, and select the esp file (so its highlighted) and click "Set as Active" on the bottom left. That got rid of the crash for me.

However, now it crashes every time I try to load the map image I desire. Maybe I'll just leave that be for the moment.

An alternative solution, I guess, would be to use the Merged Maps esp and then override its map with the one you are trying to install.

I'm using Elven Map Compilation 6, which according to the photo on the Stirk Tesnexus page doesn't differ drastically from what is already there (just moves the northwest only two cells). I'm not sure what map/instructions you are using, but your changes are more significant than mine.

EDIT: Hmm. I was trying to get the Merged Maps to use my Elven map, no such luck yet. Keeps crashing on me. <_<

I ended up doing your later suggestion, however I'm happy to report it worked correctly for me.

However, no matter what, CS still crashes.

I suppose the immediate need is no longer there, but it still bugs me that it crashes so I'd like to find a fix if possible still.

alternatively to moving the map, you should ensure stirk is at the bottom of your load order and use Bash to update graphics. this may fix the problem.

No offense, but I fail to see how that would work.

I'm using a custom map file, that's much larger then normal. The Stirk mod doesn't mess with the map what-so-ever, so you need a custom map to have Stirk listed on the world map.

As I said, the merged maps mod fixes the map marker positioning, so everything is "fixed" in game, but I'd still like to find out why the CS crashes on me when I select Tamriel under world spaces.
