Self-Imposed Downtime

Post » Sat Jan 16, 2016 7:54 pm

If I am playing and then have to step "AFK", so to speak, for any length of time (such as to eat dinner - anything where I am still in the house), I simply put my PS4 into Rest Mode (which is such a great feature!). I would think that Rest Mode suspends the in-game clock, so you don't get another hour of total game time tacked on. I think the same would go for simply pausing the game by pressing Start/Options/Esc.

All our saves are in D : H : M format, it is only Steam that tracks it by hours only. 33 days 14 hours is a little over 800 hours, great value for your money.

Yeah, for around 5 weeks in a row all I have been doing when I get home from work is to fire up Fallout 4 and start playing during the weekdays. I suppose I somehow managed to eat, sleep and bathe as well because apparently I have not died from starvation yet, I do not feel very tired and no one at work has been telling me that I reek like hell.

I did impose some downtime on myself in mid December though. Instead of playing Fallout 4 I got back into playing Star Trek Online (STO) so I can participate in the Winter Event to eventually claim a free starship when the event ends next week. Not a very popular MMO game, but I like it. So now after work I either play Fallout 4, STO or a combination of the two.

I get the feeling that most individuals posting in the forums are PC users, which would explain the overabundance of tracking gameplay by hours.

Not viewing it as a problem.

Just back from work - what's relaxation time?

No matter how much you like (or are addicted to) Fallout 4, do not become this person....

It's like having two jobs, really. "In one life, you're Thomas A. Anderson, a computer programmer for a respectable software company. In the other, you go by the Wasteland alias "Big Joe" and are guilty of virtually every crime known to man. One of these lives has a future. The other does not."

um.... Do the main quest, it gives you more story to make you less bored, that's like saying "I got bored watching the first half of the godfather 13 times, I never watched the second half of the movie."

Pfft who needs tv when you have two monitors and enough ram to watch stuff AND play Fallout 4 on the same pc :P Stream watching while gaming has become a new hobby of mine.

Curious, time posting on the forums, isn't that "down time" since you are not playing Fallout 4? :P

Yeah, that might be an issue. I play on PC, so i have a monitor and tv next to each other, so it's easy ^_^

The key is to concentrate on the TV during loading screens and the filler combat parts ;) And of course the story parts you already know.

That's pretty much the only thing i use my PS3 for these days :lmao:

This is when I plot my next moves in-game based on new locations and quests I read about =)

Loading screens are what books are for....though admittedly my loading times are pretty quick, so I rarely actually get any reading done. I just like the comfort of always having a book nearby. :)

I'm too involved in my games to be able to focus on anything else. There is no such thing as filler combat in my world, and story parts are there to be soaked in and experienced by each character uniquely! Having some real world interruption such as TV would break my immersion.

I haven't yet figured out how to get away with playing Fallout at work. :P

Anyway, I'm resolved: no FO4 tonight. I'm making a batch of soap and catching up on back episodes of Dr Who and/or watching the Shannara pilot. (I really mean it this time!)

My crashed HD dictated this downtime to me along with a new play through (3rd go). :brokencomputer: Yes, I learn a renewed lesson pertaining to back-ups . . . I hope it sticks this time

The trouble is that the Commonwealth is full of shiny things! It is tough to call it quits for the night.

"Open up the marina for settlers, Preston? Sure thing!

Never been there, but I've been to that satellite installation nearby.

I'll just FT to the front gate and tippy-toe past without shooting anybody."

"Piper! WITHOUT shooting... Oh, for the love of... Lock and load!"

And so it goes. You may just want to clear that "one more site", but the fun just reaches out and grabs you. Or throws grenades sometimes.

We always lived where you can't get cable, but we always had satellite. We got rid of it 5 years ago and don't miss it at all. If there's something we hear about that we want to see we rent it or buy it when it's on sale. Target is excellent for putting TV series' on sale dirt cheap around the holidays.

As for the topic at hand, man, I really need to get away from Fallout. I haven't done a thing since I got it. Of course, I've been sick the last couple weeks so I wouldn't have been doing anything anyway. But I still haven't gotten to the point where I'm like, "Meh, should I play Fallout out or watch Dumb And Dumber To?". I still always want to play.

I desperately need a job. That's the only thing that's going to break this cycle. Then I won't touch it until next winter when it's too crappy outside to do anything. During the spring and summer months I'm outside all the time.

Too bad. I'm probably older than you, and I get lost in video games'. Have done for a long time.

I was so far gone in ESO I had a character that would get away on me. She would attack city guards for lipping off, something no one else I ever created would, kinda blew my mind the first time it happened. Uhh huh. ;)

I put shows up on my laptop so I can multitask while I play. and when I'm feeling really frisky i'll play fallout shelter on my tablet at the same time.
