[IdeaWIP?] Self-Interested Merchants

I open this thread to receive feedback and generate dicussion on an idea I had. The idea consists on changing the items the merchants sell to the player and the items the merchants buy from the player. More specifically:

1. Merchants don't buy anything from the player. Their purpose in the game is no longer to buy your unwanted loot so that you can get rich. Instead, their new goal is to sell their own items to you in hopes of making a living out of it.

2. Merchants have worth-buying items in stock: items will be both unlevelled and tempered and their quality will depend on the skill of the artisan that sells them (for blacksmiths) or their assumed influence (general stores in cities are assumed to be more well-stocked than those in villages; in Windhelm, stores owned by Nords are assumed to be more well-stocked than stores owned by Dunmer etc).

How would gameplay change if this idea became a mod? In at least 4 ways:

1. You no longer need to become a blacksmith to obtain good weapons and armor. Want a legendary ebony sword? There is a legendary blacksmith in Whiterun that will suit you up...as long as you have the coin.

2. Since purchasable items will be unlevelled and tempered, they will usually be better than what you can find as loot. I'd like daedric artificats and other unique items to be the only exceptions to this rule.

3. Looting gear that you don't want to use yourself will be useless (because you can't sell it).

4. Getting rich will be much, much, MUCH harder. Suddenly, quests that offer gold rewards become much more attractive.

How would I implement this changes?

Manual edits, no scripts. Some perks in the speech tree would have to be changed (investor etc.)

And what about fences from the Thief Guild?

They will still buy stolen goods (and only stolen goods) as usual. Unlike merchants, buying from the player makes sense in this case.

Thanks for reading! Any thoughts on the idea are welcome.

Oh, that is actually a pretty sweet idea. It'd solve one of Skyrim's biggest issues: Money (Get rich far too fast - it's as if the economy is inflated! Or well, every penny in the empire ends up in the players' purse).

I'll certainly keep my eye on this.

Oh, and a quick suggestion: If small random quests were introduced for different shop owners, such as 'fetch iron ingot/s', it'd work quite nicely, I do believe - it'd also make sense and give you the ability to get rid of resources that are of little value to you, but would be of value to the shop owner.
