Self Made Campsites in Skyrim?

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 6:07 am

I was thinking that it would be cool to have an option to pitch you own tent, put down your bed roll and build a fire.

This would be kind of like Red Dead, except you are not just limit to fast travel and what to. It would be like the campsites you find in Oblivion etc... but you can place it down yourself, and pack it back up.

If i am going for a long treck up a mountain and it gets dark, i want to build a fire, pitch my tent and cook my dinnner on my fire. Then sleep on my bed roll.

Anyone got thoughts on whether this would a pretty cool idea?

This would be a nice little thing. Have all the items you need be in your inventory and then you can hit use on them and they would appear. The fire should be just wood at first and you would have to hit it with a fire spell or something to get it going but that would ward off any creatures during the night like in real life. Otherwise if you were to sleep you may be woken early by an attack.

I have heard that there will be cooking and things in Skyrim, so it sounds like they are adding a survival element to it, where you can't just run for 36 hrs on the trot without eating or sleeping.
it would be good if maybe it became very difficult to navigate (maybe the map became disabled) or dangerous during storms and at night, so if you were caught in the wilderness after dark, you would have to set up camp and carry on in the morning.

I know how awesome would something like this be in the game. And it would be so simple to implement i reckon. Also i would really love Bethesda to add some sort of survival aspect to the game. Woodcutting(I Think?....) is in the game so the ability to make camp fires seems to fit.

I could have sworn Todd talked about this somewhere. The guys at Bethesda are big RDR fans, so I would actually be surprised if a feature like this isn't in Skyrim.

that is a beast of an idea, i would love that.

the fire would ward of creatures and obviously be used to cook,But i love the idea of storms pinning the player down so he has to set up camp and move on later.

Would be great for RPers I reckon (and doubly great if there was a hardcoe/survival mode to necessitate sleep).

Would be pretty cool.

It was already discussed here not too long ago: http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1166420-campfire-making-is-it-true/

That would be awesome to have a mode like that. Stuff like if you dont sleep, your fatigue starts to recover slower depending on how sleep deprived you are. You start to walk slower and the ability to sprint is lost, would be awesome to have a mode like this. I am definetly up for extreme role playing.

Yeah this is a good idea. I for one want a survival element, and this would be a big piece of it.
I see this as a mod very quick, if its not in the base game.
Honestly, I don't think its going to be in the game, in my opinion it seems like things like this, that aren't directly attatched to core gameplay, are going to set aside.

But its a great idea, it will probably be moded in very quickly.

It's a great idea. I really hope something like this and a survival mode are incorporated. After enjoying that aspect of New Vegas, I'd be a bit disappointed with Skyrim if it had nothing like that. I can't believe no one's made a joke about pitching a tent.

Should definitely be in the game! I had to go and clear out bandit camps in Oblivion and pretend they were mine lol! Then I'd get really annoyed I couldn't move them!! Having said that there needs to be restrictions on where you can camp, maybe not in a dungeon for example.

I think that was one of the first mods I downloaded for Oblivion.. Yes.. I believe if there are going to be large areas not close to towns that a having camp supplies and being able to set one up should be in.

"Ahhh heh heh HEH heh heh ... ummmmm. .. he said 'pitch a tent' heh heh HEH heh heh ummmm. YEAH!"
-------

Did anyone else notice how in the latest Harry Potter they started out with this tiny little tent but by like 30 minutes later, they had this caravan with tables and cots and stoves and like EVERYTHING? ... I know magic is cool but they didn't even try to explain how she pulled tables out of her hat, they just hoped we wouldn't notice... I hope for Skyrim is IF it has these features, that the system makes a lot more sense.

My idea was small foldable shovel that you can dig an snow/ice cave with. You can build the cave anywhere in the snow or ice, it shows a little animation of you getting your shovel out, then there's a door to click on in the ice and when you click it, you arrive (load into) in a hole in the ice that you almost see through to the world above. Light can barely creep in through the opaque ceiling and in there you have a big blanket you can curl up in so you aren't touching the snow. There is a small hand-sized magic runestone that burns magically all night long so you don't need a real fire. You sleep basically right next to that stone, plenty warm, all night. In the morning you collect the stone back into your inventory and the game exits you from your makeshift cave back onto the surface again.

I also hope someone will mod in a way for me to erm .... 'pitch a tent', just not in the way you meant it.... :nope:

Maybe if you highlight a stack of wood in the inventory, it'll give you the option to set up a fire. Or it'd just put a stac on the ground, so you can use a fire spell or torch to light it up. Next, you can highlight your bedroll or tent in the inventory to set it up as well. Or pitch it ;)

It wouldn't hurt to have this feature. Even in Oblivion, there would be an interesting plateau cliff...and i'd feel the need to make a nice little tent and call it my home.

Thank god for mods.
