No self shadowing...

Post » Tue Aug 31, 2010 9:41 pm

If you take a look at the screenshots, there appears to be a lack of self-shadowing. I know the PC version of Oblivion has self-shadowing. I'm thinking the screens are from the console versions.

Pretty sure they mentioned that there is self shadowing in skyrim (and I've learned that on these forums that I said "Pretty sure" meaning that I am not stating a fact) They definitely said that every object casts a shadow. I don't see a screenshot in which you could really discern whether there is self-shadowing in the game but there was self-shadowing in Oblivion so it stands that there should be in Skyrim as well.

Look at the picture when you get the magazine of the forest giant. Absolute self shadowed. Proof? 11 months and we'll see.

yep your right Page 54, all the proof you need
also the guy getting kill on page 52 it looks like there is some shadow on his right gauntlet, it may just be the blood or it could be both

Looks like the console version to me.

I hope so, despite the game having a fantastic overall look, a lot of the meshes and textures look a little low-poly and muddy, even when factoring in the quality of the scans.

Well if I can't even notice it then they must be doing something right. And after going back and looking at that frost troll thing, yeah, that's self shadowing. And it doesn't look bad.

people are so stupid on these forums....the graphics are amazing the game is far from finished.....

i agree with two of your points, but the game is really close to being finished bro. the technical details are done, it's almost certainly feature-complete, and as of like two months ago they're doing voice work. they're not going to go back and completely overhaul any of the rendering elements unless something horrible happens.

The 360 version has Argonians...

Who the hell needs self shadowing, you guys are so selfish. Can't you let others have shadows for a chance?

I could swear Morrowind has self-shadowing, as well. I know my character in Morrowind had a shadow.

Argonians are in the 360 version of Oblivion as well.

They simply have not decided to show much of the races yet. Both the PC and 360 will feature Argonians in Skyrim, and I'm sure it won't be long till we get some screens.

Yeah but it said in the article that there were two console exclusive races, argonians on 360 and Khajit on PS3. It didn't say whether PC would get them or maybe a third, new race?

What about us PS3 players? We're not getting Argonians? What?!?!?!?!?! :P

For some reason I highly doubt this, I'm still waiting for my mag in the mail...but this is highly suspect...

On page 48 under the "a new land" section it says that every object in the world casts perfect shadows so "if" we count the characters as objects then probably a yes, thats all we know for now so wait a few months for some gameplay footage before giveing it the thumbs down. :)

look at the Giants lower right leg. look at the arm with the club casting a very obvious shadow across his lower torso.

look at the bar stool in the background of the pic with the barmaid chick.

also a Dev confirmed shadows.

Can't say I share the tastes of the nay-sayers on this one. I always felt that Oblivion's self-cast shadows improved the game's aesthetic, at the highest settings anyway.

I too call shenanigans! Even if the article had not been released yet I wouldn't believe that for a second. Bethesda is not about to bring down a firestorm upon themselves, they're smarter than that. You are completely and utterly misinformed I'm afraid.

I don't know where this Exclusive race thing came from, but be assured, it says we'll be getting 10.... TEN races, which are ALL of the playable races from previous games. ( Unless they took one out and replaced it ) . I simply don't see a reason why'd they make a race unavailable for a certain gaming system, just isn't right. So, calm down.

You can clearly see self shadows in almost every single screen with an NPC in it.

End of thread.

How did this get to 3 pages?
