Selling my last gen console?

Post » Tue Aug 04, 2015 8:12 am

I been saving up for a ps4 for a while now and currently I'm 200 dollars short but I'm getting there. But recently it occurs to me that I haven't been playing my ps3 for a while now and whenever I think about games I keep thinking of the current gen line up of games. So I wanted to hear other people opinions on these questions.

1: Do you believe that the last gen is dead?

2: How much would a ps3 and 5 or 6 games sell?

3: Is there anything on last gen that makes it worth keeping my ps3?

I′m still getting games for my NES and none come dirt cheap, so....

No idea, but I reckon you′d be better off keeping the system and the games. One year from now you may get an itch to play again and then you will still have it all to enjoy. If you sell it not only won′t you be able to play, my bet is that one year from now the money you got for it is long gone.

I′d say Morrowind, Oblivion and Fallout 3. I don′t play PS3 myself so I can′t give any good suggestions other than those.

Bottom line: KEEP IT! :)

Look on eBay or Gumtree to see an idea of how much they are going for. You may be £200 short for buying the console, just remember to factor in money for buying games for said console too. It would svck for you to sell your PS3 and all of your games, only to replace it with a PS4 and only 1 game.

Not for me, no. There is one upcoming PS3 exclusive game I look forward to play, Yakuza 5. Not to mention I have a bunch of unplayed PS3 games waiting to be played

Only you can answer that, you know your own gaming taste better than anyone. But me, I'm gonna keep it, in case I ever feel the urge to play Nier or the Yakuza series in the future.

I do not have a PS3. But maybe one day I will buy one. Only 9 months ago I bought my 360 and about 6 months ago a X1.

I would not sell it if you have any plans to play those games you do have, since you might not have that option on the PS4 or on a PC if it is a console exclusive.

Only you can decide if you want to sell it. You likely will not get that much for it but you might be able to trade the console and the games at the store and get a discount on the PS4.

Hmm, if you have an XBOX 360 it makes no sense to buy a PS3 - perhaps for the exclusives, if you find some that are worth.

And the same goes for the XBOX One !!!

So, except the exclusives, there is not much of a diffrence if you get the one or the other console.

1: No, not yet.

2: No idea. I'm an Xbox and PC user.

3: Probably not, as the PS3 is more limited than the Xbox 360. The only reason you should have is possibly for PS3-exclusive games that will not be upgraded to PS4.

1. No, I don't. There's still games coming out for it (admittedly, mostly in the niche/JRPG areas) that won't be crippled.

2. Not a clue, I've never tried to sell a console before. And the price on games varies widely, based on rarity & demand.

3. As others have said, that's your call to make. If you think you'll want to replay the games you have from that gen, or not. And given that PS3->4 backward compatibility is probably never going to be a thing.....

1- Nope. Still plenty of games made for it.

2- Well, if you do decide to sell it, you can possibly get over $150 at a gamestop toward a PS4.

3- I still have my PS3. Mainly use it for Netflix but its still there. The games I had on PS3 I can play on PS4.

If you have played Morrowind and/or Oblivion then there is Skyrim to play. Other than that I dunno, sorry I don't own PS3.

There are quite a few exclusives.

Besides I would still get Oblivion, Skyrim, New Vegas, and Fallout 3 for it.

I was recently at Gamestop and on a lark decided to ask them what they'd give me for my 1st-gen 60GB PS3. The answer was $5.

These things are selling on Ebay for at least $100.

Of course the only thing I use it for is playing PS2 games and as a Blu-Ray player.

Personally, I find selling your old consoles stupid unless you just don't care. I still own my PS2 and frequently go to thrift stores to get PS2 games. It's better to hold onto your old systems so you can get old games on the cheap and not get ripped off by Gamestop and the likes.

None of the older consoles are dead. (well, except maybe the Virtual Boy)
Just remember that once you sell your PS3, say goodbye to any game you may want to play on it later. The PS3 has a massive, awesome library of games, so unless you've played them all you're going to miss out.

Not sure why people are recommending Morrowind. It's only available on PC and the original Xbox. (which does work on the 360)
But there's no Playstation version of any sort

I sold my PS3 to afford an Xbox One and I regretted selling it soon after, because there was a lot of last gen games I had the urge to play.

But thankfully Xbox One is getting backwards compatibility later this year so this problem I have will soon be over! :D

But seeing as you're getting a PS4, I would recommend keeping your last gen console. It's surprising how much you miss the last gen when you don't have it any more. But I guess it's up to you if you feel like you are done with last gen, then move on.

How do you play Morrowind on the PS3? I have seen two people mention it now. I thought Morrowind was for PC and Original Xbox and backwards compatible (sort of) on the 360. I am sure PS3 doesn't have Morrorwind.

I say like others, keep it. You will get $100 if you are lucky. I know I wouldn't pay more than $80 Canadian so that is what $50 or $60 American? So add in your games, you are not going to get a lot. Like someone mentioned, you may have an itch to play some of your PS3 games. PS4 is not backwards compatible. So once you sell your PS3, that is it unless you buy it again. Look on eBay and Kijji to see how much they are going for.

Also what PS4 games are a must for you to have right now? I don't know your situation, so I just say, wait and keep saving and have both. You are only $200 away, so wait the extra few months to save for it. Who knows, maybe some of the games you want will become cheaper when you buy it.

How about getting a used PS4 if you can't wait? Also keep looking for sales. I saw on IGN that there are great deals for Xbox Ones and PS4s if you go the way of Amazon or what not. So keep an eye out for them as well.

So keep what you have. Enjoy what you like right now and keep saving.

1. Absolutely not. 6th gen was still alive and kicking a few months before PS4 was released, but I'm only going on strictly the end date that Sony stopped supporting the PS2 (argubly the most successful console ever made).

2. Depends on a few factors: fat or slim model, size of HDD, periphirals, and what games (some are worthless now, some might worth something still if they're popular or collectors editions).

3. Lots of things. First off, if you ever feel you want to play any of the old games, and I do still and I've had a PS4 since December, you'll have it. Secondly, you'll need PS+ to play most online games on the PS4, and with it you get free games for PS4, PS3, and Vita. So you can easily get double the amount of playable free games every month by having a PS3. No need to even download them right away, just add them to your library when they are free and then download them later on. Lastly, online is still free on PS3 and on top that it is still an extra Blu-Ray player, Media player, and online streaming services player (and you don't need PS+ for any of those).

Yeh, lots of reasons to keep the PS3. I kept mine for the games and the fact it is a Blu-Ray player. You're not just potentially selling a game console, you're selling a media entertainment device that has Wifi capability.

And lastly, if you ever wanted to play some old games on PS3 and mod them, you can always jailbreak it.
