They might have to here, because of the necessity of joining a guild to trade (no auction house).

if gold sellers want to transfer gold between their characters(on different accounts) they can just do a trade 1 iron ore for 1 million gold...
the fact that we cant give our alts gold, hampers the real players more than gold sellers
lets say i have a few crafting alts, i would probably at some point want to transfer money to them, so that they can buy materials to craft with, and hopefully at some point i would want to transfer money from them(after successful sales), from my understanding this will have to be done through a third person which doesn't improve game play in any way shape or form!!
Not really. Gold Sellers will have their own guilds. If anything it will make it easier for them. Somebody buys gold online, they log into the game, receive an invite to the gold sellers guild, money transfers via the guild auction house, and then they're booted from the guild until the next time they make a transaction.
Yeah that did occur to me (setting up temporary invites to guilds in order to trade the gold). They'll probably do this then, so yeah STILL only hurts the legit player and doesn't do anything to curb goldfarming, if that's the stupid excuse they want to give for not letting us send gold to our own characters.
I'm going with the naive theory that they didn't think about it as an issue
I so hope for an extra long survey to fill out all that stuff next beta.
Just exploit any spare space they have in the survey form to do your rants. They need to hear this stuff (apparently). How they figured we'd be ok with all this I just don't get
Damn, I didn't try that in the beta. Not allowing us to send gold to a lower alt is a bit stupid of them.
OK, that's one viewpoint. I have to say that I completely disagree with you, moderator or not.
Pretty much EVERY other MMO allows you to do this. And anyway, if you have levelled a character to high level, surely sending some gold to a lower level alt gives them an advantage but not necessarily a huge advantage? After all, they still have to find/craft the gear they want to wear and actually, you know, 'level.'
It's not like you are giving them a magical "I win" button or sending them purples.
That's kinda always been the benefit to having higher level characters in an MMORPG, CCNA.
And in EQ2, you could put your coin in a shared bank slot so all toons can access it. In WoW, I have a personal guild bank I keep all my gold in. ETC.
I like to consolidate my funds and keep it out of the immediate reach of any given character. Having to go withdraw it helps me not spend it while saving for larger purchases.
And just spoke with the bf.
He was pretty certain he saw somewhere to deposit gold in the bank.
I didn't even find a banker much less check the bank system out so I have no idea.
No there definitely wasn't any way to drop gold into the bank (and you can't send mail to alts either).
yeah i tried all sorts of things during beta and couldnt deposit gold in the bank either.
Just relaying what he said.
Limiting gold to each character is kind of a stupid idea when you can put items in the bank to use between characters but eh.
I don't really plan on making alts anyhow but people will just have a friend or guildmate trade and then mail.
Mailing yourself items is probably not allowed more for "using the mail as storage" reasons than anything.
If any of you played the WoW AH, you know what I'm talking about.
Mail stuff to your alt and just let it sit there, uncollected, for storage. Need it? Log into that alt and hit return to sender. You can leave mail in the box for 30 days before it's deleted, and all you have to do is log over and send it back to the toon that sent it to refresh that timer.
Yeah item mail i can understand . But say if i want to send gold to an alt? I have to put an item with my main in the bank, have my alt withdraw it , find a guild or cyrodil keep where i can sell and pray it sells quickly. not to mention paying the listing and guild fees when i sell something .Sounds so cumbersome
I just like to consolidate my gold in one place.
Before I had the guild bank in WoW I used a banker alt that I never actually played. In EQ2 I use my shared bank. In WoW now I have a personal bank guild.
I might do the bank guild thing again actually. Is there a number of player minimum to keep it? Or can you just start one and boot everyone you don't want in there after? Because I can totally see myself making a three account guild for myself and two friends that might/will be playing it.
That could alleviate some of my problems.
I have not played a bunch of MMO's in my life (could never get past all the grinding that was needed) so if you veterans think this is OK, fine.
I personally never found money to be an issue in the beta as I always had what I needed by just playing the game. I was doing more in the game to level my character than amass gold and I never seemed to be lacking in funds from the loot and coin I was picking up. The only limitation I felt was the number of slots and not having a house to put my excess swag in until I needed to sell it, so I spent more time in front of merchants than I wanted. I did not explore the bank system because I knew my beta characters would be wiped so I saw no reason to bank for the future with them. And, because I am more a of a loot packrat than a coin packrat.
yay a moderator agrees with the lack of inventory space. I think being able to send gold to ur alts is a huuuuuuuuuge convenience which has become the norm in MMOs , to disable that feature is going to create a backlash , and right now there are a lot of things that are going to cause backlash at launch
We moderators are so because we are fans of the series, we want the games to be the best they can be just like anyone else. They just abduct us, I mean pick us, because we can discuss things without erupting and we have the abilities/demeanor to create an environment where others can express opinions too. We agree with some people, we disagree with others just like everyone else. We can criticize the game where needed and praise the game where they deserve it just like everyone else.
We just also have to keep the peace when people disagree, and by that I mean no flaming and trolling when debating. Flamers and Trolls get thrown out of the pool whether I agree with them or not.
One of the bonuses to sending gold to lower level characters was so that you COULD buy the inventory upgrades and mounts and bags and whatever you needed to alleviate storage constraints.
In WoW you start with a single 16 slot backpack. You have spaces for four other bags, but unless you're a death knight, those start empty(they start at a higher level due to lollore and lolmechanics). First thing I do for my alts? Buy bags for those slots, send over 50 gp so I can train professions, and go from there. Most all other gold outside paying for equipment repair comes out of their pockets until I need to train higher levels of riding skill(flying mounts). Repairs come out of the guild bank(I set it up so I can take money out of guild bank for repairs at a repair vendor.. all members of my guild can do this). Excess money that I accumulate gets deposited into my stash so I'm not spending it.
I have a bad habit of "oh hey, I have a few thousand gold... *looks at items for sale* That's shiny!". Keeping the gold off my played characters makes that easier to tame. >.> Being able to hand my alts storage and training skill money is useful.
Since there are no bags and you have to buy storage upgrades from the vendor... being able to mail my alt the gold would be easiest. Or at least let me put it in the bank....
Not planning alts, but it always ends up happening...
I just read that all your characters share the same bank.
yeah but you cannot deposit gold into that bank nor mail urself items or gold
You can send gold by mail, see no reason why you can not send to alt, I thought about it but did not remember alt name and was a bit afraid to switch because of queue.
Note that In ESO soulbound items can be used by alts.
If nothing else work put an junk item to an insane price in guild shop and let the rich main buy them.
This was an way to send money between horde and aliance alts in WOW, you used the neutral goblin action house.
Guild member had once put up some junk for 2000 gold and some other idiot bought it.
He did not find item, thought it was rejected or something and switched to alt who got an mail with 2000
How to share money with an alt: Guide
A Get 1 friend
B Send him money ( if you cant do this directly - buy his dead fish for 20k - COD works fine in TESO )
C Ask him to send to your alt
???
Profit!
It was possible in SWTOR and did make playing more fun ... at least for me. Would like to see it possible in this game.
Has you tried to mail gold to an alt? optionally done an pay on delivery mail with an junk item?
I will be very surprised if it don't work.
