So... Sentient Items...

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 5:38 am

In NV we had the stealthsuit that talked. Personally I liked the Idea, but hated the execution. She got annoying as hell, very fast, and I would have liked to have some alternative to having to listen to her. I would have liked the option to turn her off and I would have liked at least one other voiceover.

I freely admit its a guilty pleasure of mine to have these things in my RPGs and I do love them. Others hate them, to be sure.

So, would you like a return of a "Sentient"/"Talking" item, yes or no?

Sentient item requires voice actor.

Voice actor means budget and audio studio time allocated to it.

Which means less budget and audio studio time to allocate to more important things.

No thanks, I'm fine without talking items.

[edit]

Then again, at the end of the day I don't really care.

It irks me that budget and resources were squandered away but whatever.

I'll just avoid using the sentient item.

Cause I can barely stand the repeated lines of a companion.

I couldn't stand the talking suits in FO3 and OWB at all.

Almost 600 hours playing New Vegas and I don't recall a talking Stealth Suit. I do remember the Medic Armor from 3. Was it part of a DLC?

FO3 had the Prototype Medic Power armor. The only problem was that you needed to carry Med-X with you to hear everything it had to say. And that thing would turn you into a junkie pretty fast if you carried Med-X since it would auto-inject the stuff when your health dropped to a certain point.

Not against it but I never wore the armour itself as I didn't like how it looked.

However it would have to be....not annoying. If it was just "Med-x administered", you know, short and to the point I'd be fine with it. I don't want to be told combat has started and ended every single time in a cheery voice, or that I've donned/removed the item whatever it is.

If we get them back, I would love an on/off/burn switch

How about a psychotic Pip Boy instead? One that is always trying to find new and inventive ways to kill you.

as long as there willing to put in as much if not more work into them than they do your companions then I have no problem with it.

if they only put twice as much effort into it as they put into medic Armor then no.

Borderlands had some awesome talking weapons. Wouldn't mind some of those in game.

yes. provided that they were improved. I only experienced the medic power armor that talked in FO3 and really it only said a couple lines that got old fast and the auto medX application usually used MedX when i didn't want it too.

If done right, and with enough lines to keep it fresh, sure.

Or if they only talk on rare occations. I don't want my armor talking at me all the time.

a combination of the two would be great. makes me think of the game: poker night 2 where even though its such a small game and after 30+ hours i still occasionally hear lines that I had not heard before and in my experience did a great job in breaking up a limited number of dialog lines up with out getting to repeat consecutively (most of the time)

I found it to be an annoyance. I don't need my equipment to talk to me. The multiple voices in my head do just fine.
