Separating a Mesh in Blender

I was wondering if anyone could take me through, step by step, how to separate a Mesh in Blender, assuming it's possible? I have a Building Mesh from Vanilla Oblivion, and even though it is made from lots of pieces, the pieces themselves are grouped-- I'd like to split them in to individual pieces, if possible.

Go to Edit Mode, and start selecting vertices :D Once you have selected all the vertices which you want to separate from the others, you need to drag them away, and if there are parts that stretch (meaning that they are still connected to the "others") you need to delete their faces and edges (IIRC, it's X-key → Edges and Faces), and re-make them by selecting the vertices where they should be connected, and press F. It isn't as hard as it might seem.

OK, I appear to be in Edit mode, but can't select the verticies?

OK, two more questions, and then hopefully I'm all done and able to do this myself :D

1. How do I add Collision in? Hopefully it's nice and easy? Or can I edit collision the same way as the Meshes?

2. In the CS, when I load up my new Mesh (just a small spike-bit for now), the Mesh appears in one place, and the Bounding Box thing (the red/blue box when you click on something) appears elsewhere... why is this, and how can I fix it?

2. That could be the result of your mesh being somewhere else than in the center :D Using Nifskope's Transform → Edit -thingy you can probably correct that. Now you correct ME if I misunderstood or gave a non-working solution :D

EDIT: A little advice on Collision: You should use pre-made collisions from other meshes, as then you don't need to make them from scratch. If you can't find a collision model that fits your model, delete all but one or a few vertices from the pre-made collision model and start making a new one from there :D

I advice you to look at what sort of item it is(weapon,armour,creature) and paste your mesh in an existing one so that you dont need to create the things that you wont see ingame anyway :)

EDIT: btw some advice apart from what you asked :P

Maybe this is what you wanted:
edit mode --> select all vertices (A) --> P and select By material or Loose parts or something like it.

You can also use the "B" key with quicker time if you learn to master it. Hit "B" twice, the first time is for square selections, and the second press a circle opens up that you can change the size of the circle with the middle moust button. Just hold the left mouse key down while mousing over areas and it's like coloring. You can right mouse key click to reverse. Then what ever is activated in edit mode, press "P" to separate.

Creating new collision is easier and provides better results, the only time I'd copy and edit collision is with weapons since I am unsure of making new collision with those.

Making new collision is as easy as: Shift+D to duplicate your mesh, then go Scripts>Mesh>Hull>Convex, you can thend adjust from there if need be.

There is no need, if you know enough about blender you can select what you want to export and export directly into a new mesh, with the latest NifScripts it's easier to get the model setup the way you want.
