Seperate food from Potions/ingredients

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 4:06 pm

One thing I didn't like in oblivion was that bread, venison, boar meat, etc. were just more alchemy ingredients. I never bothered to do any more than grabbing all the plants in the wilderness and spamming potions, only taking the good ones and selling the rest. Considering how much harder it was to aquire those ingredients, they should have been more special.

I am just playing new vegas, and I like the way chems and foods are so different from each other, clearly defined. I don't want foods to be alchemical ingredients, I want them to be a seperate class of items that exclusively provide health and fortify effects, as well as reducing the hunger variable in hardcoe mode. Give me a reason to cook, Todd.

Most of the food did mundane things in alchemy, unless they were more rare. I personally dont have a problem with it. A skilled alchemist would be able to get something out of most anything.

This. 90% of the stuff you got in houses was Restore Fatigue and 3 other stupid effects. For useful things you had to go cave diving, exploring, even into Oblivion itself. That being said I would like a few things in Alchemy. I would like there to be a more diverse assortment of ingredients, even if some are vendor only. I would also like it to be harder to make any particular potion, but give us more useful potions. That way it is harder to level up Alchemy and it is more rewarding.

You can obtain sugar, alcohol, mold and other things from bread. I suppose this should be handful in alchemy.

Why cant they have similar ingrediants. I agree a lot of food should be useless for alchemy, but that still doesnt mean they cant be used.

Wasn't cooking mentioned as a craft, along the line of woodcutting? Or am I crazy? (No, seriously, I can't remember if that was just a rumor or not.)

If it is, then you'll probably get your wish, and cooking will probably be a bit like alchemy.

It's confirmed in the Podcast that cooking is a seperate craft from Alchemy but it is not a skill. (It think that means every character will be a perfect cook, they just have to learn recipes).

What I didn't like about it in Oblivion was "wortcraft". Every ingredient you ate leveled your alchemy skill a little bit. This prevented me from roleplaying a character who didn't touch alchemy or any magics because I couldn't also eat food without leveling that skill (that I picked as major to avoid leveling by the way). So I agree, food should be mundane and separate from alchemy.
