A Serial Killer's Signature

Post » Wed Sep 14, 2011 1:16 am

So, I have this character that I've been playing named Shara Selenus Black-Sun. She is a Khajiit Charmthief, a custom class I created that employs both stealth skills and illusion magic, as well as alchemy. Obviously, she is a thief and she - supposedly - charms people to better steal their things. However, she is also a psychopathic serial killer and I guess an assassin for the Dark Brotherhood. She can murder people just fine with a knife or sword but I am having difficulty trying to find a way for her murders to actually have a "signature" that psychotic serial killers often employ.

I have tried a multitude of ways to murder people, and leave "signs", but none seem to satisfy who she is. Ideally, I would like to murder people that involve illusion spells but I find that being an illusionist that can actually cause mayhem is very difficult, as some of the better illusion spells are at a fairly higher level than she is. I believe her Illusion skill is 53 but her command humanoid spell is totally crap. For some of the higher level spells, like a higher level command humanoid spell, she doesn't even have enough magicka.

Frenzy spells don't seem to work very well. Far more often than not, when I'm sneaking in people's bedrooms at night to murder them, they attack me instead of their sleeping partner, although if it's just one person it shouldn't work well anyway. Even then, nothing I do really works on sleeping people.

Right now, I've been leaving health potions in her victims hands after she murders someone. While humourous, and befitting of an alchemist, it just doesn't seem to satisfy her illusionist self. Can you help me? Any suggestions? o.o

EDIT: I've actually been thinking of making a new character anyway but I like the way she looks and I like the way she plays. I think, though, that a thief is too obvious for a serial killer. Not that thieves are necessarily serial killers but I'm sure they have more opportunity to be.

She could leave a Redwort Flower on the bodies of her victims (Redwort being an Invisibility potion ingredient). She could be known as the "Redwort Killer."

Hmmm ... well I have an assassin, or HAD I should say ... she would leave a bouquet of flowers at every scene. For her though, it was some weird form of regret.

Can your character make potions of Silence yet? That seems rather fitting. To me at least.

For command humanoid to be effective you really only need it to be active for a second or two.

You could have her leave some skooma, that's a mind altering drug right? Or you could leave a skull and a lockpick?

I like the Redwort idea.

I like the "Redwort Killer" idea too, thank you. I also like the bouquet of flowers idea but it doesn't necessarily suggest that she's a murdering illusionist. It probably works better for your character.

She can make silence potions, however, but the most common ingredients for that is rice and vampire dust and vampire dust is hard to come by unless I go searching in caves in the hopes that it's infested with vampires. The last murder that she did, she left a silence potion in one of the victim's hand and a health potion in the other. Signs of an alchemist killer but not an illusionist killer!

For the Redwort idea, I don't know if invisibility is really her thing. I suppose it is, because invisibility is an illusion spell and I do happen to have that spell, but I would like to leave a clue or sign that my victim was somehow under my enchantment. That they killed themselves but it was clearly a murder due to a sign that I left. I don't know if skooma would work for that.

Perhaps she could place a couple of gold coins in one hand, and a dagger in the other. The money would signify coercion, bribery, depending on what you're going for. And the dagger that would be grasped in the victims cold, dead hands would mark them having taken their own life. Together, it's very much like the victim had been 'paid' or 'persuaded' to kill him/herself?
As for the Alchemy/Illusion part-.. Um. Nightshade perhaps? Perhaps you could even by a certain book which you know you can get in bulk. Darkest Darkness perhaps?

I really like the idea that you've got going on here. You HAVE to keep us posted! :3

Hah, sure! I will definitely keep you posted. If I can figure out how to take screenshots, I'll link a picture of one of her murders if you're interested.

I like the concept of leaving money and more so for the dagger! However, a thief would never leave money behind, serial killer or no! :teehee:

A dagger, she can definitely do. Still, it is magical illusion coercion suicide/murder she is going for, not necessarily bribery, although I do understand your meaning. A nightshade flower would be a nice touch to leave on her dead victims but I think nightshade symbolizes poison and assassination more than anything else. I'll have to look into books, that's seems intriguing. I would have to find one appropriate enough to suggest that the murder had something to do with illusions!

Yes, leaving illusionist clues is tricky. I have thought about making a character named "Blackberry" who murders people at midnight and leaves a bunch of blackberries at the scene of the crime! She can be the "Blackberry Butcher". It's funny, and a lot easier to do than my other character, but I like the idea of an illusionist murderer more.

We'll see.

Screenshots are generally, prntscrn and then you have to go paste it in paint or something to save it, or if you use Steam you can hit f12 which will save the screenshot for you. If you play on console, cameras are always nice.

Oh, okay, so it's the same as other games. Thanks! I'll definitely link a screenshot once I find an interesting murder.

Why not just leave a scroll of Charm / Control Human / Frenzy?

You could leave the rare ingredient human heart, in their hand.
also there's notes of love-rejection almost everywhere, having the victim having such a "farewell-note" on him, and his "broken heart" in the hand... seems fitting:)
Top off with a chokebery or nightshade, for maximum effect.

This may seem like s stupid question, but how do you leave things in people's hands. On one of the Deadric quests you have to murder the heads of the family and then plant evidence that points to the other family. I haven't been able to do this yet.
