Serious error

Post » Sun Sep 13, 2009 1:51 pm

Ok so upon loading my mod that I've put MASSIVE work in, it says

Trying to load a bad form in TES3File::NextForm
File = Silvarga2.esp
Offset = 1578156

Continue running executable?

When I say yes it loads it but NOTHING made in the mod is there, as if the mod is not loaded at all. What to do? Please say there is hope, I don't have any backup files.... :sad:

Thanks in advance.

Try copying and renaming pukcab.bak to backup.esp and loading that.

The "bad form" indicates the file is corrupted. If Yacoby's suggestion does not work out, I have tools that may be able to recover whatever readable records are left in Silvarga2.esp, if you can upload it to sendspace or somewhere I can look at it.

I'm not sure I understand? renaming pukcab.bak in data files right? But renaming it to what? And what do you mean by backup.esp?

pukcab.bak should be a copy of the previous version of the plugin you last edited in the CS. You could try doing something like rename pukcab.bak to "backup.esp", load that in the CS and check to see if it is your plugin and if everything is there.

If it is good, then rename the backup to your plugin name and continue.

If it is not good, or if you edited some other plugin in the meantime so it is not a previous copy of the plugin you want, then let me know and I can see if some of my tools will recover anything useful out of your corrupted plugin.

What happened before it broke? Did your computer crash during a save or anything? Everything before that offset (roughly a megabyte in, if I counted right) should be recoverable, and depending on what happened, most of what comes after could be as well. That's if you can't get the backup.

Hm if I remember correctly everything was frozen for a couple of minutes this morning, and then it said something about resetting my graphic settings since it was not responding to something anymore, but that didn't even shut the cs down so I thought it's harmless. Could that be what messed it up?
I'll try out now the file renaming thingie (hahahe never knew what the file was for, backup spelled backwards, I love the guys from bethesda :P)

Hahah maaan how this scared me. It worked, and it saved everything except for the last 2 mist objects I placed hahah.

Thanks a lot guys, I owe you a big one!

One question, will another puckab.bak file generate itself automatically or should I remake one just for case?

I believe the CS makes one every time you edit a plugin. But it's always safest to make your own backups, lots of them and on different media :)
