Serious input/response time lag problem.

Post » Fri Jun 03, 2011 1:18 am

When playing Crysis 2, I've got an issue with response time (the time it takes between an input being made and the relevant frame being displayed) that makes the game almost unplayable. It's very much noticeable even to the human eye; I can see the difference in timing between moving my mouse and seeing the movement on screen.

My GPUs are two ATi Mobility Radeon 3870s in Crossfire. Driver version is an older release (9.something, I believe, because the newer ones cause problems on my system) however the crossfire/game profiles are up to date. Disabling Crossfire seems to alleviate the issue, but it's still there, still noticeable, and with Crossfire off the framerate is too choppy to be playable. Crysis 2 has the latest patch.

I've never seen an issue with response time in any other game. Is there any fix to the issue? (Or has anyone else got the same issue?)

So absolutely nobody has experienced this issue or knows a solution? Perhaps it's because everyone's spending all their time biching about Crytek?

I have the problem as well, and I'm using NVIDIA. Going back to patch 1.2 helped a little. I haven't fiddled with v-sync and reducing pre-rendered frames yet, but setting maximum pre-rendered frames to 0 might help.

For me it started after I installed win 7, I have tried a lot of stuff to make it better and it has, a little, but I suspect that it has something to do with ping, because most of the time I have it but sometimes it responds instantly.

And how does one exactly set maximum pre-rendered frames to 0?

Thanks for the response. How would I set the pre-rendered frames to 0 then? Might fiddle with v-sync and other settings too. It's annoying because I love this game but can't play it with so much input lag.

I'm running windows 7, maybe it's to do with that? And I doubt it's to do with online latency because I see exactly the same input lag offline, in single player, and it's consistent...

Disabling vsync can fix input lag sometimes. You'll also want to disable mouse smoothing.

Yup. Don't tell me they're causing the problem, because if they are, that's frigging rediculous on Crytek's part. Do they know how many people use G35 headphones? (Or for that matter, Razer Megalodons)

I'll try disabling vsync and mouse smoothing, see if it makes a difference.

Well, I discovered that when I turned on 2 channels instead of 8 then the lag pretty much disappeared xD hope it helps. Didn't have this problem on win xp but on win 7 there is massive lag when I try to use surround sound.

Okay...so it appears I can start it up on 2 channel and then switch to 8 channel and it's much less laggy. BUT, it's still definitely there...at least now it's just a niggling annoyance rather than an unplayable piece of ****.

Anyway, thanks for the help.
