Serious Mod help. Not sure if I should reinstall Oblivion.

Post » Thu Aug 19, 2010 8:46 pm

Im in a real hole right now. I recently installed a mod that pretty much messed up my entire oblivion game. I'm thinking of reinstalling oblivion and the mods that I knew were compatible with each other. I try t9 follow the readme's and directions with the mods so I dont know what the #%! is going on at the moment. I need your help.

This is the problem:

After recently installing a mod (not sure which one caused the problem) Oblivion would crash upon starting. I use OBMM to start my games so I AM using OBSE to start. I then deactivated all my recent mods I've installed and tried booting Oblivion again but the same thing happened. I then uninstalled ALL mods, booted oblivion and it worked fine. OBMM tells me they are all compatible with each other yet one of them are still not working. I have also been using BOSS to sort load order but still no improvement. Should I scrap everything and start fresh or should I continue to try to find this mod?
Here is the list of mods I use AND recent ones. Recent means in the past week.

Actors in Charge
Adonnays Elven weaponry
Alchemist Cave
All Natural (Recent Mod, I deactivated Natural Enviroment)
Arcane Bank of Cyrodile
Assasins Creed Altair Gear

Black Market
Black Ranger Cuirass
Blackpowder Bomb (recent)
Border Removal
Capes and Cloaks

Dwemer Skyship
Eeks poisening and skoooma refining
Elven Map Redux
Fatality Cam

Wouldn't be if you used Wrye Bash to generate a load order list.

Bjornheim is buggy.
Dwemer Skyship is buggy if you have an old version.

Border Removal - Drop this as it causes compatibility issues.

Bjornheim has several critical issues and shoudl probably not be used.

If you're not using Wrye Bash, there's a good chance OBMM did something lame and activated the indoor weather filter that comes with All Natural. You need to go back and read the readme for that and follow what it says to do, or things will continue to act broken.

The fact that your game starts with no mods active means you don't need to reinstall the game. Such action is rarely necessary unless the game files themselves have become corrupted.

I could do without Bjornheim since I dont go there often anyways. Should I learn to use Wyre Bash like OBMM?

All Natural - Indoor Weather Filter For Mods.esp

Arthmoor was correct. This will definitely cause your game to crash if you are not using a Bashed Patch.

It's a good idea, yes. At the very least for the building of a Bashed Patch. Which is relatively simple.
Although then learning to install mods through Bash as well wouldn't go amiss either: It is notably better at doing so in terms of compatibility and for ease of removal etc. A powerful tool really.

You might want to use http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1111761-boss-better-oblivion-sorting-software/ to sort your load order as well ;)

Are Bash Patches basically like OMODS in OBMM?

No, not at all :)

A Bashed Bash basically merges all conflicting records from different mods and Basic Oblivion itself too, allowing them to work together nicely. If you have many mods that make changes to leveld lists, it is pretty much mandatory to have a bashed patch to make them all work together.

it could also be your ini file if you have changed it in a while, just delete it and when you start oblivion again oblivion will make a new one for you

Wow, I think yours is the first load-order I've seen that shares absolutely nothing in common with mine! Nothing wrong with that. Just means I can't offer any insights. Regardless of our tastes being obviously different, you should add the UnofficialOblivionPatch and its latest supplement to your arsenal. Those are pretty much standards and fix a host of vanilla issues.

As a recent convert, I too say switch to Bain (Wrye-Bash) mod installation if possible. It has a steeper learning curve, and for some things OBMM remains better, but is worth the hassle. A properly set up Bain package offers more flexibility than its OMOD counterpart, unless you are good at scripting. (I'm not.) Wrye Bash handles conflict detection and resolution far better than OBMM.

At minimum, you should install Wrye Bash for the Patch, which will work with an OMOD-based installion.

Does this sound right on my to do list?

-Create a Bash Patch for All Natural - Indoor Weather Filter For Mods.esp
-Delete Bjornheim and Border Removal
-Download unofficial oblivion patch

You have installed too many esp from the same mod. eg.
[GFX]_Initial_Glow-all.esp
[GFX]_Initial_Glow-creatures.esp
[GFX]_Initial_Glow-self.esp

You can only use [GFX]_Initial_Glow-all.esp OR [GFX]_Initial_Glow-self.esp. [GFX]_Initial_Glow-creatures.esp is optional and can be used with any of the other two. This is explained in the readme.

I also suspect (don't use these so I'm not 100%) that these should not be used together.
Regrowing Nirnroot - Dissappear Reappear.esp
Regrowing Nirnroot - Normal Plant.esp

_Ren_BeautyPack_onlyhairs.esp
_Ren_BeautyPack_full.esp

Assassins Creed - Altair's Gear.esp
Assassins Creed - Altair's Gear- HeavyArmor.esp
Assassins Creed - Altair's Gear - ThrowingKnives.esp
Assassins Creed - Altair's Gear - HeavyArmor+ThrowingKnives.esp

Actually the Bashed patch is a special file, into which you can merge a lot of things from all your mods, as well as add some pretty neat game tweaks.) With it you can (and in this case MUST) merge that file and deactivate it. making the game run much better, and in some cases; run at all!

So technically uou create it for your entire load order, not just one file/mod.

-Download unofficial oblivion patch

Yes. And don't forget Arthmoor's supplemental to it as well.

With Wyre Bash repost your load order as well. Because there are some odd things in your load order as well.
You have:
SM_ShiveringIsles.esp
Knights Vwalk.esp

But where is DLCShiveringIsles.esp and Knights.esp?
The problem might be the list you gave, not your actual load order, because you don't have Oblivion.esm there either, which IS the base of the game itself!
