Serious question- why cant Bethesda do it right?

Post » Thu Nov 26, 2015 11:54 am

Their financial success and reviews both critically and from consumers seem to suggest they've done way more than "get it right."

It seems they've conquered the mountain. Made a better series than what most companies are able to put out, including their predecessors with this exact franchise,

Never, ever judge a game by its trailer.

Score a victory here. I'm not opposed to change, but having a familiar relationship with a game is important to me. I'm not a fan of games that change everything from its predecessor.
I can hope FO4 is a blend of 3 and NV, and maybe a little extra, but even if it's not, I'm still there.

I never thought it was bad in FO3 or FONV. Melee... in Skyrim? Huh.

Ditto. If there's one thing I despise about the TES and FO games, it's the buggy "I think I'll go ahead and freeze here" game engine.
Fingers crossed and hoping for the best!

Come on people, stop saying that its like Fallout 3 graphically, its not! It might not be shiny like some other recent games, but saying its like Fallout 3, you over-exaggerate, and lose any credibility in your account by doing so.

Have you forgotten how Fallout 3 looked ? Do some google search and find out.

if you really think it will change much from what you saw , then you are wrong. Usually the game ends up looking worse than the reveal trailer- this will look equal to it because i believe them when they said its in-game.

Ad-populum is never a good argument to put forth, as going by that same logic CoD is the best game in existence, and feces should be the number 1 food since flies vastly outnumber humans, and they all enjoy eating that.

The animations have always been one of the biggest complaints about Bethseda games, and I Was REALLY hoping they would have ditched the old system and got a compeltely new animation system and used mocap or whatever it takes to have actual fluid animations.

However the trailer it seems isn't the case, looks like they are sticking with the old style robotic and stiff animations from Fallout 3/Skyrim. It just looks so janky.

Didn't they say they bought a mocap studio some years ago? Why on earth do they not use it if that's the case?

Bethseda is one of the only AAA studios that seems to not want to do good animation and it really pulls people out of the games, especially when people are getting used to games like Uncharted/AC/Batman and others with good fluid animation.

i agree, its like gotham city in the old batman cartoons. Oldschool style with some future sprinkled it

not a problem at ALL because its an alternate universe thats heavily dependent on nuclear tech

I disagree man, fallout 3 was a jaggy mess on consoles , true. But on a PC with high res- it looked smooth. Fallout 4 just upped the texture quality a little bit (as it should) . Thats the only difference i see. The color palet seems to have gotten brighter and more diverse too , but i havent seen enough to truly judge that part.

Its not like going from Dark Souls to Bloodborne , where its the same basic mechanics but a huge change in graphical quality

Bethesda used motion capture for Skyrim. There's footage of it in their "making of Skyrim" video on youtube. Skyrim's animations were a huge jump forward; and we don't see enough actual character animations in the trailer to judge.

The problem i guess , is that they arent using it right? lol

I mean the characters NEVER , in ANY OF THE BETHESDA games - look like they interact with the environment. I dont mean getting stuck in random corners and stuff, i mean running on flat ground looks like running up hill, which looks like running down hill .

It doesnt do the talent this team has any justice

that was just one example btw- third person mode looks terrible in motion, etc.

While I agree with you here in general. Fortunately, historically, Fallout games have been better than their trailers.

Also, I fail to see how one can comment on the game play without actually playing it.... and trying to judge the game play based on a video trailer... what?
Assumptions on how something drives based on pictures...? There's a large lack of logic here...

Nope. It only goes against what the 'Fallout 3 is sooooooooooo bad compared to 1/2'- fraction thinks.

The other ~ 80% acknowledge Fallout 3 for what it is: One of the greatest games of all time.

is that a joke man? do you really think a game using the same engine and mechanics is going to play mechanically different than what we , as fans, have been playing for the last 10 years?

Has any bethasda game made that huge leap? Call it an educated guess, not an assumption .

youre wrong on so many levels. I love fallout 3. But i love fallout 1+2 more BECAUSE THEY INTRODUCED ME TO APOCALYPSE GAMES. thats never going to change. The story, as most agree, was better in fallout 1+2 as well. You either dont know what youre talking about or fallout 3 was your first game in the series before you played the old ones.

As a fan, I couldn't care less what the 80% think of the game. I'm one of those guys who likes to have his own opinions about things.

he doesnt know what he is talking about. Dont worry

Also- if i wanted to be picky id complain about the dog fur looking like N64 graphics. I just want to know why the animations continues to be so bad.

This fallout 3 vs Fallout 1+2 discussion isnt even worth it

Yeah, I edited my post (there was no insult in it) cause I realised it's a waste of a time to discuss over stuff like that... Can't believe I'm arguing over Fallout 1/2 after Fallout 4 was released... Ugh...

to answer the ops question, bethesda is incompetent and is only as successful as they are because nobody else makes open world rpgs with character creation and modding tools.

100% this, only source of their success is their open worlds where you can hike. Funny thing is even that wasn't well done in fallout3.
