Serious question- why cant Bethesda do it right?

Post » Thu Nov 26, 2015 1:03 pm

Let me preface by saying i love Fallout and have played since the first game- i will buy Fallout 4 for sure but i just dont understand a couple things-

1- Why is it that animations are terrible (a little exaggeration but still....) . This is an issue with every Bethesda game from Morrowin to Fallout NV. Why cant they make it look more natural ? I know it takes work but they usually spend a lot of time making these games. To be honest guys- Fallout 4 looks like Fallout NV on PC with crisp textures and a brighter color pallet- i expect a little more in the graphics department but i understand its a huge game so it doesnt really bother me much BUT the animations are just as bad as ever. WHY ?

2- A lot of things just look like they were copy and pasted straight from the last few games- obviously its because its in the same Fallout Universe - but it looks kinda cheap :/

3- Melee combat will continue to svck like in Skyrim- i reached this conclusion because of the animations and other parts are the game havent really changed much so why would combat? At least we have VATS and guns in the fallout games, otherwise it would be a mess like the Elder Scroll series - also- i would like to note that the gun combat also svcks when not using VAT lol

With all that being said - i know most of us love fallout because of the story and the lore- and we will buy this game regardless...... but i will have to be honest and admit i was a little underwhelmed by what we saw in the trailer. I know its not completely done yet - but i dont see any of the issues from all the previous games getting resolved.

I just hope its not a buggy mess too when it releases

I thought Skyrim's animations were better than Oblivion's, in basically the same engine so I think they can improve.

Because bethesda refuses to make or use a new engine and still use that rotting gamebryo (regardless of any name change) engine that needs just to die. It is embarrassing at this point. The trailer pretty much was meh honestly, which is NOT what you want the reaction to be on a reveal trailer.

Again, they iterate and improve on their engine just like any other engine. How is NetImmerse becoming Gamebryo becoming Creation any different than Unreal Engine 2, 3, and 4?

Its been Gamebryo engine since morrowind....

NetImmerse was the old name for Gamebryo. The creation kit is the mod editor for Skyrim.. Not an engine.

Bethesda don't make Gamebryo.

i dont understand the technical stuff you guys know- all im going off of is what my eyes tell me. And my eyes tell me that the animations are pretty bad as usual. I was just expecting something next gen i guess

I WILL BUY this game. I LOVE FALLOUT

i know its early but i hope Fallout 5 will be in California (bay area and Los angeles) =) - and i hope they improve it and make it truly next gen

I guess what i was asking was - why dont they fix it ? Especially since they have been getting knocked on combat and animation since their first open world game. Is it not worth it to them? does story and dialogue take priority

ok i understand that but if they have been using this engine for so long why cant they improve it? why is it still buggy?

Im probably going to get this game on my PS4 so ill have to contend with more issues than PC u think?

I just really dont understand why these complaints that have lingered since their first game cant be resolved? It doesnt make sense lol

When I watched the trailer this morning, I was appalled, to me, again, this is my opinion, all I could think about is that this game is just Fallout 3 in a different setting, with minor if any visual upgrades, there wasn't nearly any npcs on the screen, I still have faith that this is a pre alpha trailer. For the love of god please let it be.

Appalled is a little strong a term =) but i completely understand where youre coming from- i was underwhelmed as well

The thing is - the lore and story are always so amazing in Fallout that you can forgive the issues - but this is a next gen game - and its getting a little ridiculous it still has the same problems that Fallout 3 had all those years ago

i will be appalled if it releases as a buggy mess.......... =( omg that would svck

Skyrim was Bethesda's most stable launch to date. That's not saying much, because Bethesda, but still. They've been getting better each time.

And look up a list of games running on Gamebryo. It's not so much the engine that's buggy as it is, oh hey, Bethesda.

The reason I say appalled is because this looks like it should've been an expansion pack, I love the Fallout series, but they're going to say it's a brand new game, and charge $60 when it's the same tech as the last three games they've made. This is not a next gen title, unless they grossly under demonstrated the reveal trailer. I saw nothing the separates it from its counterparts.
It feels like they're just trying to get money.

I agree with Skyrim being stable for the most part. But New Vegas! That was a game I hate to love, and love to hate. Buggy as hell. It was playable to me after a few patches came out.

It'd help if Obsidian was actually given some time. :P

And for the record, the PS4's new architecture means Bethesda games will almost definitely not have the same issues they had for the PS3.

I agree, they clearly haven't updated their engine, they clearly have scrapped the Skyrim engine and went back to using the Fallout 3 engine. i agree with your other point aswell... it looks too much like Fallout, i was expecting at least some Mass Effect or Titanfall stuff in the trailer.

Appalling, absolutely appalling.
