Seriously Bethesda?

I, like many others, waited for the December release of this. I saw this at E3, and was overly impressed with it. The controls, the graphics, the immersion into the game. New obstacles, new ways of evading the enemy. This game had it all..........HAD. Well Brink gets pushed back and release date was for the 17th. Then it got pushed forward until the 10th. FINALLY we get Brink....What a disappointment.

OKAY, the story is kinda cool. I say kinda, due to the fact of the shortness of it. The mechanics are REALLY awesome, in the sense that: if you fail the first mission, you still get a second chance to recover and have an alternate go at it. Cool concept! The team work is just as good too! Wait................it was on the first day..................let me explain......

On the release day of Brink, most of us were playing with many other PLAYERS and not so much AI controlled ones. Am I GLAD I spent the entire day to beat both story lines with PEOPLE. A day later, hardly anyone is ever in a group with me. So I give it a go with AI's.................WOW....................EPIC FAIL! Okay maybe I failed the first escort mission because it was on Hard, lets try medium then..............EPIC FAIL!..............Wow am I that bad of a player? I was scoring in the top of my team games with people, now I cant even shoot a bullet without dying.......Okay FINE! EASY MODE IT IS!!!!! I feel like a noob but for SURE I'm gonna do this escort!............... EPIC FAIL!!!!!!!

WTH

Even is easy mode? I svck that bad? Wait! Wait! Wait! Maybe my team svcks............ Let me look at whats going on. Okay! I see a medic, he stands on me, does not heal me, or revive me. Wait? Okay MAYBE hes out of supplies. Nope! He just ran across the way to heal someone else. Okay! MEDIC AI FAIL!

Maybe its the Big Bad Army Dude with the Big Bad Gun Shooting at people!!!!! Wait.....................Hes dead now. There was one AI opponent in front of us, and 3 of us around him (Including me dead on the ground), and he killed both the medic and the Big Bad Army Dude.......not only that, he runs over to me and kills me for good so I cannot be revived. Okay ARMY DUDE FAILED!!!! (Yeah I know he has a class but i am getting to the point here)

Maybe its the engineer!!!! Okay!!!!! It has to be him!!!! You go and run into that hall, put a turret down with 5 on coming opponents!!!!! Wait your dead now too!!!!!! Engineer FAIL!!!!!

Maybe it's Mr. "I Wear Costumes!"...........wait...........hes not in my group at the moment............

Maybe it's the other team? Maybe they are JUST BETTER PLAYERS...........I Mean AI controlled Players?

Wait, their engineer just placed a turret in a smart location! At a choke point! How come my engineer does not?

Their Medic is reviving that mound of bodies, while none of my team kills him? Their MEDIC actually plays like a MEDIC and also kills my team as if hes a one man army!?!?!?! All mine does is run around like a headless chicken.

I see a big bad Gun Wielding Army Dude that just wiped out my team. Okay were coming back to get you!......................Clack Clack Clack........................Team Dead again?????

Okay my turn! Ill take them out, Ill behind objects and take them down!.................Wow.............From across the map, I was taken out with 3 shots..........Let me try that, with a red dot! Just emptied half a clip into the guy before he died......

In other words, the AI for Opponents is SEVERELY Over powered! I mean every single map, they know where you are, they know where your coming out of, they know what route your team is taking to them. They will turn around and shoot twice and kill you instantly. This is on EASY! Escort the Bot? NO WAY! The enemy rushes to the start point and take you down one by one. There is just no middle to the AI. Your team does nothing. They are not nearly as accurate. When you see your score 4 or 5 times higher then your team AI controlled players, you know there is a severely broken mechanic in your AI. The player is forced to be a one man army. You are forced to do every single objective alone. Your team does not rush like the enemy AI, they do not slide, and shoot from across the map to kill an opponent in 2 hits. I cannot even imagine what would happen on hard!...........

So I tried..........escorting isn't even possible.............

Sadly, all the hype an excitement for the game was gone once we are forced to play with the AI. There are not many people online playing. I never get into groups anymore and I have an open invite. I am always playing with the AI, and there is no fun factor. It would be fun if the teams were balanced. This never happens, your always with a team of headless butt scratching monkeys, while your playing against a team of well trained military men. I can see why this is becoming an issue. If it was not an issue, then you would not see so many post complaining about the enemy AI!

So what does Bethesda fix? Lag....................

I never have that problem...............wait I never see anyone playing...............wait............lots of people stopped playing because the balance is way off!

The challenges? Well most were simple, then again, the objective one was just insane. Your teams is suppose to draw fire AWAY from you, but when the enemy AI is set to rush every point you need, and your team does nothing but die, its kinda hard to do anything there..................

Work on whats broken, the AI, then fix other issues. Whats the purpose of fixing lag if people are slowly leaving the game for the game mechanic issues?

Really disappointed..............I hope this gets fixed soon, or it might actually turn into the first game I have ever sold back to GameStop............

Sadly, they actually already have a handful of Brink as used.........should tell you something.......What was once promising needs to be fixed or others will follow....

PC version just got an update that basically put ally bot AI on par with enemy bot AI. Only now I just breezed through a Smash and Grab on hard.

Not like I haven't had a fluke of that sort in the past before though. They did get caught up on the first objective for a while.

this is pretty bad at moment, its looks nice but its getting to boring being knocked down every 2secs trying to play on normal.

to prove how bad this is, i just failed the 2nd mission for the 2nd time just trying to get the safe with the ai just standing around shooting guns looking pretty but not doing anything.

I bought the game on release day and i'm sooooooo sick of the friendly AI that i gave up on the game after 2 days, wth is the point in playing a game when your team can't even win a match on EASY?
Stupid AI (they don't deserve the I for intelligence), i wish you would just Not die.
Not returning the game! because maybe in a year or two when ALL the kinks are fixed i'll play again. See you then!

So since I mainly due solo at the moment I've been doing a lot of defense missions as they are the only ones that are remotely possible as you get higher in the ranks.... well even they're getting ridiculous now. Did "Attack on CCity", wana know what one of my medics was doing... he was running circles around a badly placed friendly turret that wasn't anywhere near the main gate! Needless to say i loled then exited to main menu.

The A.I just has to prioritize main objectives over building/blowing up barricades every two minutes. How are you supposed to win a main objective against a full enemy AI team whilst your AI team is off picking flowers in a field nearby?

is the idea to keep playing level 1 untill you have every unlock before moving on to mission 2, ive just failed again trying to get the disc to the console because of shocking ai and being knocked down by a guy ive put a full clip into. if its this bad on single player i hate to think what mp is going to be like,

i try not to complain about most games but this is quite frankly geting very annoying if the idea was to make short levels but make them so they are pain in rear to complete its worked.

Pro Tip: Use your command wheel often, The ai does a much better job when they know what objectives
you are going for. This game is not a run and gun CoD clone. Stop playing it like that

Alright, so I bought Brink for PS3 two days ago, and I have to agree with the creator of this thread, the AI is just...Off, Of course I'm completely alone in playing since the network is down, so everything I do has been previously described problems since day one. But the one places I really can't handle on my own, are the objective challenge level 2 and up, level 3 of the escort challenge, tower defense level 2 and up, and the second level of the security half of the campaign so far. Granted I did have to retry a couple of the Rebel missions before I beat them, but I eventually did. But for those places I cant get past, I'm basically just doing what I can in the levels and such that I know I can, to gain experience and level up to unlock more abilities and try to buy the ones that will let me just barely get through these levels, and I'm playing the entire game on normal mode by the way.

I know if they are going to patch or do something about the AI I won't know about it in-game until the network comes back up, but that's just another reason for me to have joined these forums.

I'm on PS3 and I had some issues with the AI.

I still do, but nowhere near as badly.

My solution? Turn it up to hard. Seriously, strange, but it works.

The enemy AI gets even better, but the skill and intelligence gap between friends and enemies is MUCH smaller on Hard, for PS3 at least.

Thanks for the tip, I'll give it a shot tomorrow probably.

Something else I was curious about when I was looking through the abilities, was like, why didn't I see the Operatives or the Medics with available defensive upgrades? Like the Engineers and Soldiers get some form of Kevlar, but neither the Medic or the Operative do, to me it just makes it harder, which may be what they're going for, I dunno. But lvl 2 of the Objective challenge? I can't get past the hacking part thanks to how fragile Operatives seem, not to mention the previously discussed AI issues.

AI might be a little dumb, but I do better by myself then I do with teammates. I am a one man army, and it's easy to out trick AI bots. Even with their annoying perfect aim. I have no problems most of the time with beating a mission, though.. medics do stand around me like idiots..

The only problem I seem to have with this game.. is the lack of content, and lag issues in versus, in SOME lobbies. I tend to leave if I see lag, and the next one I join has none.

Two things for the Be More Objective challenge.

1. Enemy AI scales based on your level. Complete it with a freshly made lvl 1 character instead.
2. Try with a different body type. I couldn't beat it until I switched to Heavy - some people find it impossible as anything but a Light. It doesn't seem consistent with how you play the rest of the game either - I'm normally awesome as a Light body, but not good with Heavies.

On the defensive upgrades - they don't need them. Medics start with the ability to give themselves free health, and Operatives can become the enemy to hide. Use those abilities properly and you won't feel like you're missing out. if anything, the others are unfortunate that they have to buy their defenses.

So back again for round 2!

I figured I would take a step back and see if there was an update. Loaded Brink, sat back, UPDATE! YES!

................................
........
.

Start game, DUH DUH DUHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Im shot, medic come revive!

And the 3 stooges are at it again........the AI is still lacking sadly. Lvl 15 and and I am getting shot from across the map. I mean I think I saw a spec move, then I was dead. Got my trusty little Medic doing what he does best, chasing roaches!

Yeah I agree with most of the posters, not to return the game just yet. It was a rush to judgement, so I will keep it in hopes that the AI gets revamped. I tried putting it on hard, no go. Escort was not possible, for me at least. I ENJOY the game with other, but when stuck with bots 99% of the time, it svcks. The AI is still acting like the Three Stooges. On the bright side, I am sure the Enemy Ai is loving the kills they are getting off me. :D

Still waiting for suggestions. Maybe something along the most OP Gun (Carb from what I gather) and combination. I don't run and gun. I never get a chance to run at that. Its more like walk and die. I miss being lvl 1!

Oh, my God I spent hours today in a blind rage because of this challenge. Yes, I rerolled a level 1 character. I can fix the generator with 8 and a half minutes left, but I'll be damned. My teammates take the same direct route to the hackbox and die, they take forever to revive me and when they finally are on the way they'll try to go directly through the enemy. I gave up on medics and just respawn now. The hackbox is right next to their spawn, there's no spawn timer, and if I do get the hackbox on, NOBODY defends me OR the hackbox. Then, of course, it takes something like three seconds to kill the hackbox from 85%. I gave up on using disguises, they shoot at me anyway. Why can't I bring out my PDA without standing directly in front of the hackbox if it's installed in the first place? I also have seen an enemy pop out of thin air between me and the command post more times than I care to remember. If Chen tells me to check my objectives because there's new objectives or that lady tells me I'm running out of time again I'm going to go ballistic. No, Chen, there aren't new objectives. I've been trying to do the same objective this whole time, BY MYSELF. Lady, if I'm running out of time you're running out of relevant things to say. Tell me something I don't know :banghead: :brokencomputer:

I got Brink on release for my PC and have been loving it...

...I'd look at threads like this one and chuckle - I'm not having problems like the console gamers...

...BUT SUDDENLY in the past few days, the AI is acting exactly like the OP described - enemy aimbotting you to death and allies not comprehending objectives despite my constant use of objective wheel. I can progress quite well as a soldier, but operative hacking boxes gets zero support. I ended up playing security campaign online to complete "smash & grab" on the Terminal map because no matter what I tried in single-player, I'd get shot before upload complete - then it's back to square one - data key miraculously returned to safe... the A.I. allies give feel of supporting team until the action starts, then they miraculously evaporate.

Don't get me wrong, I'm fully aware how complex A.I. programming can be... SD indicated that friendly AI currently has abilities capped (presumably to prevent game being too easy to play by letting friendly A.I. do all the work)

So it's either a case that the ability cap needs to be relaxed or removed completely. Ideally I'd like to have a tick-box so that you could choose between normal (revised cap level) or elite (uncapped) friendly A.I. - Easy/Normal/Hard theoretically does the same for enemy A.I. although it should really be listed as Hard/Elite/Superhuman.

Despite saying all that, I still love the game, but if there's a possibility of making it better, then I'm all for it.

Just yesterday I got more XP than the top 3 bots in my team COMBINED. I have been spawncamped by the enemy AI numerous times because I can't hold off an entire team of aim-botting enemies who can sustain ARs/SMGs on full-auto at mid-range with pinpoint accuracy...whilst my allies have trouble shooting an enemy that walks right past them, and have the overwhelming urge to just charge into ambushes and stand out in the open.

SPLASH DAMAGE, I SHOULD NOT BE CARRYING THE TEAM ON EASY MODE, IT NEEDS BALANCING. Here's to hoping...

I agree that the friendly AI stands for Artificial Idiocy. Last time four of my teammates were taking over/ defending a supply command post whereas I rushed into a kamikaze attempt to accomplish the main mission...
Anyway, I can confirm that on Hard modus the AI between teams is more balanced. it's also easier to accomplish challenges on lower ranks.
i think it would be a nice feature, if i could assign my AI teammates to certain objectives, like 'protect me' or 'just one of you takes over the command post'.
yes, the idea of being a sort of squad leader is quite charming (i wonder, if this could work for MP as well?)

I honestly don't understand these complaints. My Medic-Bots usually revive me ASAP with hardly any waiting. There are always turrets and mines in smart places and choke points. Sure, the AI isn't perfect but if you ask me it's the enemy AI that's worst, they tend to just walk right by me and let me shoot them in the back.

I play BRINK on a PS3 console and i understand all the problems peeps are having with completing missions in BRINK. It is difficult thats for sure, which is a refreshing change as far as i'm concerned. Most first person shooter games have been a walk in the park for me to complete which leaves me feeling quite empty and without a sense of accomplishment. Admittedly it can be frustrating when the friendly AI's dont appear to be doing there job properly, but i've found with patience the friendly AI's can be very usefull if you stick with them and give heaps of buff and use the objective wheel regularly to keep the friendly's up to date and on track for the mission. Hell, at times i have not even had to complete the main objective myself, one of the friendly AI's do the job for me.

Gaining the initiative is half the battle. Even though there is a time limit to complete the mission, patience is required. Theres no sense charging in and getting all shot to hell, because this only gives the initiative to the opposing side. Instead you need to buff your team mates and have cover to be able to return fire when needed. Capture command posts and before long you and your team has killed all the enemy and thus initiative has been gained which allows you to push forward to complete the mission, and then do it all over again once the enemy has respawned. Kill all enemy AI medics with extreme prejudice.

I started BRINK with a medium soldier, but then upgraded him to a heavy when that feature was unlocked. I completed all challenges first, then completed the security campain first time through. Then completed the resistance campain with the same soldier. Once he got to a level 20 with all abilities/ weapons/ attatchments unlocked, i went and started a new character and he is a medium medic at level 17. I also have a level 16 heavy engineer that i started as resistance and a level 10 medium operative for the security.

My 8 year old son is actually better at this game than me. He seems to understand the importance of movement more than shoot and has no problem completing missions in the required time even at the higher levels and rank.

EDIT - My 6 yo daughter is kicking ass in her first campaign now as well!!

Well, i'm on PC and i got the fix... it helped, alot. The friendlies still seem unable to competently complete objectives, but its better. They need to add a sub routine where WHEN SOME ONE IS DOING THE OBJECTIVE, THEY DEFEND THAT PERSON WITH EVERYTHING THEY GOT. It could be a simple script saying that if theyre close to the guy and the objective is his main goal (and he's actually going to do the objective) buff him up and maybe have a couple guys stick near. You know, actual team work.

Even if its an NPC, the AI should know to protect them. When i'm hacking a safe or door, they should go "hey, no one else is defending him, i will" and come by, maybe hit you with a hp boost, or some Kevlar armor, and then scan around for threats.

Next, if an AI is doing their job, they should KEEP ON DOING IT... I cant count the number of times the engineer ran up to a safe, got 80% through it, stopped, shot some people, died, came back, got it to 95%, got shot, and ran off to get gunned down like a moron... Of course we lost that because i refused to switch classes... Of course, because I didnt do the objective...

Worse is hacking. This is something that needs to be done, and done RIGHT THEN AND THERE. Any hesitance, any delay or pause and it could cost you the entire hack, and usually does...

Also, i'm fairly sure that at some point, the enemy AI starts cheating. Either Accuracy hacks, damage hacks, hp hacks or all of the above. At some point they just stop dieing and start 2 shotting heavies...

Well, I agree with the AI problems, but in a less sarcastic manner. ;)

I'm achievement hunting on the 360 at the moment, and I've got every single one, apart from the campaign on hard. I completed it once through (on both sides) on hard (which was tough enough with the AI), or so I thought, it turns out I missed a mission or something, and because it doesn't tell you what missions you've completed on which difficulty, I'm going through the entire game again on another character, and the more I play, the more I notice problems with the AI.

Some matches, I'll be lucky, and my team will stick together, storm through enemy defenses, and complete each objective in a minute or two.

Most matches, I'm not that lucky.

I've found that it'll be me, and maybe bot or two, going for a main objective (I've especially noticed this while having to attack objectives, rather than defend**), and the entire enemy team will be set up in the objective room in defensive positions, with well placed mines and turrets. The rest of my team will be going after command posts (or, say they are, even though I've made sure to take every post while the enemies are holed up), and will just run between command posts trying to defend them.

At first, I just wanted to get through the game, so I played it again, and again, and again, just to get past these AI problems and complete the story, but now, the AI seem so uncoordinated, and half the time, I get a little infuriated with it.

**I've found that having to defend objectives, the AI is fine, and does a really good job, which is most likely the problem with trying to attack, as the AI knows how to defend better than attack.
