I seriously hope we finally get a PC-style UI back.

I tend lean to console design (90% of my gaming is done on console so it just feels more familiar) but agree with the op, PC style ui is the way to go with any rpg. Morrowind was a great example of how a pc ui can work on a console. There's every reason to take full advantage of the keyboard.

While we're at it, toss in the ability to name save games or give each character their own profile so that saves don't overlap. I'm fairly sure not being able to name them was another console UI carryover, but profiles really shouldn't be hard.

Voted for PC style,

I would love to have a more PC oriented UI, scales properly with resolution changes, allows world interation while in menu like Morrowind. I feel the odds are small, but it would be great. won't shed tears if it's not though, Oblivion was still awesome without it.

I think that was just laziness, because in a high majority of games we are able to name or profs. Hell in Morrowind we were.

That's one of the things that I hate about both Oblivion and Fallout 3. Profile management in both those games is absolutely horrible and causes nothing but confusion and aggravation. Here's hoping that they improve profile management in Skyrim.

Got so used to hitting "tilde" "savegame name" "enter" instead of going into the menu, clicking save, clicking new save, then escapiong again. years of practice i guess, I have no quips about this, but it would add to a polished feel, I agree.

For myself I would like a very subtle UI. So translucent and grey, fades away when not being used, ie; just walking around. A big thing for me it isn't just plastered over top of the game view but more integrated. For me in a perfect game it would strive to outdo the likes of say Far Cry 2 with things being integrated into the world itself, ie; the compass and map are actual items you look at.

...clearly he has an artistic-eye for how UI's should work.

Hopefully Bethesda will take note and either hire him, or follow his example of what an intuitive UI looks like.

My vote is hire him for all his past hard work! He deserves it!

Though I want it added to, at least we have "Save name_must_use_underscores_rather_than_spaces_or_it_wont_work,_minus_the_quotes" in the console.

yeah that mod is amaaazing. still could do without those sluggish animations and have a super fast map show up with the press of a bindable button.

It really shouldn't be that hard. Just make the UI like it would be for the consoles. Once it's done and tested and bug free, just work on a copy (it wouldn't even really need to be a copy, just add features that only work for PC) that uses smaller text for PC. And give us an option to set certain keys to do certain things. So we can use ANY key on the keyboard to do something (like "m" goes straight to map, "j" goes to journal, ect.)

It really isn't all that difficult. How long did it take DarN to make his for FO:NV? Like a week or something?

Why design it with the most limited system in mind? Why not design it for PC and then adjust it for the console controllers?

Voted PC version, but to be fair there needs to be a toggle because there are folks out there who use console controllers on their PC. So the option needs to be maintained for PC users to play console style if thats what they want to do.

Normal PC style. Quick hotkeys for any UI function.

I think it's clear from this poll and the innumerable UI mods for oblivion that the UI was horrid - yes hotkeys for every action please

Something geared towards computers would be nice. Hell, at least give us the option to change font sizes easily.

voted yes for pc ui.

yet someone here said "beth is here to make money, not please [ morrowind ] gamers".

and i agree. why does anybody think they will spend zots into this if someone else does it willingly for free? NOTHING that has been done for free in the past will occupy time-$ resources, simply coz as a profit-driven company, it would be foolhardy. They're better off concentrating on other things that impact game mchanics / engine that the community cannot solve and leave the 'nice to have' stuff to us.

Would anyone do different?

Yet there's the fact that they humor modders in the first place. I think that shows enough that they do try to please their gamers. Also, by the way, it's not the fact that I've played Morrowind that makes me want better PC menus. It's that the Oblivion menus were rather clunky and not as easy to use as they could be that makes me want something made for the PC.

Just to clarify, as it might have sounded wrong... I am not bashing the devs at all - on another thread I said they were doing just what common and business senses dictate: this is a cut-throat biz, on top of trying to improve an already excellent brand. I am just trying to show why we should not have too much high hopes for the kind of 'nice to have' things implemented. They have a hell of a job to do with limited resources. And since the community has provided the immense support in the past, I do not see why not count on it again. I actually believe the community is looking forward to contributing - not to the extent that it would have to, if they shipped again a game like Daggefall, which crashed after 2 minutes playing....

Which is why I NEVER buy any game before something like 6 months have passed by (or more, for price drops :) )..

Anything that improves the gaming experience ought be employed in order to make the product as good as it can be.

Menus systems being bespoke to individual systems would fall in that bracket. IMO

As a console player I say: why not? No use in restricting PC users when they've got all those keys at hand. I wouldn't want to see exclusive gameplay elements and features on PC, but using that keyboard to it's full extent for UI doesn't seem unreasonable.

This

Also allow the text size to be changed in consoles as well as PCs. People don't like rediculously large or tiny text even on consoles.

It would be too hard for consoles. I doubt that they would make a separate UI just for PC, never heard of anyone doing that. They are there to make money, not to please Morrowind vets. Deal with it.

I don't think I've ever read a more wrong statement in this forum.
