Seriously? No list of perks in the manual?

Post » Thu Mar 11, 2010 1:20 am

Is it really necessary for it to require an internet search to find out what the available perks are in the game? Is it news to developers and producers that people who play RPGs actually like to plan their characters so they aren't disappointed 80% through the game that they can't get some perk because they didn't know what its prerequisites were?

I know I'm whining here, but how much does it really cost to add a couple pages to the paperthin manual that could be just as easily printed in black and white if cost is really prohibitive...

Yeesh.

Well considering by the time you are level 2 u can see every perk... it may be after your starting customization, you still get a chance to fix your character. they may not have put it in the manual but it would not have had a point.

Err....... Im sorry?

Not really sure what you want from us. Personally, it would not have mattered either way. You can see all the perks in game.

Not something I noticed.

And out of all the things to complain about... you pick this?

Are you guys just so bored that you will complain about anything at this point?

Buy the strategy guide... it's unbelievably awesome.

Because internet search for free is *so* hard...

Although I agree, game manuals are definitely getting thinner these days.

Games used to come with awesome stuff *just because* - part of the regular game, no such thing as Collector's Editions. Nice manuals and extra goodies.

Now you have to shell out major cash for Collector's Editions... but kudos to Bethesda for at least making pretty nifty CEs.

Now they just need to release a big ass hardcover Art of Fallout 3 / New Vegas book.

Oh man, I know what you mean! Back in the day, when I bought Ultima III: Exodus it came with a cloth map, several high quality books (spellbooks, an Avatar guide, game manual, etc), and a cool silver metal ankh. And this was the "regular" version of the game (no Collector's Edition back then!) Also, Infocomm used to release their text adventure games with lots of props included in the box. Some of the props were even required to play the game. Man, I miss those days of getting more stuff in a game box than a CD and a super-thin manual.

I also got some ad for something with my copy, so there's that.

Didn't make up for the lack of a spiral bound manual with some recipes in the back. Or, Ultima's cloth maps!

Manuals these days are worthless. It doesn't even tell you how to add mods to your weapons. Either make a detailed manual or don't even bother having one. Fallout Wikia and the game guide does a far better job any way.

I agree with the OP, I thought it was wierd too. I thought it was strange you cant browse the perks while in your pip boy menu.

I have a solution:

Level up and read the perks.

the manual must also assume you played FO3, cause there's nothing about lockpicking or debugging.

It is a pretty crappy manual

Yeah, no "welcome to Fallout New Vegas" page either, which I enjoyed in all of Bethesda's games. Not sure if the smaller manual is because Obsidian had different priorities or because manuals are so ignored now.

My biggest mistake with Fallout3 is getting that Fallout3 Collectors guide. It spoiled too much for I. I won't be doing the same mistake.

I have the new vegas collectors guide and it's awesome i reommend anyone gets it, though if you don't want spoilers only read the bit you NEED. Though sometimes i avoid pending on quest and need.

The manual is just there to show you the basics of the game today, and seeing as all the perks have their descriptions in game it's really not that hard to choose one ??. Shame i missed out on the days when games come with awesome stuff :(.

Wow €75 for collectors!!? It's only £60 (almost £10 less) here and less than than in the states. but €15 for the guide is bit high unless you mean collectors guide then it's same here pending where you go (and going by exchange rates).

Well, that's how it is today. If you want this kind of in-depth information before playing, you have to buy a game guide. Shouldn't be like that, but given how this is an industry now... :meh:
