Server browser returns no results

Post » Fri Oct 30, 2009 2:48 pm

For some reason I can't get the server browser to return any servers. It was working fine the first day or so after the game was released. Then it just stopped working. Maybe something to do with one of the patches?

I thought maybe my firewall (Comodo v.5.4.189822.1355) was interfering somehow, but I have Brink set up as a trusted application, with all incoming or outgoing requests allowed. All my other MP games, like Team Fortress 2 or Monday Night Combat work fine this way. I have no idea why Brink can't retrieve the server list. Anyone have any ideas?

I had this same issue. Was a little weird. So I closed out of Brink and tried running it directly from Steam. That fixed that issue for me.

That's how I've been running it. I tend to run all my games directly from Steam, as I don't like having all those games cluttering up my programs list. It's just odd that it worked for a day or so and then stopped.

Have you tried looking at servers through steam instead of in-game?

No, forgot that you could even do that. I just tried it though, and while I get the server list, and it launches Brink, I wasn't sure what was supposed to happen after that. When it launched, I selected my character, and then ended up in one of the menus titled "Invite Message Screen", so I backed out of that and went to the Freeplay menu and clicked Search. Then it popped up a window that said "PLEASE WAIT" and below that, "Joining Host..." There was just one button, "Abort". It just stayed like that for a few minutes until I finally clicked the Abort button. Any ideas?

When I do it it just joins automatically and when I exit to main menu it sends me to that invite page with the character settings.

...weird

Yeah, I don't know what could be blocking it. I even tried putting Comodo into "game mode", but that didn't help either. I really don't want to turn my firewall off, and I shouldn't have to. I just played about an hour of TF2 with no problem. I don't understand what this game is trying to do that isn't getting through the firewall.

Enter the search, press "Stop". Then press "Search". That's how I got it working.

Yeah, I tried that. It doesn't work for me. It just sits there forever trying to retrieve results, but I get nothing. I can see the servers through the Steam server browser though, but can't seem to connect to them that way.

Try turning off router firewall, then open brink server list and search for them.If they pop up,exit game, start router firewall again and search again for brink servers.

that solved the problem for me.I get 800-over 1000 servers now.

I don't know how I would even do that. I've got a Linksys WRT54GS v4 router, running Tomato 1.28 firmware. I see it has a Firewall tab with a few options, but no clear way to turn it on or off. Anything in particular I should be looking for?

Still trying to find a fix for this. I'm doing a reinstall right now, but I'm not very hopeful that that will fix it. Anyone else have any ideas?
