set your SKSE.ini to NMM?

Are you using SSME and SKSE 1.7.1? If yes, delete SSME! why? SKSE 1.7.1 already includes the mem patch by Sheson and using SSME and the SSME.ini possibly would cause CTDs. Delete all SSME-files and set your SKSE.ini to NMM

I don't understand "set your SKSE.ini to NMM?" Is this something that still needs to be done?

I hate ignoring install instructions.

I also have no idea what "set your SKSE.ini to NMM" would mean other than someone thinks you should manage your SKSE.ini file as a mod. If you download one of the pre-created ini files that would make perfect sense. If you create it by hand, it's just as easy to create it in the Data\SKSE folder directly and not try to repackage for NMM.

But the advice to get rid of SSME and just use Sheson's code in SKSE is good.
