Seth MacFarlane Rebooting the Flinstones

Post » Wed Aug 18, 2010 6:22 pm

I grew up watching the Flinstones, and despite that, I can easily say I'm not in the least bit interested in this.

Oh boy, now I can watch the Flintstones with the stupid randomness Family Guy has....yea cool, cut to Conway twitty for 5 minutes singing...funny or other random 100% irrelevant things.

Random cut-aways to pop culture references? In MY Flintstones?

Family Guy has gone down hill. It WAS good, but now I just don't seem to enjoy it. Just boring and nonsensical, also didn't like the Cleaveland show. American Dad is pretty good though. As for rebooting the Flintstones? I don't think anyone can pull it off personally. It's such a classic for a reason, I predict it to just be like all of his other shows. *yawn*

I kind of hope they keep to the original charm, and not make it a politics bashing sitcom. I like family guy (mostly the older stuff, but its still pretty good now) but flintstones is something I'd rather keep similar to before.

I'll go one further. Speaking as someone who used to rather enjoy it, I now don't think Family Guy ever was good. It was merely fresh enough and meme-filled enough to enthrall us for a time. It doesn't matter which season I look back on - all the episodes bore me now. I think it was the show's very nature of outlandish hyperbole that caused it to have such a short shelf-life. Family Guy may be mentioned in the histories of animated television, but I can't rightly regard it as a classic.

As for The Flintstones... well, it was the longest-running cartoon (until The Simpsons came along, of course) for a reason.

why? I do not see good things coming of this.

I was also a major MAJOR Flintstones fan as a kid, so this is also skepticism from a fellow fan. Of course MacFarlane is a fairly decent guy, even if his show is not something I care much for.
who knows, maybe the guy'll make it work

American Dad had its moments, but i've never liked Family Guy. Very overrated, weak humour.

Rebooting something as iconic as the Flintstones is a risk.

I tried watching Family Guy twice and I couldn't stand it. Constant bathroom jokes and random blood and crude humor. I hope he doesn't drag the Flintstones through the mud with that kind of humor. Just imagining Flintstones in that art style too. Ugh.

I like Family Guy, but I think this is a bad idea. Leave the classics alone.

What if he revitalizes it like Bethesda revitalized Fallout?

Debatable, though I liked it as much as the other Fallout games.

As for MacFarlane, he needs to calm down with all these shows. I'm tired of watching T.V. and seeing MacFarlane shows and the Simpsons fill the prime time slot.

Ugh...Now I hate Mondays even more now.

Instead of reusing an old idea, which is far too common these days, he should come up with something new and interesting. Leave the classics alone.
He's been reusing his own stuff a ton as is, so how is this new to Seth?

This is how I could see the show going down.

Fred gets fired from his job.

Wilma is nagging at Fred for not brining in enough money.

Fred goes off topic and says "Boy, this reminds me of the time [insert random event]"

The plot of Fred losing his job gets dropped after about 5 minutes.

Second plot starts of Barney, Bam Bam, Dino, Fred, and Pebbles going to the bowling alley.

Fred gets a perfect score.

Pebbles then gets a perfect score. (yes a rip off of The Simpsons)

Fred goes off topic again with a "Boy, this reminds me of the time [insert another random event]"

Second plot ends.

Third plot begins with a tension between Dino and Bam Bam.

Bam Bam talks in a British voice and tries to kill Dino.

Episode ends.

I used to enjoy Family Guy, but ever since watching American Dad, I really found FG to be a terrible show. :shakehead:

I am cautiously interested. MacFarlane has been very successful with Family Guy and his other shows. On the other hand, the Flintstones is something totally different. If he makes it like his other shows, it will fail. Still, a talented enough person usually can pull off more than one act.

So... what exactly does that sentence have to do with Seth MacFarlane? Oh, did you mean to say that a talented enough person could be able to pull off both an act and him? Why would anyone want to pull him off?! You're not making much sense.

Silly 60s sitcom cartoon meets silly new millennium sitcom cartoon. Well, first I need to see how it turns out to give an opinion. Family Guy has its up and down seasons, really.
