Setting of a scaled-down Skyrim (Poll)

Post » Sun Aug 04, 2013 1:39 am

When I was playing Morrowind the other night, a thought came to me. Bethesda created this rich and vibrant world that is, according to the lore, only a fraction of the size of Skyrim. I then recalled http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1450808-tes-would-really-benefit-from-a-smaller-scale/?hl=scale in which the OP argues that a smaller scale would be a benefit to the series.

Anyway, this thread is not about whether or not TES would benefit from a smaller scale. I am curious in knowing where the community believes Skyrim should be set if it were scaled down?

And by scaled-down, I mean that the game world would be more or less the same size, yet the setting would be limited to a particular region and shown in greater detail.

All holds and Solstheim. Exactly how it is now.

This just seems ridiculous to me. I mean, you can't just blow up the - I mean come on! You can't just go altering sizes and lore!

It's not altering the lore really - Morrowind (or more correctly Vvardenfel) is meant to be like 1/4 of the size of Skyrim, but in-game it's only 1/2. So logically the scale has been changing constantly (I mean look at the size of the provinces in Arena/Daggerfall) so this wouldn't be much of a change.

There isn't a single hold that could accurately portray Skyrim. Skyrim is pretty small as it is.

That's what I should've said.

:stare: Well... Well I still don't like it.

I chose Solstheim, and admittedly due to some Morrowind nostalgia. However, if Solstheim were to be represented as a vast, large island, it could have much potential for interest. The settlements could be scaled to be much larger than they are now, and there could be the addition of a few more, smaller villages or cottages scattered throughout the isle.

Eastmarch has it all, Mountains, lowlands, snow, relative temperate south. Lots of dungeons etc.

I wouldn't really like this EXCEPT you'd have awesome cities. One of my gripes with Skyrim (and all the ES games, to be honest) is that the cities are tiny. If you were 'amplifying' Whiterun province, then Whiterun could afford to be 5-6x it's current size, which would be awesome.

Games called Skyrim. Takes place in Solstheim. Makes sense. /saracasm

I'd say Winterhold (and without that added "Great Collapse" excuse). You have yourself one of the largest cities in Tamriel, mountains, snow, glaciers. I just find that to be the best view for Skyrim if it were scaled down.

I would argue for the opposite, that the holds aren't big enough and need to be bigger.
