Settlement and VATS graphics glitch

Post » Sat Jan 16, 2016 4:57 am

Hey, all. I am having a problem with the UI and was hoping somebody could help.

When in the settlement building menu and VATS during combat, I get a strange graphical glitch that turns the screen green or red as if I was looking at an old school snowy picture. It has made settlement building frustrating at best and downright impossible at worst. If the piece is in a more or less open area, it displays properly, but if I am looking downward or near an obstruction (walls, bushes, etc.) this happens.

I am running the game on an Alienware Aurora with 16 gigs of RAM and a GeForce GTX 770.

I don't know if this is a hardware compatibility or software issue. Any help would be appreciated.

I was gonna include a picture of the problem, but the forum doesn't accept links or direct image copying. Right now I'm too frustrated to try and ferret out how I'm supposed to add it as an attachment, so I could use some help with that too. Thanks in advance.

Can you upload a screenshot of the glitch? PM me the link.

Edit: Also if you want to upload your save, that could be helpful.

Yea that was part of the problem. The forum won't let me paste the pic here, nor will it let me just put the link in the message itself. I PMed ya the link. As far as uploading my save here, I have no real clue as to how to do that, unfortunately. I can screencap all day long, but how does one go about uploading a .fos file to a forum?

I've seen this issue before. Was solved by updating graphics drivers.

You would have to upload it to cloud storage (i.e. OneDrive, Google Drive, Dropbox, etc...) and then post the link PM me the link. You cannot upload directly to the forum.

As Rebdy88 stated, try updated your video card driver. Try going directly to Nvidia, if Dell doesn't have a recent driver..

Also post a dxdiag report, please.

Use the Search box or Run... box, type: cmd and press Enter.

In the command prompt, type:

dxdiag /t dxdiag.txt

and press Enter.

Now go to the %userprofile% directory (C:\User\), find the dxdiag.txt file. Open the file. Select All. Copy and Paste its contents here in a reply. Use the spoiler tags, by either using the following:

[spoiler] dxdiag text [/spoiler]

or by clicking the icon (Special BBCode) next to Font menu, and selecting 'spoiler'.

Well, I tried updating the drivers right after the game launched, but it didn't clear the problem. For [censored] and grins I went and rechecked for updates. The drivers were updated again on 12/21. That seems to have fixed it this time. Thank you both for your help. It is very much appreciated.
