Do Settlement attacker follow traders to you?

Post » Thu Jan 21, 2016 3:01 pm

This is something I've been wondering. Seems like every time I have to defend a settlement, traders mostly provisioners are there with that damn cow running all over the place.

So I started wondering, are some of the attacks like the ones where your already in the settlement when it happens. Are caused by raiders, super mutants etc. By them chasing and being lead to your settlement by the caravan?

i think i complained so much about my provisioners never showing up in my settlements when i was there that now they changed it to make them show up EVERY TIME you're there ,-)

Yes I get it quite a lot at the slog as the provisioner walks past the Saugus iron works (where the forged are based). Also I had a settlement under attack notification yesterday and after I travelled there and watched my turrets do their thing but the quest didn't complete so as I was wandering around I saw a pack Brahmin off in the distance acting strangely so I went to investigate and found the last 3 attackers slapping the thing around. When I killed them the quest to defend completed.

settlements get attacked when food/inhabitant ratio rises towards more food than inhabitants (don't ask me for exact relation though, but iirc it's just 1:1) and defenses are, uh, insufficient, _totally_ don't ask for numbers here pls :-)

so, if you want your settlements to get attacked when you're there, just don't always eat up all the mutfruit as soon as you arrive ,-)

you do get random attacks, shortly after establishing the red rocket when I first started a supermutant raiding party wandered past, once the turrets saw them and let rip they charged the station

just passing on what i read in another thread, totally haven't looked into the game files yet (not even unpacked the bsa's)

and just that food/settlers ratio is a trigger for attacks doesn't necessarily mean it's the only one

There are two kinds of attacks it seem. The ones that "triggered" by the settlements, then there is the one with raiders attacking caravans following in to the settlements. In the latter cases it seem that no structures/crops are destroyed.

there is random attacks, mostly by raider/super mutant patrols that walks past and get's attacked by turrests/guards.

I noticed that giving the settlement guards short distant weapons seemed to make the risk smaller for these kinds of attacks.

On hangmans Alley I gave one of my guards a sniper rifle. he kind of shots at everything that walks by that is flagged as raider/supermutant. I tried giving him a normal 10mm pistol and he seemed to ignore the patrols walking on the streets outside.
