Settlement Ideas

Post » Thu Nov 26, 2015 9:00 pm

So, now we know that we can build our own settlements and have folks come to them and a community spring up, an awesome new Feature introduced in Fallout. With this kind of Optional Mechanic, it leads to a lot of decision making.

What kind of Settlement will this be? Who do I want to attract to this town? What buildings Do I want to build/how do I want to build?

Let's get started with the Brainstorming.

I want a town, where I can lure people to their deaths. Nobody leaves Tombstone alive!

I'm hoping you can keep it serious in tone. Not interested in a Vault Boy LED.

Would also like to see themed settlements. I wonder if we can outfit the guards ourselves? It looks promising.

I am hoping for freedom in vertical building. I want to build the city of Elantris.

I know it's morbid, but I hope we can place the heads of the collected bandits and Super Mutants on pikes outside the settlement to warn off unwanted guests.

I hope so too. I like the idea of building an entire suite of Power Armor for my Town Guards. Anyone who commits the most heinous crime of seeking to attack the settlement will be met with a most painful death sentence; and their head added to the collection.

Really hope they give multiple ways to how your little town will be like, i.e if you're a bandit type of character you can build some sort of raider camp and recruit other raiders who you can go pillage towns and raid caravans with as opposed to just having some generic town for every type of character you make.

I like these, makes me want to build a big town and then become an tyrannical mayor who (if the the settlement builder lets me) makes settlers run through a gauntlet of sentries, flamethrowers and mole rats.

I wonder if you can build more than one?

I'd like to have a main town along with a sneaky hideaway where I store all my looting gear :ninja:

This is what I'm hoping for as well.

I really like the idea of forming a raider/slaver type settlement.

I'm curious about what quests and npcs might pop up in your settlement that you wouldn't get to experience otherwise, or if they'll be generic nameless npcs we can impose stories on. Either way I'm good, kinda hoping for a mix of both.

So god help me if the guards are named with their own little families, it'll be xcom all over again if I lose one.

That makes me hopeful that Bethesda will add that sort of depth to their crafting and settlement building. From what we've in the showcase, it seems reliant on computer systems (turrets/lighting/etc.) the traders setting up shop at your settlement is good place to start with making it the way you want it. Although, much of the personalization will probably be left to the imagination, sort of like RP for an entire town.

I'll make a small home at first, maybe plant a garden and have water... with a trader stand... as I gather resources expand..... make the building larger, add power... Lights, turrets, then if enough people come to trade... I'll find a new location to set up city #2, get it up to snuff and start the caravans going. Once raiders start to attack, I'll be able to not only sell food and water, but weapons and armor as well... a little bullet ridden, but they should suffice

I just want to make a little quaint town where travelers can spend a few hours having a beer and sharing their tales about the dangers of I95 and the secrets that the Institute holds. They can feed their empty stomachs and rest their soar feet before renewing their adventure. And when they grin as they leave my small town I will be perfectly content.

From what we saw already of the feature, it seems like a more creative and in-depth version of the Hearthfire add-on. Which is welcome in my eyes.

I'm sure a presence of the MWBoS would happily agree with your ideas. Though that's probably just stereotyping on my part.

We saw npc fighting back even someone using an huge mortar who caused explosion among the enemies, (it might be automatic but somebody was close to it)

i don't think we get named people in or village outside of spare followers and perhaps some quest related stuff like attracting traders. Note that it would be pretty easy to mod in groups who will move to you. slaves or prisoners would fit perfectly.

In short the settlement idea will add lots of stuff for moders to hook into. Everything from other building styles to settlement types.

I'd like the option to build a proper settlement, one where it can feel like America is truly coming back to life. Homes, farms, schools, libraries. :)

Cool book. Wish that has a sequel.

Yes, you can.

And according to the video, you can make a caravan crossing between them. Very awesome feature, I'm anxious for it.

I think this could be a very cool feature and one I'm anxious to try out. It always bothered me how little rebuilding there was in the Capital Wasteland, for places like Big Town to actually survive and exist in such a hostile environment they'd have to be much more fortified, populated, and self-sufficient with some way of providing for the needs of residents. Always made a personal mission (for good characters anyways, heh) to try and help them out, give them better armor and weapons and so on.

This new feature seems like a very similar type of idea but naturally much more advanced and fleshed out with actual guards, fortifications, some type of economy and so on. Looks like it'll be great fun and give the wasteland some serious depth and a sense of realism.

You know, I thought of a more advanced Hearthfire when I was watching the demo.

What I thought was interesting is there was a mortar shown.... So we can add mortars to our settlements as well as turrets...

I liked the add-on but wished it was less linear and directed in the building of the houses, so I am excited to see almost complete freedom to design however I please with not just one structure but several!

That can turn into trade posts, as well as have caravans that travel between them.... Quite a step up from the hearthfire add on.

It's probably a given but I hope the caravans can be raided by, uh, raiders. Not because I want casualties but to imply that I can upgrade my caravans to better defend against unruly parties of wasteland [censored]s.
