Settlement population question

Post » Tue Feb 02, 2016 5:48 pm

Hi gang,

I'm getting ready to start a new character and this time I want to make a charisma based builds and concentrate on settlement building which I've pretty much ignored entirely with my first two characters.

After some reading I understand that the max population at a settlement is normally 10 + charisma.

My question is, what happens if I have my settlement population at Sanctuary maxed out and only then go rescue Preston Garvy and the Quincy Survivors (That'd make a good band name now that I think about it, hah!). Do the newcomers add to the settlement population normally allowing a way around the population cap or do they maybe just stand around doing nothing? If they're doing nothing can I temporarily boost my charisma with clothing or chems and then assign them to a job?

Another related question would be what happens if I then start sending dismissed companions to Sanctuary as well?

Thanks!

honestly no idea about the preston one, i assume you mean the museum of freedom survivors in concord? ifso id assume since its scripted they go there no matter what

the max population can be boosted by boosting charisma, such as clothes and/or drugs, PA paint etc

the max settlement size is your charisma (including boosts) at the time of sending someone to settlement or if beacon is on, you will get a settler if max population isnt meet yet (based on CURRENT cha)

once some ones in they are in for good, so if your max settlement is say 20 then you use charisma clothes to allow for 2 more settlers making 22, when you remove your charisma boost yiu do not lose those 2 settlers they are there perment

companions cannot be sent to a full settlement, its greyed out, but you can temporary increase your charisma (clothes, drugs, PA paint etc) above that point thus allowing you to send companion there. Once again when you remove clothes, drugs wear off etc it doesnt matter once they are there they are there for good (till you move them or something)

Thanks, Hofman! Very helpful indeed.

I'm especially glad you mentioned that companions can't be sent to a full settlement. I wasn't aware of that so I"ll have to adjust my plans.

Cheers!

That inability to send a companion to a full settlement without temporarily boosting your charisma has been changed with the beta software release.

I have noticed that the beta allows you to send dismissed companions to any allied settlement.
