Settlement Shop Limit?

Post » Fri Jan 29, 2016 4:26 am

Hey,

I've run into a very odd issue with my settlements.

Thanks to having Preston Garvey as a companion for a long time, talking about nothing but "I've heard from another settlement that needs our help"..., I've unlocked nearly every settlement in the game and started expanding every one of them. Some of them I wanted to become trading posts, that specialize in keeping the trade alive throughout the Commonwealth and don't really produce any goods themselves. Therefore I wanted to add several shops (armor, clothing, weapons, medical etc.) to each of those posts, but now that I have build around 20 of those shops I suddenly can not build any shop. I definetely have the ressources required yet I can not build any shop.

What could be the problem, and is there maybe a hard limit as to how many shops you can have in total (for whatever reason... I mean, currently I only make 500+ caps a day...but that's not the point)?

Question, can you not build anymore for this specific area, or for all settlements?

Just tested it again, I can't build one anywhere.

This I never heard before, but you need steel, wood and caps. If one or more are grayed out, you need to find more materials or caps.

As mentioned above, I have everything required.

Update: Ok, now it gets really weird.

I had 4 steel left, the store needs 3 to be build and it didn't work. I scrapped some stuff and now that I have over 40 steel it works again. And yes, I did not just mix up which side is the one that shows how much I have vs the side showing what I need.

I have at least 1 bar in every settlement, and at least 3 settlements that have all 6 stores, totaling about 40 stores (estimated) throughout the map. PS4 so no mods.

Are you sure you're not at the build limit in these settlements

I never heard of that issue.

However, I have my own problems with shops. Most seems to need at least 5 game days before the goods and caps are restocked. At Outpost Zimonja it is even worse... I have gained more than 5 levels and all the shops there have not restocked yet.

While they are in different settlements, the issue remains the same with the same solution, and as it is clearly shown the settlement limit has not been reached (and no exploits or mods are used to increase the limit). The only difference is the place and the fact that I have more steel.

(and the amount of bottlecaps is different, the clinic on the right was build once I could build again)

Weird, you have the items, caps, perks.

Are your existing stores staffed?

Most of the stores I built and didn't assign anyone to it till later.

Yes, every store that I build has someone assigned to it.

Does it work with 5 steel? 6 steel? 10? See which amounts of steel work and which don't. Try it with caps and wood too. Maybe you ran into a bug. Also, are the resources in your inventory or in your workbench, or available via supply lines? If they are in your inventory, try putting them in the workbench, and vice versa. Try putting them in both places. Maybe the game doesn't count your resources correctly for some reason.

Unfortunately I don't really have the time to extensively test this atm.

I had this happen before, but since I'm running the beta patch, it never happens now. Before, I could not build anything, when I was down to the bare minimum of materials. Like something would use 3 steel and I had just 3 or even 4 steel, I couldn't build it. Now, if I have 3 steel left and the build requires 3 steel, it will let me build it and let me use the last of my junk. I think it was a glitch in the system or some form of bug. Just make sure you have plenty of materials on hand and you won't run into this issue.

So what you say is that you had the same issue and it seems to be fixed in the beta patch?

If that is the case I'll try and store the saves and test it again once the patch hits live.

Is there an alpha patch? I'm currently running the 1.3 beta patch, mentioned http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1583568-fallout-4-13-beta-update/.

@ FreshTheFallen, that is what I am saying, yes. :)

Something that always irks me, and you might have a similar issue: I haven't finished a certain quest but one of the quest items seems to count for a couple of wood. My workshop will tell me I have enough wood to build something, but part of that wood resource is a quest item that can't be broken down.

Possible, but I don't recall picking up anything related to a quest that would count towards the amount of steel I have.

The only item in the inventory that I don't know a use for (yet) is a Dampening Coil from that factory where the Forged used to hang around (before I murdered them...).
