settlement sizes

anyone else struggling with settlement sizes?, for me the castle is particularly small, I've only really have around 8 turrets, 4 artillery ( maybe that's a waste can more then 1 a settlement be used?) and some food, water etc, I was left with no room in the size bare to make a tower block or a hut even.

Why did they restrict the sizes so much, surely given that settlement building is a big feature the ability to build big wicked tower blocks and structures would have been the way to go?

Drop all your weapons(heavily modded preferred) go in the build menu thing and store them in the workshop it'll make the size "bigger" I made a fully fledged town out of red rocket thanks to that trick.

Just be careful with it because it is possible to corrupt your saves doing that.

Did not know that, my only saves that get corrupted are when I use the auto save and then turn off my xbox a couple seconds later.

I may have figured out a work around for the settlement size. The amount of room you have is consumed in an item to item fashion, size of the object doesn't matter. What I mean is, you can scrap 1 loose tire and in turn build one of the pre-fab buildings. The fact that their unequal in size doesn't matter. Scrap one thing and you can build another.

So, my work around is this. Take as many junk items as you want from your storage, any size, drop them from your inventory one by one within your settlement. Then go into the build menu and scrap all that junk you just piled up. You will see that you now have more room to build more stuff.

Now mind you, the restriction was put in place for a reason. So don't go too crazy.

Nope.

In SH, my compound comprises of the 6 houses/foundation on the right side of the island (starting from bridge). I'll have to upload pictures to best describe it but its very large. I have roughly 50 turrets pointing different angles (inside & out). I had 1 gunner attack there but it ended very quickly. I watched as the turrets quickly dispersed them. Very cool. I haven't discovered the castle yet. I am trying to make my way there from DC to meet up with the minutemen but every time I discover a new location, I clear it and have to return to OZ to unload, resupply, etc. Plus, I don't like traveling at night lol. So it takes time.
