Settlement Still Buggy & Preston Still Bugged

Post » Sat Mar 19, 2016 8:18 pm

Anyone else still find that their settlement numbers still bug out? Before the bugfix patch, my settler number would drop and my water number would drop. Now, however, my settler number will skyrocket and happiness plummets like a rock anytime I leave.

On multiple occasions I've left to do some stuff in the Commonwealth, but then when I highlight Sanctuary Hills on my map, it says I have 36 Settlers and my happiness has dropped from 87 to 68. I panic and fast travel there, but the moment I arrive the numbers are normal except for happiness. The moment I am there the arrow immediately turns around and goes back up, but it's slow to actually push the numbers up. I've been trying to work at that achievement, but it's seeming [censored] impossible at this point in time unless I literally devoted hours to just *standing* in my settlement since it bugs whenever I leave. I have 21 Settlers, 36 food, 120 water, 505 Defense, multiple stores(Clinics, General Trader, Bar)....

And ever since finishing the game, Preston will not talk to me regularly. I lost him as a Settler some time ago when I took Castle, and I thought I'd get him back with the bugfix patch, but by then I finished the main storyline and now all he does to me is try to confront me over my choices...over and over and over again. Doesn't matter which options I choose. I can't open up the follower options and I don't get quests from him or locals anymore.

You are not alone. My 3 100% Happy-Very Happy settlements plummeted too after the new patch (1.4). Preston: I avoid him like the pest nowadays so I cannot help you there, but I had the same problem as you in the past.

Have you tried reaching 100% Happiness with smaller settlements? That's how I got them to reach that number. Two settlers, one high tier Bar with one settler assigned to it and the other one to 6 food items ( 6 Mutfruits), water, nice beds under a roof and high defense. I kept building for a while and came back every time I could to talk to them. Eventually, those places reached 100%.

I got 100% with 2 settlers and 1 provisioner too, but had Brewing Buddy (that increases happiness), one of Gene's dogs, 2 bars, water, beds, very high defense etc. and lots (lots!!!) of food in the workbench.

There are ways to get the Achievement with a large settlement, I just like to have the least number of settlers in mine so I am not sure how would it work. Try the 2 settlers method in a place with no supply line and see if it works.

yep after 1.4 made this a lot worse, my sanctuary constantly reports 1 bed so happiness plummets (21 settlers) every single time

but, it seems fast traveling that causes this and no matter what when you are actually there it will report correctly.

what i do now is just travel manually away from sanctuary (or any other settlement) and then fast travel once outside their borders and that has seemed to stop the misreporting

You know, I've wondered for a while now if some locations might just be inherently easier to get 100%. Some settlements I have hardly ever touched or worked with have high happiness ratings, even with a bunch of people. Sanctuary, however, seems to be a [censored] battle with the bugs. Half of me wonders if, with the kind of level I am now and the amount of caps I have, I can just set *everything* up a settlement would need before people get there and if it would reach 100% on its own. Put up the shops, put up the beds, put up the food, the water, and pimp out a house or two.... I've worked hard to not just spam stuff. I've made multiple shops, but I didn't just put twenty of them down or something. The extra shops I have made have been placed aesthetically and I was trying to see how much I could do without "cheating." Keep the settlement looking ad much like an actual settlement by investing in all the things that make settlers happy instead of just owning twelve bars or some odd nonsense. With the bug though, I never get to know how happy my settlement could actually get. I never know what number it will max out on.

I thought the achievement thingy required twenty settlers or something.

I've tried running out of the borders and fast traveling from there, but I still got the misreport. =/ It'd be fine if the happiness drop in the misreport would revert back when I got back like the other numbers, but it doesn't. It has to climb back up from the number it dropped to.

I'm on ps4 and had this issue since patch 1.3. Now patch 1.4 has completely broken my game. I set up spectacle island as a water purification military base for the sole purpose of making purified water to fund my other settlement expansions. Now my happiness level drops insane fast if I leave for more than 5 minutes. This needs to be fixed asap, especially since wasteland workshop comes out next month. I love the settlement building aspect of this game and I think it's a great choice for end game content. Too bad it still doesn't work. I'm all the more livid because I've spent the last week focusing on setting up supply lines and building up my base necessities in preparation for the first 2 dlc.

I forgot to mention, that any time my settlement falls below 50% happiness, my purified water reserves no longer fill in the workshop.
