Settlement

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 1:48 pm

Some hours later, a hold spell and a carefully placed arrow provide a fat buck.

raggi cuts a couple of slender staves and binds them into a simple travois over which he spreads a light weather-proofed sheet. He lays the buck on the sheet leaving the arrow in the wound to minimise blood-shed - he has no wish to be trailed by scavengers and predators. And then he hauls it some way and hoists it up into the tree where he leave it safe while he visits the nearby locations where he has spotted tubers and other edibles.

Then he makes his way back to the settlement, well pleased with his efforts.

Hours later A shirtless Ikarion returns from the woods,two large Dremora are carrying a canvas with 4 large tree's wrapped into it. Ikarion grinned and began to chop the wood into framework to repair the supply room. The newly arrived smith walked about the smithy. Ikarion nodded to the man as he swung the axe down.

Erik hissed angrily. The new guard was due to arrive soon. He played with the hilt of his sword angrily, his new position was not to be taken lightly and he wanted to impress the boss.

Conivicous patted the horses flanks lightly. Ikarion promised him a real stable. Then again the problems with the deserters and the fireballs had distraught the leader.Conivicous had served the same time as Ikarion, As light calvary. Conivicous nodded to Ikarion as the man swung a large ax at some timber.

After finalising the edict with Ikarion, Genesis opened up his armor chest beside his desk, and removed his set of netch leather armor and cloth bracers, then carefully removed his prized Morag Tong helm, which he slipped under his arm. After fitting each piece, he tested the edge of his blade, Ruinae, against his calloused thumb. A small droplet of blood appeared at the blade's edge, and he smiled. Still razor-sharp. He sheathed the blade, then walked outside, over to where Ikarion was busy with the horses. "I'm going out for a while, just to scout out the surrounding area, find any potential hiding-places or ambush spots for bandits - and more importantly, for us to use to our advantage. I'll be gone for a day at most. When I get back, I'll compile a report on my findings, as well as a rough map. If anyone arrives with potential spy or silent combat abilities, leave me a note and I'll get to processing them when I return." He patted Ikarion on the shoulder. "And from what I've seen, my friend, this land lends itself to a great many opportunities for covert defense. Let the bandits and raiders come - by the time they reach the walls, it'll be too late to turn back. I want to have as many people as I can trained and ready for these plans. On that note, let everyone know I'm looking to recruit, especially the guards. Farewell, and Azura guard us whilst I am away." He turned toward the entrance, slipped on his helm, and moved quickly outside, alert to every detail of the landscape. He checked his pockets for the food he had saved from Raggi's last meal - it would sustain him for the time he was gone. In the sky, the moons were just about risen, and shed a soft light over the unfamiliar landscape. Unfamiliar - not for long...

OOC: For the map, I'll create another image file which you can upload to where the current one is - or maybe you can just edit the current one and add my findings in.

Dragging his travois behind him, raggi stomps into the settlement and proceeds to skin the carcass and carefully removes the hooves and antlers. Then he guts it and tying the hind legs together drives a strong stake into the wall of the forge at the corner facing the square that has formed and hangs it there to drain in the bright but brief afternoon sun. Then he scraqes the skin and cleans up the offal and such, separating out the sweetmeats and cleaning them carefully. He places them into a bag that he keeps for the purpose and scoops all the humanly inedibles into a wooden bowl.

Then he trecks over to the woodpile and selects two more poles and using more of his rawhide strips binds them into a square - and stretches the deerskin out on it ready to be cured and treated.

Its getting late in the afternoon and he looks for the boss ... 'hey there boss', he says, 'we could do with an abbatoir and tannery ... somewhere away from the stables and livestock - not to mention away from our noses. It can be a small building, but it needs to be solid because the smell of the carcasses might attract predators despite the humans and mer here.

Also about current storage - now that the weather is turning towards spring would it be possible to turn one of the stables into a temporary storage facility so that our game can be properly hung and our vedge can be kept safe? And we will need a 'root cellar' to keep food cool in the warmer months that are coming - I must admit that I haven't explored the settlement much yet.

Also I have the carcase of a deer that is hanging in the open there at the side of th eforge away from the livestock and a deerskin prepared for treatment if you have the doings? Otherwise I will collect them myself. There's some offal that would be good for pigs and chickens - otherwise it will have to be incinerated.

And what are we going to eat for dinner? Seems I'm the only one around here that actually wants to eat and is willing to cook a bit - for now. Maybe you could run through whatever supplies have survived the fire if any - hopefully there were provisions in the Main Building?

A list of livestock and so forth would help ...

Ikarion was adressed by his spy master, About going out to map the terrain "If anyone volunteers i will train them. Ikarion nodded as the man left. Ikarion liked his spymaster, he seemed to know what he was about. And Ikarion appreciated it.

Ikarion nodded to the Mage. "We will work on it one step at a time, but those are all good Ideas. Ikarion then began stacking the timber against the main building. Then walked into the Main house, There he found the maid. "Have the Cooks prepare us a feast." The maid nodded curtly. He then went upstairs to dress in his best.

Erik got tired of waiting. He frowned slightly. He suddenly thought about the carravan being cut off by bandits but then shook his head. "Not my problem." Ikario half drew his sword as a bush shook. He hissed and turned back about his sentry line.

Derr was impressed upon by a young women. She told him hurriedly that he needed to prepare a feast. Derr grinned and clapped his hands. "Tis done." He said in his stange accent.

Information:: I am joining as the 5th peasant, a more technical one. Looks like this RP needs someone in construction
Name: Ardion
NickName: Ardy
Race: Nord
Age:22
Gender: Male

Class: Skilled Craftsman
Skills:(pick 6,put an * to the best three.) Cooking, Farming, Smithing*, Mining, Woodwork*, General Survival Skills* (is that within the rules? This char is supposed to be a subsistence survival person mostly (includes fishing, surveying, hunting, et cetera))

Appearance:: Slightly toned muscles with moderately tanned skin.
Eyes:: deep blue
Build:: slightly tall, muscle-y
Weight:: 150 lbs
Height:: 6'1
general appaerance: Fairly tall, slightly toned muscles, dark brown hair, thick, rough skin.

Weapons: Hunting bow, 27 iron arrows, two daggers, small one-handed axe

Armor/clothing: Leather armor (set), one set of spare dry clothes (linens), one furry buckskin cloak

Mentality: Do-What-You-Need-To-Get-By type mentality

Misc gear: Assorted cooking gear (frying pan, two knives, baking pan, clay bowl, wooden spoon), carving knives, smithing hammers, small wood tobacco pipe (w/ bag), small fishing rod/net, wooden cup, pewter plate, crude sack (slung over shoulder to carry items. Holds 50 pounds, rips at 60), small blank book

Bio: Ardion has lived a hard life in Skyrim. He has no wife, his parents died at the age of 10. But when they were alive, they taught him the skills needed for him to survive as a hunter. Once, he was attacked by a bear, in the foothills of the Jeral Mountains bordering Cyrodiil. He was severely wounded, and still has an intense fear of bears. He returned to his village and took up metalworking and woodworking to make ends meet. He then decided to head for a far-off settlement he heard of from the village hunter.....

OOC: I hope this character doesn't have too much stuff or something, I tried to make some weaknesses to balance things out, like the bear thing.

looks interesting - but is he a peasant, a maid or a guard?

The armorer position is being held down along with several others by XHavokX - if you can't fit your guy into that scheme of things directly you might 'adjust' him to take that position?

OOC page4 - post #73 - raggi has built a lean-to on the side of the Forge

"my name is basher, and no i haven't talked to the captain yet, do you happen to know where he might be? I want to kill something."

IC Welcome basher. About Erik? About the only time I see him is when he is on duty - guarding the perimiter. A word of advice, make a bit of noise before you get near him - he seems very alert - and that sword comes out of it's sheath mighty fast. Better to kill a bear than your own guard captain.

Actually if you make a habit of killing any bears that approach the settlement Erik ought to be pleased about that. A bit hard on the poor bears but bearskin makes great rugs and light to medium armor.
