Settlement

Ardion walked over to the pile of lumber while overhearing an interesting conversation. He picked up a good, solid oak plank, turning around slightly to eye the Spymaster fellow. Another odd one...Spymaster...hah Thought Ardion. He dropped his sack next to the wood and brought out his hammer, axe and knife. He looked at the wood again, then at the charred storeroom. If I get the joints correct, this should be more than enough wood to build this thing...

Ardion took off his bow and quiver of arrows and placed them by his sack. He then got to work, cutting away rough joints on one end of twenty boards. Hmm...No place to sink these into the ground. Looking around, Ardion noticed a wide scrap of wood, not too long. He picked up his axe and started demolishing one side of the ruins of the old building. After most of the rubble was cleared away, he tried to dig a small trench to place the boards in with the scrap wood. He soon noticed the ground was too hard for the wood to dig in to. Ardion picked up his axe again and turned it sideways, slowly digging out the trench. After digging only a few feet he thought This is good enough for day one I think. Got some boards cut, the rubble cleared out, and some of the trench dug.

raggi turns to the spy-master and asks: " think you the provisions will need a guard sera - assuming where the bandits you felled were not alone? I imagine that the locals know that this settlement is growing apace and there is the old Silver Mine here and so too will any bandits with local connections - question being were the bandits you discovered aware of us and when can we expect more?

Genesis thought for a moment. "Well, from what I overheard as I approached them, there seems to be a makeshift camp some way further to the east, where these men were from. I'm not sure how long it's been active, but the group I ran into was a scouting party - they had a compass and some scribing equipment on them among the other things - so I'd say they're new to this area. And since that scouting party isn't going to get back to them anytime soon, I'd say they're going to come looking for what took them out. Which means us. So, they're not aware of us yet, but they'll find us sooner or later. Assign a guard to the provisions, not full-time, just to check up on everything once in a while. Once we're sure there's a definite threat to us, we can step up the security. I'll give the matter some more thought and draw up a more detailed plan later."

A young nord man clad in furs and carrying a deer on his back melted from the forest and approached the man he thought was in charge.

"My name is Sigormund Bear-helm and i seek a new home. if you accept me, i shall defend this place with all the might of my arm. I am an expert bowman and warrior."

The young man dropped the deer he was carrying at the spymaster's feet. "i have brought a gift to secure my place."

So much to do and not enough time to do it in." raggi looks up at the boss expectantly: "Do you want me to get on with some more forraging and gathering or help with the construction of a new warehouse first then? - I have an excellent telekinesis spell that I want tp practice with a bit."

Ikarious spoke to the Almter,"We need to fix the building first.", then turing to the Nord. "Welcome to the settlment". Then finaly to the cook,"Welcome, the kitchens are in the main house." ikarious then spoke louder. "Every new comer please read the rules posted to the timber on the main house."

Ardion walked into the courtyard once again and saw a Nord with a deer and another man talking to the Spymaster. "Well hello there! I'm the carpenter around here. And who might you two be?"

Sigormund realized he was standing next to the cook and shoved the dead deer into his arms. "Call me Sig" he said, walking away.

Sigormund left his belongings next to the main building and surveyed the town. This place is not fitting for a mighty warrior such as myself, he thought.

He stripped off his cuirass and helm, picked up his hatchet, trudged off toward the woods, and set to work felling trees to make a lodge.

EDIT: used wrong name in second line, despite the fact that it was written correctly in first line.

However, i might ask you to get yuor warriors to show more respect to their elders. I refuse to work here if I'm not treated with the same Respect any pompous warrior is given."

Sig looked up as he felled his second tree. The old cook had thrown Sig's gift back at him and it had landed in the middle of the open field between the two men.

Fine, let it rot there, Sig thought, its not my job to make it taste good.

Sig returned to his work silently. He worked quickly and diligently, sweat flying from his brow on this hot afternoon. He would soon need to find something other than this fur to wear. It had served him well over the last 4 years, but it was never this warm in Skyrim.

OOC:yes its around 4 in the afternoon.

IC: Ikarion's eye brow rose at the scuffle between the two men. "He is not in my pay, so he is not my warrior, You are the cook, so the food should be looked at by your professional eye.

Erik Shrieked as he saw the Nord and the Altmer. "Where in blue blazes did those two come from?" Erki stalked off into the town to ask what this was about.

Sig soon had 4 trees felled, all about a foot and a half in diameter and perfectly straight. He stripped them of branches and cut them neatly down to 50 foot lengths.
He retrieved his rope from his pack at the main building and secured it around one of the trees he had cut down. It was extremely heavy, but Sig had spent much of his young life performing physical labour. He formed a harness from the other end of his old rope, looped it around his chest, and began the monumental task of dragging the spruce into the courtyard of the town.

Sig, despite being a man of impressive physical prowess, gave up after about 15 feet. The trees in Skyrim seemed less dense somehow, and the heat here was stifling.

Sig would need the help of a horse or ox.

Sig fetched one of the horses from the stable and another length of rope from his pack. To this rope he did the same as the first, but he left the harness a little wider, and the distance between the harness and log a little shorter.

Sig secured the larger harness around the horse's shoulders, and the smaller one around himself, and together he and the animal made short work of pulling the logs into the settlement.

Sig then fetched his hatchet from the edge of the woods, hacked 2 of the logs roughly in half, and arranged all four in a rectangle roughly in the center of the settlement. This would be the foundation of the noble lodge that was to come.

Sigormund found a shovel in the back of the stable and began to dig inside the frame that he had just set.

he had been working furiously for a while now, and he became aware that people were beginning to gawk at him.
he could understand why, he would be a little confused too if a stranger had come into his town and silently begun a massive undertaking such as this.

Sig dropped his shovel and stepped outside of the spruce lodge frame.

"neighbours," he said hoarsely, struggling to breathe after his afternoon of exertion, "My name is Sigormund Bear-helm. i come from Skyrim to the north. my village is destroyed and this is to be my new home."

"But first, it must be made suitable for habitation. This lodge shall serve as a storehouse, barracks, feast hall, and command center. I ask your aid in its construction."

ooc: sorry i havent posted anything in a while the net was down. :(

ic: Ragnokk trudged through the mud hefting his smithing tools onto his back, he reached in and took out one of his mothers mushrooms. They were large and round, roughly the size of his fist. He had never eaten one before-but then he had never been this cold or hungry before either. The long treck from morrowind had nearly killed him and the only hope he had left was the glimmer of light that he hoped was a settlement up ahead...

I nver thought I'd see the day...Sig you Quadtriple posted

IC: Balim mumbled about the youth of today as he rummaged through the kitchen. There wasn;t much there that could be turned into fine food, but this settlement was in the middle of a forest, seeds, mushrooms and spices wouldn't be hard to come by. He found some deer meat and set it cooking in the oven of the Manor. He opened up a dusty old cabinet to find a small bag of flax seeds. He left the manor and went outside to notice that the Nord warrior was showing off to the peasants. Balim picked up the deer corpse and entered the manor again. He skinned the corpse and took out the organs and bones. This was hard work and its could take weeks for all of the deer to be used. It was a couple of hours later when he finished and pulled the meat out of the oven and sprinkled it with the seeds.

He went outside and got the skin ready for tanning, he then went back in and neatly piled up the bones. He would give them to the Mage/Fletcher to be used as arrows. He also got the Deer's hooves and got them ready to be melted for glue tomorrow. He put the meat and edible organs in the Salt vat for presevation and sighed. That was hard work. Balim open the door a bit and called out "DINNERS READY!" to the people outside building and whatnot. He ordered the maid to lay the table and added some finishing touchs to the meat. After the dinner, he would search the sourrounding area for things to add a bit of flavour to his dishes. He Sampled the meat and picked out the best cut which he put at the top of the table in front of Ikarion's chair. He also told the maid to lay out silver cutlery for Ikarion but Ceramic for everyone else. Balim popped open two bottles of cheap wine and placed them at the table. He would sit next to Ikarion at the head of the table.

He brought out the meat on a large platter and set it in the middle of the table just as the maid finished preparing the cutlery. He waited for the Lord of the Manner to be seated before he would take some meat for himself.

OOC: Sorry, was busy last night, and at work today, didn't get much chance to post...

IC: Genesis looked carefully up and down the young Nord facing him. "Greetings, Sigormund. You are most welcomed here by my word, and I'm sure, equally welcomed by the others. I am Jamar Valthuras, Spymaster of this settlement. I oversee much of the strategic operation of the settlement as well as planning in any other areas related to it, and also act as a scout in this development phase. I am an assassin by trade, but in my time with the Morag Tong and my other employers I gained much experience in scouting and the other skills necessary to a traveling adventurer. You have caught me at a busy moment, so feel free to look around - we will speak more later."

After greeting the newcomer, Genesis walked back to his quarters, and sat down, thinking carefully. Once the settlement was properly established, the Nord would make a good candidate for a guard and scout - part of the team he planned to form as the settlement grew. Making a mental note to speak to him later, he pulled over a blank piece of parchment, quill, and inkwell, and began making more extensive plans to scout the surrounding area and establish small outposts where more development could be done. (OOC: Will submit these when I'm finished.) Also, at a later stage, it might be a good idea to scout out the raider camp, to get a better idea of what they were up against.

With the preliminary plans complete, he left his quarters once again to see the Nord hard at work on a new building. He strode over to him, and spoke. "Greetings once again, Sigormund. I can see you must have plans for this settlement, from the work you're already doing. If you require any maps, strategic reports, or wish for an area to be scouted out for development, consult with Ikarion, and I will gladly be of assistance." He stepped closer to the Nord, then, and spoke in a lower tone. "I am pleased to have someone so enthusiastic about our work here as a resident, and I can tell you are going to be a great driving force here - we need that. Oh, and when you have a free moment, I'd like to speak to you about some other ideas I have for the development." He stepped back again, and spoke to the rest. "Alright settlers, you heard him - there is much to be done here, so anyone who isn't otherwise occupied, help out in whatever manner you can." With that, he walked over to the stables and grabbed another shovel, and continued the digging that Sig had started.

Note:about the map,i didnt do that, lack luster did so im unsure what it is myself the largest building is the main, the second biggest is the sotre house, the smallest is the stable, the smithy has been added.

Ikarion watched the Nord dragging the timber into the settlment and begin working. When the Nord Proposed that wahat he was building would be the main hall Ikarion smiled. "Then the main house will be my manor." he said quietly to himself.

Grakkon Smiled to the other goblins. The rusted Axe in his hand reflected no light. "Dem humans got food." He said to the other dozen or so members of his band. "At night time we will attack." The other goblins bared yellow teeth in a grin.

Balim watched karion enter the room and take his place at the head seat. Balim stood up and cut some of the meat and laid it on Ikarion's plate "I apoligise for this paltry dish, Milord." Balim said "But the ingredients here are sparse, I'll correct that soon though, Don't you worry. Care for some wine?" Balim cut himself his own slab of meat, the second best cut. And poured himself a glass of Cheap wine. "Should we ait for the tohers before we toast, Milord?" Balim asked before he dug in. He was starved and yearned for some food.

Ardion looked over to where the voice had come from and noticed the scent of roasted venison. He left the other Nord to his work on the lodge and walked over. Ardion knocked at the door and asked, "There food in here? These men have been working pretty hard".
