Settlement

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 9:37 am

Dynter, sour that he had been kicked out, sneaked near the warehouse and using magicka, he set it on fire. He then walked off into the forest, leaving the members of the settlement to put it out.

OOC: I'm leaving the RP, seeing as the whole thing seems to be some kind of powertrip for the OP.

OOC: so tell me what the [censored] do you think the Settlement owner would do if some kid poped up out of no where and refused to show him respect. You got a problem with it then leave. its what would happen in TES so im keeping it that way. Oh and Spider pig's last post is null. if he leaves all his posts are void.

Uh...He wasn't really a kid, by human standerds. He was 50.

Also, on the "It would happen in TES" thing, i don't see how you can be sure. I mean, we never got the chance to call someone boss in any of the games, so we don't no. Speculation.

But you said i was kicked out, . And if he was 2000 then he'd either be a lich or a vampire or an extremly powerful necromancer, and i doubt you'd want the likes of that om your property and i don't see how an apology would work, seeing as how he bruned down your warehouse.

OOC - not sure I understand this - the kid (looks to be an elf kid to an elder dunmer like me) was rping as an annoying annoying and purposively so = good rp. That was a challenge.

The owner of the proto settlement decided to kick a highly skilled and dangerous newcomer who had contributed 2 deer to the community larder despite having only half the basic numbers needed to make a go of it. = another challenge.

The kid decided to up the ante by making the owner and the rest of the settlement pay = good rp

The kid's action was both property and life threatening - the guard should have been alerted to the fact that a potentially dangerous newcomer to the community had just been expelled (a big gap in the rp there) and remember I was standing in the shadows outside the community boundaries watching developments unnoted.

It might help if we remembered to read each other's posts and referred to them.

IC raggi sees the owner of the settlement kick the kid out and he moves further back into the shadows shrouding himself with his chameleon spell. Someone like that kid is not too concerned about other people - no knowing how he will react. Shortly after the boss goes inside the kid creeps out of the shadows and starts throwing fireballs at the thatched roof of the warehouse where people are sleeping. Maintaining his chameleon spell Raggi puts his burdens down, grabs a bunch of arrows and sticks them head down in the soil and starts shooting them one after the other at the kid - center chest twice and one head shot in that pattern until they are all in the air, and while the last arrows are still hanging he flings a hold spell that would freeze a charging Kagouti in its tracks and calmly walks up to the kid (unconcerned whether he is alive or dead) and cuts his throat with his belt knife.

Hard words are one thing - but my gear is in that settlement as are other people's. I'm not going to leave a bushwacker alive to set me alight at whim either if I am going to remain in this vicinity. Natural fire resistance is fine , but how can I defend myself when I am asleep?

OOC waiting to know if my arrows hit - and what damage they do I guess - but that's the plan right now.

As a player I quite like the kid's character - but forget harsh - the kid became a deadly enemy. raggi is not too pleased with how the owner handled whatever the trouble was either. Better to call on the authorities than casually make an enemy and leave him around in the vicinity. Besides this is not just a kid - he's a magic-user of unknown potential. Think a kid with a flame-thrower who just used it for a petty grudge.

Actually Spider_pig I hope you will make a new char - assuming this one died - choosing from the list in the OP - but just be a bit careful - after all there is that jumpy guard around too ;)

OOC: i dont think Spider pig will. he takes character actions as my own personal feelings. if spider pig doesnt post damage then lets cal him a pin-cussion

IC:Ikarion came back from the apple orchards. One of the Buildings was ablaze. Frowning deeply he lifted two fingers and closed in on the barn casting a light frost spell on the blazing thatch. The fire began to shrink under the onslaught from the settlers.

OOC: The Guards were notified they were the ones who trough him out. not my faul the guards are slack.

IC:After the fire was contained Ikarion found Jamal's corpse among the rubble. all that was left was her axe. Ikarion frowned at the sight. "Erik come here" Ikarion said in a striaght forward tone. Im promoting you to Captain,Go to the armory and grab Jamel's second set of chain mail if you want." Ikarion frowned at the sight. The crops were beginning to grow. But construction was still needed. And lumber would be low after what he had in mind. Ikarion gathered around the entire settlment. "People if we are to expand our humble settlement we will need more lumber.Today we will grieve for the loss. But tomarrow, we will begin to gather lumber for construction of a fence. so we can keep people out." Ikarion smiled faintly then walked into the Main house.

OOC: Wow look at all the peasants! All we really need is an Armorer and we should make it. Why do we need three guards and a captain though, I think two should be suffice.
IC: Colinion returned to the already struggling settlement to see someone set the barn on fire, the other mage gone, and the the Orc-warrior dead. He was carrying the corpses of a deer he and his dog had hunted, he also brought back three others over that night. He dropped the corpse and walked over to Ikarion. "What the hell happened to this place?"

raggi shuffles up with his load of mushrooms, herbs, tubers and the rabbit. "Umm - the young elf went crazy and threw some fireballs, there was a fire and that poor orc girl died. The poor looney elf won't be any more trouble and there is some extra building to be done ...

It would be nice to have a fence, but if this settlement is to grow it really needs that big building replaced - and we have a lot of work to do replacing the supplies. Everything that was in there will likely be unusable now sera - the forge will be handy - the remains of the swords there can be turned into tools and a ploughshare if there is a smithie's hammer, tongs and other implements. Otherwise we will have to seek out a place we can buy those from. That armour you were talking about - that will need repairing too if it is to be of any use

It's good to see that you have brought in some game - my poor supplies would not last and we will have to hunt and forage hard now.

I suggest that we split our energies between foraging and hunting for game and such and also start creating small plots where we can plant vegetables both for now and to provide food for the winter ahead.

The vegetable plots can have earthen walls faced with stone to protect them from the weather and the stone will soak up and reflect sunlight to keep them warmer - hard work that, but we will need more than one crop this year. The stone can come from the fields we will be ploughing once we have the proper tackle - I hope those horses are good for that? And the horse manure will enrich the earth. I have a small store of seeds for my purposes, but they will nmot be enough to feed so many people so we will have to be careful we do not gather all the vegetables we come accross - many will have to be allowed to seed and the seed harvested - but we will have to buy in fertile seed from the nearest town or village along with whatever we cannot make here ourselves.

Now maybe you people would like to find out what skills people have that could be useful here? ... and get the division of labour sorted and tasks assigned - without planning and sensible leadership this settlement will not last a year.

Meanwhile I think we need to know a lot more about this part of the Province - a map would be useful - the hunters and forragers might add detail from their hunts and searches."

Turning to Ikarion. "Apparently we have an Imperial Battlemage in our midst - quite astonishing that given how the Battlespire was destroyed at the time of the Dragonbreak - a lot longer than any human I have heard about has lived. Last surviving Battlemages (if he could be called that) would be that unknown warrior who brought out the news from the Battlespire and Jagar Tharn. No Battlespire = no more training - so I suppose you style yourself after the Battlemages of old - very impressive that.

There's an orchard of some sort growing over that way is there? Will the saplings start fruiting this year?"

Sell steps forward first at the mention if labor assingments, "I'm not great at constuction, never was handy with tools. Farming is more of my thing, my Ma always said I had a green thumb."

"No problem with the game, its what I'm here for. Guess I should get mapping now, knowing the area will be a good thing." Colinion whistled for his dog and grabbed some paper. "I'm no cartographer, but I've seen it done before." He heads off into the woods, looking for landmarks.

OOC: This isn't going to die. I have plans.

Genesis, after helping out with extinguishing the fire, called Ikarion back to his spymaster's quarters. Once the door was fastened, he sat down. "We seem to have a problem, and I believe I must take some responsibility. I'm going to set up a law and order system for newcomers to the settlement - we are not yet established enough to be able to take any more of a risk than doing that." He reached over his desk and pulled a quill, inkwell and a blank piece of parchment over. Once the quill was ready, he began writing slowly and methodically. "I'm going to fill out all the basic requirements first, and then you can add anything else you think is appropriate. Then we can get the scribe to write it out, and make it available to all here. "

* * *

All newcomers will be subject to the hierarchy present at the moment in this settlement. Ikarion, our leader, has full jurisdiction over any matter, and his powers supercede those of any other official or person of power in the settlement. You will follow his orders, and treat him with respect. This goes for whomever else may come to lead the settlement in time.

For the first few days of a newcomer's residence here, he or she will unconditionally accept that he or she will be watched by myself, the Spymaster, in order to ascertain his or her true intentions. If I find you worthy of my, and our, trust, you will be left in peace.

If any newcomer, or resident, is found to be contravening the basic rules of residence in this settlement (these will be further elaborated by the captain of the guard), he or she will be subject to a punishment deemed fitting by the captain of the guard, and Ikarion, whether that be permanent exile, or death.

(These rules should include - damage to property, assault, murder, theft, fraud, etc., conspiracy to commit any of the aforementioned, etc.)

*Ikarion, fill in here*

This is to be deemed as law throughout the confines of this settlement, and applies to any and all of its residents and guests.

Signed,

Jamar Valthuras, Spymaster
(Ikarion sign here)

Genesis put the quill back in the well, and slid the parchment over to Ikarion. "Add what you see fit."

OOC:Faldom are you still in? So its: Aulakauss,Faldom,1999,Myself,and mana...that should be good we just might have to double role.

IC:Ikarion over looked the parchment and grinned. "Very good Genisis,I'll take this into my chambers and add my name, then post it up on the main building later." Ikarion nodded then left the room. Ikarion frowned at the settlement. He walked over to the partialy destroyed store house. Ikarion shuffled through the ashes and found an axe. He hefted it over his shoulder and walked into the woods and begin taking his frustrations out on some trees.

...snip...

OOC we seem to have about 9 members in theory - I'm interested to see what they are about. Anyways I'm not too bothered about leavers - this is not the usual rp here and some will find it strange. The more we have mapped the more we can relate to our surroundings and I feel that is what this is about - more living the life - as in mods like Crafty Bits. In this it will be the player's adjustment to and description of life in the settlement that will give the adventures we come accross that little bit more impact.

Some kind of description of this new settlement - planned fields etc would be useful to be going on with - both for our mapper/s and farmers and so we know what supplies we will be able to count on later in the year - assuming this is spring. Not a good idea to start a settlement in the autumn.

IC raggi philosophically notes a couple of members, doubtless unable to cope with the violence and trajedy of the previous night, have left the Settlement. Well good luck to them. After all they were peasants - ordinary people unused to the kind of events that a new settlement can throw up. They ought to try life on the road for a few months where entire communities assume that any wanderer is automatically suspicious, likely a danger to them and their families and in any case not really not up to their standards and therefore deserving of whatever nastiness takes their fancy - that would really be an eye-opener for them.

He begins hanging and smoking his rabbit and making the preparations for his much delayed breakfast. Skinning and gutting the rabbit he puts the fur carefully to one side to scraqe and treat once he has eaten. Once the rabbit is gently being smoked instead of settling down in the comfort of his shelter he goes to look around the settlement to see what is in the various buildings and what will be immediately useful. Most especially he wants to see where the two deer that the arsonist caught are hung - they could not be in the warehouse - not with people sleeping in there!

And he remembers at the last minute to take the fresh mushrooms to give to whoever will be cooking - or to add to the contents of the (hopefully temporary) storage space.

As raggi starts his amble around the remaining buildings he sees a notice is up on the main building's door and a newcomer strolls into view - tallest dunmer he ever saw or heard of. The newcommer makes for the forge. Plenty of time to get to know his new neighbour later. There is no sign of the supplies and no one has gone for more so raggi decides to go hunting. He gathers the necessary, and slips away.

ooc: I'm still in
Colinion walked back into to town to see another newcomer, an armorer. He was very lanky for an armorer, considering most were rather large, and he was was almost as tall as Colinion. Colinion was going to greet him, but he decided he still had more mapping to do today in order to get as much done as he wanted. So he refilled his canteen with water, gave some water to his dog. And went straight back to the wilderness for some mapping.
