Settlement "themes"...

Post » Wed Dec 02, 2015 8:35 pm

I was wondering if you can change the "theme" of a settlement, or how the people act/look like in it.

For example, if I wanted to set up a more technology based settlement, would I have the option of making things not incredibly ramshackle? Or if I wanted to set up a cannibal-type settlement, could I have dead bodies and body parts hanging around, and maybe have all the people dressed and act accordingly? Or maybe have a ghoul settlement? Out of all the shots I've seen so far (which isn't THAT much to be honest) seem to all be similar. I'm not complaining at all, just wondering!

I feel if that was a feature then they would of showed us it earlier so no I don't think it's a thing. Maybe a DLC later on.

MODS I have no idea why that duplicated sorry.

Yeah, I agree, but I figured I'd ask anyway. That'd be a cool DLC or mod though, it'd be awesome to have a slaver settlement or a "psycho cannibal" settlement!

We can't really be too sure until we get our hands dirty with it.

I'm liking this idea of themes, but can't substantiate if there is any, but would be a welcome addition to the game.

Same thing happened to me Pudge, just a connection failure nothing to worry about.

This definitely sounds like the sort of thing a modder will make, if it's possible.

I seem to remember from the E3 video that you could potentially design some elaborate settlements. (although I don't remember anything about themes).

I would be really interested to know how you can populate the settlement, and control it. Also, I seem to remember somewhere you could build more than one and "link" them in some way.

I hope so. You'd think that after 210 years, people would learn how to build a structure that doesn't appear as if it were an afterthought.

You may be able to indirectly do this. You can probably choose to place "decorations" like corpses and heads-on-spikes and such around the place, or if you want a more civilized approach, clean up all the random debris, etc. And as for your settlers, you MIGHT be able to steal all their default clothes and items and leave high-tech armor and devices or Pre-War clothing around and maybe they'd change into it --- sometimes, in some of these games, NPCs will pick up stuff you leave lying around.

If all else fails, then, yes, I'm sure modders will somehow make this work.

But you also have to remember the technology you are using to build up your settlement. According to the game none of us are master craftsmen and barely know how to use a hammer and nail, so therefor the buildings appear ramshackle accordingly. Also, the supplies that is going to be most present in game ie: dated wood( radiation, weather, rotting), cenderblocks, tires, scrap metal from cars, old housing furniture etc.

From everything shown in the leaks and e3 footage, the only styles available are 'ramshackle with wooden walls' or 'ramshackle with metal walls'.

You also can't craft clean furniture, or anything like that. Everything you build for the Settlements looks like it was found in the trash, patted dry, and then thrown in a heap to create a 'house'.

Now, all of that stuff has been early-game crafting - it's vaguely possible that fancier things are available, but you need to go out and find recipes or something to do so. But I really doub tit.
