Settlements being raided

Post » Sat Jan 16, 2016 6:58 pm

Dunno about you , but whenever my settlements get raided, extremely brief messages comes up, then disappears before I can read it !!

Then I get another message later that I have failed to defend the settlements - again very brief.

Is there a setting I can change to allow these messages to be displayed so we can read them during gameplay ?

Unfortunately, there's no way of changing the way the notifications display. The best you can do is change the color of the HUD in hopes of it being more noticeable. The notification system really needs to be more clearly obvious. There have been several times I've just missed notifications and ended up failing to defend a settlement that I didn't even know was in need of help.

If you are playing on a console, then there is nothing you can do.

If you are playing on a PC, then there is a mod for it. I recommend you install the NexusModManager (NMM) before installing mods.

I think we all have this issue. Should be fixed sooner than later. In the meantime, here are some suggestions:

1. Take a speed reading course.

2. Record your game play. When a message flashes on the screen, pause the game to review your recorded game.

3. Never respond to these notices. Let everyone die.

Hope this helps.

I always catch the message, you failed to protect one of your highly fortified settlements. But I never catch the... one of your settlements is being pillaged!

Every time I fast travel and open my Pipboy I look at my quest list for attacks so I never miss one. Which made it even more frustrating when I went to Sanctuary yesterday and every [censored] thing broke in front of me. No attack. No message. Every [censored] thing broken.

Sanctuary got attack. The settlers did not take any notice just pulling out weed in the watermelon patch. No lost to NPC's said for raiders.

Now NPC's have armour, weapons and ammo. I have two npc's manning barricades and two turrets.

Knowing my luck npc's will be attack from the other way.

Thanks for your comments on this - Seems Bethesda needs to get an update on this in-game message system soon !!

If we cannot read the messages, then we'll not enjoy the game as much !!

Might give a bearing whenever the various expansions are produced.

If you don't have any active quest markers the attack will place one, so if you are not doing quests immediately turn them off and you can notice the quest marker rather than relying on the quest message, which is brief.

I have never not noticed an attack because when I am busy exploring and doing things that take more than a day I don't have my quests turned on, so the quest to defend the settlement appears and automaticly becomes the active quest pointing to the settlement in question.

I also have gotten into the habit of checking my miscellaneous quests especially before fast travel.

Or, faling that, hitting F5 before fast travel. But also, I rarely fasttravel, so this has not been a burden for me.
