Settlements - Will You Rebuild?

Post » Tue Dec 01, 2015 9:38 pm

Some people are dubious as to how popular the settlement building feature will be in FO4, so I thought I'd take a little informal poll to see what the forum users thought about it. Assuming that the settlement feature is reasonably well implemented (or that the bugs will be mostly fixed either by Bethesda or the Modding Community), do you plan to rebuild the wasteland?

You probably won't "rebuild" it. You'll build something new out of the old, appropriate for the new age. Even Shady Sands is all adobe and flintstones windows, not cottages and picket fences.

Yes I will build at least one settlement, even it is only meant to be a personal fort with enough people for trade.

Who knows if I like it enough I might run though a few settlement ideas.

Don't think my first character will do much. Maybe dabble just enough for a home towards end game.

I'll probably make a dedicated builder and community leader (well, some kind of "community") for a second play. Unless everyone says it's a waste of time, of course.

My first play through I'll likely dabble in it just to see what kind of storage facilities I can make for myself for storing loot. However I do plan to go all out with it later and see what possibilities there are.

Yes! While I'm not expecting to "rebuild the wasteland", I am excited that I will get to create my own bases of operations. Im really hoping for some cool texture mods we can download to give our settlements unique looks!

Yes on some characters, No on others. Depends on the character I am playing and how it actually works in the game.

I've always wanted this feature for fallout. I had a conversation with a friend a couple of years ago. My idea was a settlement scenario with defenses & his idea was being able to play games on the pip-boy, both of which have remarkably come to life which I'm very excited for. Well done todd & all at bethy!

Of course i'll use it! It's one of the main reasons why I'm buying the game!

I'm very excited for the feature. One the things that kind of bugged me about FO3 was that the only real interaction/effect you could have on a town/settlement was destroying it. You could blow up Megaton, you could gut Tenpenny Tower, and of course you could straight up murder everyone in any area if you felt like it (and were capable). But you never really got to have a positive effect, aside from "yay, you're not all dead."

Not really sure. It might be something I try late in my first play through or in my second.

I'll use it but won't go very far with it besides building a nice little shack for myself.

This doesn't need to be reduced to an "either/or" proposition. It can be "and/and."

I plan to use settlements and mod them (including making my own player houses). After all, using Bethesda's houses in Oblivion, Fallout 3 and Skyrim didn't prevent me from also modding my own houses in those games.

I will certainly build myself a house/base/Republic Of Dave. Not sure if I'll go whole-hog "manage settlements & trade routes".

I'll definitely make use of the settlement option. However, if the player takes a cavalier attitude about defending settlements, there should be a very real possibility of the settlement being destroyed or taken over by the bad guys- at least on the most difficult game setting. If the player can build a wall, the bad guys should be able to pull it down, scale it, or breach it. The player has mortars? Then at some point in the game, some ruthless but enterprising raider leader should be able to pull off the same thing against a player settlement.

I am looking forward to this and dreading it at the same time.

Fully expect after a week of real time working on it, with many curses, tears and start overs.... I will make a shack I am very proud off..... then I will get on the internet and see what everyone else has done. Of course "their" thriving towns will be jaw droppingly cool. And so once again will be driven to the bottle drinking until I convince myself its the world that svcks not me.

yep

My character's main goal will be to make the world a safe place to live in again, which means both wiping any threat to humanity off the face of the earth and building a safe place for them to live.

For the record, if they came out with Fallout: Sims or Sims: Fallot, I'd probably play it. Preferably with it being more like Sims 3 than Sims 4.
