Settlers stealing my goodies....

Post » Tue Jan 19, 2016 3:33 am

I found a nice Giddyup Buttercup and Flight Recorder that I had on display in my room in the castle and they are now gone... I'd like to stay in the castle as I can have all of my benches, etc available and it's a nice setup.

Is there ANY way to stop people from going into a certain room? I bought the Home Plate on a separate gave save just to check it out and I don't like that it's so limited

I'd rather see an option to secure a room so my items won't be stolen. :|

Does this happen to other people?

I am fairly certain I had a 10 mm pistol stolen from self made house footlocker. Yep.

The only way is to put some kind of obstacle between them and wherever your stuff is. Like a solid wall, or even making it so a jump is needed to get up to it.

I don't think your stuff is getting stolen, I think it's falling down where you can't see it.

I put a shack up on top of the Red Rocket building and sat a bunch of stuff around. Whiskey bottles, pool cue's, fan's. After a few times of travelling and coming back I found most if it stuck halfway in the pool table, floor, bar, and the rest I found laying on the floor of the shop below.

If you are putting your stuff somewhere that has no 'underneath' that you can get to then it probably fell through whatever you had it on and it's gone forever. This is a known bug in the game.

I've never had anything stolen from a container ever.

If it were a weapon, the settlers might take it if the place was under attack, but they don't bother with junk items. Your decorations are sinking into whatever surfaces they were on and possibly into the floor below the world. There's a chance that the items could reappear again somewhere in the area, but I've had items sink to where I couldn't get to them and I have never found them. I just keep all my potential decorations in a chest in hopes that Bethesda will fix the bug.

If you're on the PC use this mod for decorating - http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/4270/?.

I'm pretty sure they don't take stuff from containers. I've yet to have any of the weapons, food, armor or meds in castle get taken and I keep them all in containers.

I have seen Companions parked in such locations pull weapons from the workbench when the place was under attack.
I suspect settlers will do so as well.

That elevator mod may actually be a way to put such containers out of reach as well.

I have food on shelves in the kitchen, pots and pans everywhere, dishes in a cabinet and nuka cola bottles in the fridge. The settlers don't touch any of it. I even made noodle cups and set them on the metal shelves. They won't even take those.

I don't think your settlers are stealing stuff.

I had collected 3 mr handy models I had put on a table at my Red Rocket settlement. They disappeared. I checked around but there was no trace of them. Is there a way to recover them?

I have built my main base at red rocket as I was able to build on the canopy and then remove the stairs up so a jet pack is required to reach the entrance, upon fast travelling back there (when it had settlers, they have since been shipped off elsewhere) I found settlers using the workbenches in my elevated structure despite them having no path to get there. So building high is no guarantee they can't reach your equipment

Sounds like items are loaded before the surface they stand on, this was an problem in Oblivion and the steward in Skingrad, he would be loaded before the castle bridge causing the poor orc to fall to his death. Yes its stupid, solution should be to first load everything then turn on gravity and AI.

Might also wonder if Fallout 4 has Skyrim's item bug, its an very anoying bug where items dropped and moved goes back to the first dropped location on cell reload.

Both might be very hard to mod out. its also unlikely to be patched, just making the steward essential would solve the problem for Skingrads house.

That happened to me I had my chem shack all decked out with odds and ends and came back everything was gone, then i start to hear a rattling sound. Well anyways i had to move the floor and everything was there under the concrete foundation. This also happened in my gun store everything was all over the place like a typhoon came inside. Kinda lame to spend a lot of time decorating if it gets all messed up a couple returns later.

Yep. I've read from different sources that this works. Put your stuff in a place where you need to jump over a gap to get to. Npcs can't jump so they can never reach that place to take your items.

Never got stolen.

But they always steal my bed in my crib no matter how many times I show them where their beds are.

They aren't stealing stuff, it's a weird disappearing glitch. Sometimes you will find your stuff on the floor or in another room.

Beth struggled with item placement in Skyrim as well.

The settlers are extremely annoying though. There should be some way to keep them from meandering into your personal space or crawling into bed with you.

Gotta love the havoc system so called because it plays havoc with your nerves. :bonk:

Makes me wonder on Bethesda's thought process of giving us so much loot to decorate with and making it pretty much impossible to place anything.

I'll try adding a knee high block infront of the door to my room in the castle. The Buttercup model was on the stock floor and it's no where to be found. I have Nuka Cola Quantum bottles stored on a dresser with no problems as well as gold bars, vault tech lunchboxes.

I'm on the Xbox One so the mod won't work.

This wont work, I've tried it, I made a room without doors with my generator in right by the unscrappable pump at the Red Rocket. I made the room because my settlers were just standing there all the time for some unknown reason. People keep spawning inside, obstacles don't stop them at all, I had to put a door there just to get to them or so they can get out, not that they do, they just stand there.

They take magazines from my rack and never put them back again!!

They sometimes actually take items out of containers, I found a settler carrying a bunch of my legendary weapons!! They were definitely mine because they were missing form my chest of drawers. This happen to anyone else?? Just helping themselves, I wouldn't mind but I gave all of my settlers weapons, ammo and armour, I'm just nice like that!

It's advisable to have all of your valuable or cherished items at a settlement with no settlers, just you.

Can you not just build an elevated private area which is only accessible via a staircase. When you want to gain access to your 'bat cave' Just build a staircase & when you leave remove the staircase. Bit of a small hassle but might work.

There really should be an 'out of bounds' option so you can designate an area or room/hut just to yourself and nobody will go in there, you can't even assign yourself to a bed so nobody else uses it, I also found that a lot of the time if you sleep in a bed that is assigned to someone else, they often stop using it and you have to re-assign them. But there are people starving out there so I'm not going to loose sleep over it :P

I got tired of fast travelling to RR and having to climb the stairs to the house I built on top of the garage, so I decided to put one of those 'Fast Travel' welcome mats at the front door. I haven't seen anyone in there since I did that. I don't know if it's coincidence or what.

I agree. I this is one of those high priority fixes that needs to come asap.

I discovered something regarding Brahmin. If you put up a 'Trading Caravan Post' the Brahmin will go nuts trying to get to the feeding trough. They will keep mooing and getting stuck in the concrete blocks and it's really annoying.

Just create a 'Brahimin Feed Trough' near the 'Trading Caravan Post' in your settlement and the Brahmin will calm down. They'll still get inside the post area from time to time but the nonstop mooing stopped when I did this.

I love having one of those trade caravan posts at my RR settlement. Saves me from having to go to another place all the time.

Are you sure they aren't falling and getting under the rack? The spinning magazine rack is bugged in my opinion. It doesn't matter how few I have on it, eventually I'll walk by and find them laying on the floor and under it.

I started using the solid wooden mag racks and even those are bugged until you figure out how to use them. You can place 1 more mag than the rack can hold before you get a message that it can't hold anymore. When I do that I find them laying all around. But if I put only the amount on there that are able to be displayed they won't fall off.
