Seventeen Daedric Princes, seventeen forms of Khajiit

Post » Sat Sep 17, 2011 10:43 am

Like the title says, do you think there's a connection? Obviously Azurah gave the Khajiit their forms, so there's already a Daedric connection, but is this even important? I mean, do the Khajiit even bother making a difference between Aedra and Daedra? They worship Alkosh, Jone and Jode alongside Sheggorath, after all.

Let's say for argument's sake, yes, the Khajiit make a point of differentiating between Aedra and Daedra. What's the significance of the number 17? Or what about 16? Was the Mane's assassination, for example, somehow tied to Jyggalag and Sheogorath splitting? Once there were 16 Daedra and 17 Khajiit, and then the Fourth Era comes along, and now there's 17 Daedra but only 16 Khajiit (for a while, anyway).

Ideas?

I'd just say I wouldnt say Khajiit from Elsweyr wouldn't bother making a distinction between Aedra and Daedra.

I'd be interested to hear others thoughts on the rest of your questions

I think the first Pocket Guide said there were over 20, but it also said there were over 20 kingdoms that were merged into Elsweyr (don't quote me, I know I read this somewhere, but it's late and I'm tired). So I just assumed that the Pocket Guide mistook the different Khajiit "nationalities" for "breeds", in classic ignorant Imperial style.

But there's only 17 lunar phases, so I don't really see how there could be more Khajiit breeds than that.

But there's only 17 lunar phases

There's 16 lunar phases according to http://imperial-library.info/content/khajiit-physiology-phases-and-forms, though the PGE1E claims "[o]ver twenty forms have been documented". It also says: "A Mane can be born only under a rare alignment of Masser and Secunda when, according to legend, a third moon appears in the sky." Though the Mane isn't technically a separate form, perhaps this unseen "third moon" can have an effect on the forms, and/or the actual alignment of the two moons can play a part, not just the phase.

I thought Manes came from eclipses.

Anyway. The lunar lattice guards against oblivion* and there are 16 known realms, so the lattice has 16 parts, with 16 corresponding types of Khajiit. There's an indirect chain of causes.

Maybe then the manes are created on the rare occasions when the moons have to guard against magnus?

* "Azurah spoke the First Secret to the Moons and they parted and let Azurah pass" -words of clan mother Ahnussi. Implies the moons would normally keep daedra out
