Severa Magia and the Night Mother

In Morrowind, Severa Magia, a target of the Morag Tong, is identified as the Night Mother of the Dark Brotherhood and is killed. In Oblivion, the Night Mother is a spirit. You figure out the rest.

Any comments?

Other than that, here's a simple answer: The title of Night Mother takes many forms at once. The first that come to mind are: Mephala acting under the guise of the "Night Mother", on Nirn as an avatar (such as the Oblivion ghost and what powers the altars) or a mortal assassin taking the title of Night Mother as a sign of rank (Severa Magia and the old woman from the Thieve's guild). There are other instances, but these are the two most commonly brought up. That other thread goes into more detail, and I can later, if you still want to use this thread.

EDIT: Oh, and if you are trying to get at Severa being the ghost in Oblivion, please note that the ghost is a Dunmer while Severa was an Imperial.

Yeah I believe the Night Mother in Cyrodill is just a powerful servant of Mephala or an avatar of her, and that the shrine to "Sithis" is actually a Mephala shrine for that matter. Mephala as an entity represents a duality of sorts. It's a bit beyond my full comprehension but I do realize she's Daedra and they enjoy toying with mortals. What better way to amuse herself than to cause a schism in the Morag Tong, placing two guilds of assassins against one another despite them actually worshiping the same entity under different guises?

As for Severa Magia, the old lady from the book in Oblivion, and the dark lady Sotha Sil talked to in 2920 - just mortal women taking on the name.

It's odd, however, the connection between Sotha Sil and the Night Mother. Think about it. He's the one that went to meet her in 2920 and negotiate - and the Vvardenfell branch of the Dark Brotherhood had their hideout at Ald Sotha, the ancestral house seat of House Sotha. Ald Sotha, strangely, doesn't contain a shrine to Mephala but to Mehrunes Dagon. Perhaps Sotha Sil's old House was a Mehrunes Dagon cult of some sort? That could explain his ability to negotiate with the Bad Daedra.

I don't mean to necro the thread, but I found [post='http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Threads_of_the_Webspinner']this "quest".[/post]Mephala herself does not give it to you,but it seems Eno has been contacted by her and you have to do the dirty work(You also get a reward in the form of a spell from, presuambly,Mephala herself which I'd think is a big deal). As far I can tell, you cannot do the quest without killing Severa Magia - is the quest simply a ploy so she can kill the heretic Severa and a few other enemies?

If I'm right, does that reinforce the idea OB's Night Mother is/is related to Mephala?

I've always seen it more as wanting to punish the Morrowind Dark Brotherhood from moving away from worship of and killing for money instead of for her. Unfortunately, details of what happened are lacking.

To me, making your loyal worshipers kill each other for your own amusemant to be more up Boethiah's alley.
