Several Mods Apparently Not Working

Post » Tue May 03, 2011 7:06 am

Hello everyone,

I've recently been reinstalling and remodding Oblivion, but I seem to have run into a rather annoying issue. No matter how many mods I install, it looks like some of them just refuse to function like they're supposed to. The most noticable are the quest delayers, including SM Plugin Refurbished. At first I thought my alternate start was the culprit, but I tried with the vanilla start, Immediate Char Gen, Alternate Start by Ship, and the latest by Arthmoor, but that didn't help. So I reinstalled the game again, and started mod by mod, but still they don't work.

Here's my LO if it helps:

Make sure the game is patched to 1.2.0416. Most mods won't work w/o it.

I've just checked, and it's completely patched. I've got the Steam GOTY edition if it makes any difference.

I have the Steam version so I can say that you should be fully patched. One thing I will ask is if you have OBSE correctly installed. You need the steam_loader.dll as well as the other three files installed into the oblivion directory. Also under Steam Settings have you got Enable Steam Community In-Game under the In Game tab ticked? If this isn't ticked then OBSE will not initialize and so all the mods that rely on it will not work.

Right, so I reinstalled OBSE 20b5, got the initialization message, but my delayers still don't work. Not even the Tears of the Fiend delayer, which doesn't even rely on OBSE.

So, I did some more testing, and even moving SM Plugin Refurbished to the place before or after my bashed patch doesn't make it work, which seems very odd to me. I also downgraded OBSE to v19, but that didn't work either. I'm starting to think something might be wrong with Wrye Bash, but I don't have a clue on how to check for that.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Did you install Steam itself in C:\Program Files on accident?

Guess number two: Have you tried disabling anti-virus software, or adjusting the settings your anti-virus program has? Some of them act like UAC.

Third guess: Did you place a check in the OBSE enabled box in Wrye Bash? I have overlooked this doing a reinstall.

Which version of Wrye Bash are you using? Also, have you checked off all the appropriate categories and their contents within the Bashed Patch, the last time you rebuilt it?

I'm using Wrye Bash 291 at the moment, which should be the latest.

I think it might have to do with steam, but there is no enable OBSE checkbox in my install. There is in my Wrye Flash for Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas though.

It normally means that Wrye Bash can't find OBSE, so it thinks you don't have it. That may give you a clue about where the installation's gone wrong. Possibilities are that something's installed a level further down than it should be (e.g. in Data when it should be up in the Oblivion folder) or vice versa.

Alright, so I checked that out, but Wrye Bash was installed in the right directory, but I reinstalled it nontheless. The OBSE checkbox is still not there. I don't think that's the problem though, because when I start the game, I do get the "OBSE Initialized" message. For some reason some plugins just don't seem to work like they're supposed to, not even when I load them after my bashed patch.

There is no checkbox for OBSE in Wrye Bash, so don't worry about that. I was concerned that you'd properly checked off every box in your Bashed Patch that was required to get certain mods functioning. For example, I'm running the MMM-Cobl.esp. It has bashed tags for Delev and Invent, and if these aren't properly checked under those two areas in the Bashed Patch, the mod isn't loaded.

Also, when it does load correctly, it has a + sign, rather than a checkmark, from the main Wrye Bash mods screen. Some mods that load correctly through the Bashed Patch will instead give you a "." (to simplify things greatly). If they're checked off instead of having that + or ., the mods they refer to are not functioning. The way to tell that they may require something other than the checkmark is the color of the mod's text in Wrye Bash. Look for light green, or purple.

For the sake of solving this, I'm not getting into the details of what any of the bashed patches and colors mean right here. I hope you don't mind. :)

Reinstalled Wrye Python 0.3a, still no luck. Thanks for the suggestion though, hadn't though of that myself. :)

Thanks for the effort, fable2 :tops:

I did indeed check for different colours, but the only thing that was slighty off was the grey background for SM Plugin Refurbish, but not for the other delayers. All the plugins that I've integrated into my bashed patch are green and have a + next to them, so that should be fine. There are also a few with a . , so those should be fine as well. At first I thought there might be something wrong with that, Et in Arkay Ego delayer is one of the integrated ones, which doesn't work, but SM Plugin Refurbish is not integrated, but also doesn't work. So, that's probably not it either.

The light gray isn't an issue. But are all the mods' bashed tags appropriately checked off when you choose to rebuild the Bashed Patch?

I don't see anybody having asked if you've used BOSS, either.

Yup, and yup. I've got all the tags checked off, except for a few because of FCOM. And I run BOSS before I rebuild my bashed patch everytime.

I've got one, down in the status bar with the quick launch buttons. I can't remember if it's the green box or the pink one, but it's the one that isn't Auto-quit. http://wryemusings.com/Wrye%20Bash.html#LaunchButtons

It's there for me as well, and probably for him as well now we know what you are talking about. But for the Steam version that is immaterial since obse is not launched that way. In the steam version it's launched automatically on launching the game as long as Enable Steam Community In-Game is ticked in Steam Settings. And as he has reported obse is working for him. This is a really strange issue and since I don't use the Bashable Delayers I'm not much help. Does anyone know a good Summon Aellis spell?

Just a quick heads up, if I add the obse_launcher.exe to my oblivion folder, the checkbox does appear, but like Artorius said, it's not how obse for steam is launched.

I already had that in my oblivion folder since when installing some obse mods via OBMM, OBMM checks for that file and when it doesn't find it fails to install the mod even though you have installed the correct files for the steam version. It's possible that this could have something to do with it or with BAIN install as well (if you used that). I would suggest to try to install those mods again now since they might well rely on that file as well.
