Severe lag in buildings on and Constitution, PC version

Post » Mon May 11, 2009 1:26 am

I will explain this as best I can: I am having severe lag now that I am on the USS Constitution. The lag is so bad that I simply cannot play. And the lag is not limited to trying to play the game; the whole computer slows down, and it takes me a few minutes just to quit out of the game. I saw this same lag, just less severe, in an earlier level of the game, but only while I was in a KPA building. What else is odd is that when I look at the processes in Task Manager, I keep seeing a process called TrustedInstaller.exe that is taking up a fair bit of CPU. This one fact is what has led me to the forums for help.
Miscellaneous info: I am running 64-bit Vista, I am running on generally high settings for graphics as that is what the Optimal settings are according the game itself, and I am running Crysis, not Crysis Wars or Crysis WARHEAD. And, fwiw, I've disabled the HP Digital Monitor service while playing the game.
Thanks for any help.

Just wondering, did you get a legitimate version of Crysis?

That level of Crysis is particularily heavy on computers... Can you give us your computer specs and how many frames per second you get on that level? You may have to dial down the graphics a little bit or force the game to run in DirectX9.

It is a legitimate (and registered) version of Crysis. A couple of updates:
1) I had a global setting of "Very High", not High. Taking it to Medium did seem to get the game back to working.
2) My question is now changed to: Does anybody else have experience with TrustedInstaller kicking in at specific points in the game, especially at High or Very High settings? (And yes, my NVidia drivers are up to date.)

Yes, very high is probably the issue unless you are using a multi-GPU setup. :)

Very High is not really enjoyable to play at unless you are just taking screenshots with it... It's kinda the SuperComputer setup that Crytek had in mind for that setting.

I do not know what TrustedInstaller is... sounds foreign to me.

TrustedInstaller is a Microsoft service that is required for normal operation of the system. It should, however, only be running when you're installing something: http://www.mydigitallife.info/2007/11/11/trustedinstallerexe-process-100-high-cpu-usage-in-vista-task-manager-fix/

See if that helps :)

The Stutters happen to more People (Including Me) while they where able to play the game with everything on Verry High with out any problems before, they get the stutters now...
It seems to be SLI related since ive only seen reports of it on SLI Systems with 2x Geforce 8 or 9 series cards (G9x GPU) and the Latest nVidia drivers (its also affecting other games)

So someone else already asked but i ask again:
What are your System Specs?

TrustedInstaller might be popping up at times because of some dumb software checking for Updates, probably junk HP installed on there.
