Sewer's in Skyrim?

Post » Sun Sep 04, 2011 10:36 pm

For realism's sake with the new game engine's capabilities...if sewers are included they should: A) Be filled with methane gas which will explode if there are any sparks/open flame (like torches), and B) If it is a sewer system for human waste, it should also be filled with ammonia fumes. (The player should take constant damage the longer they are in the sewers.)

Yeah, a "don't care" option would've been nice. I would've selected that, because in the other games, the sewers seemed rather pointless and didn't really have much sewage in them. Which would imply whatever gamesas wants. Buuut, the polls are made by users who have some bias, or just didn't think of all the options people might choose.

I didn't like the Vivec/Mournhold sewers, I didn't like the Imperial City sewers. Most boring part about the whole series tbh :/

They are pretty boring and i don't want to spend much time in them, but they should be there for immersion's sake.

What's the point of sewers, if there are no toilets in the game? I have always wondered...

A place to pour your bucket of excrement.

I loved sewers. Perfect place for a child of the night to hide out and have fun in the day

When they had toilets, that'd be true, but when towns/cities were at the bucket stage, they typically just tossed it out the window on whomever was walking below. The sewers could've been to carry water from storm drains, I suppose, but I don't think they had storm drainst without having paved roads and by that time, cities had toilets.

As to a place to hide out, it'd be nice if you could get an actual place down there as a home if you were a vampire or whatever.

I'm well aware of ye olde "toiletry" you shouldn't put earthly logic on something that isn't earth. It isn't hard to believe that in a reality of magic and elves that they wouldn't have underground networks not only to dispose waste. Human/alchemical. But have a network to move about the city. It's not much of a leap especially in a world were throwing magical ingredients out your window would be quite dangerous.

Yeah, since they have magic and whatever, why not incinerate the waste with a fireball spell, or better yet, create a "teleport garbage to the Black Marshes" spell and save the trouble of building a set of generally useless tunnels? If they can afford to build sewer systems, I'm sure they could get rid of the honeypots and build a few toilets. I don't know about you, but I can imagine that even non-"Earthly" (that is capitalized, by the way, unless you're talking about dirt...) people would rather have a toilet than a bucket of crap inside their houses. I guess it's possible that the idea of inventing a toilet hasn't struck anyone in all of Cyrodiil and Vvardenfell/Morrowind throughout their histories. Or perhaps they have a "beam the poo straight out of people's innards into thin air" spell that's triggered by a magical button that can be purchased at the corner store for a few coins and is installed in their houses. That way one presses it when they have the urge and they save on toilet paper.

Dunno, many small leaps.

Haha...yeah, totally. That was like my last car camping (non-backpacking) trip with the asphyxiating pit toilets that were filled with ammonia fumes and uh, other smells. I thought I was going to vomit a bunch of times. I'd rather dig a hole and heed the call of nature out there, but unfortunately that wasn't allowed. :) Sewers would be almost as bad unless they had good ventilation.

I'm so, so tired of spending half of my RPG life in various sewers... In fact any game that has no sewers as a dungeon has my sincere thanks. But I think Skyrim will have some, most of the games do, it's on pair with giant rat and dragons of some kind :D

Apostrophe + S implies ownership/possession. What is the "Sewer" possessing, or owning in this thread title?
:P Just had to get that in there.

We were all thinking it.

Instead of "giant rat," they could always call the "R.O.U.S.es." Or mix it up a bit and replace the giant rats with uh, capybaras!

Given all the opportunities there will apparently be for humble tradeswork in Skyrim, it would be a pity if we didn't get the option to become a sewer maintenance worker. The quests would be filthy and boring, but very highly paid with full benefits - ideal work for an Argonian with a pricy mortgage, probably sadly innapropriate for my Khajiit...unless of course he's a Manx.

As people already stated before in this thread, I would only want sewers as a way to sneak into/out of a city when I have a high bounty. Unless they didn't fix the annoying law system and the minute I pop up in the city I'm confronted by guards.

I never really thought about the lack of toilets/sinks until now. :\ I just assumed the ponds around the inner wall of the Imperial City were a good place to empty your chamber pot.

Sewer quests really bored me so I would only really want them to be completely optional as a way to sneak into the city but they would have to be made a bit more useful in that respect otherwise they will be a real waste of the dungeon designers time.

There is some kind of system of running water in Whiterun, check out the screens! We may get sewers.
