SGM Taking Requests

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 1:28 pm

I really don't get the point of large quantities of staticless, untextured land, but I have not problem with you releasing that morrowind heightmap. I mean, its not like we could actually stop you if you wanted to. I suspect that is why you started and finished before you actually got the go-ahead.

This all said, I don't particularly like the idea. Just how much demand is there for a blank textureless version of what we are working on?

I, for example, am requesting landmass for my mod. Adding those masses manually is a crapload of work, so.... And also, it gives nice atmosphere, if you see land outside vvardenfell, just for a feeling, this is not an island in the middle of Pacific. :/

If you "don't get it" or you "don't like it" why are you even bothering to post in here? Who cares.

Because I am one of TR's two admins, and he said he didn't want to release the morrowind landmass without some sort of ok from TR.

To answer your question, I requested this because I don't personally use TR, as I pretty much like to keep a "pristine" Morrowind game aside from graphical enhancers, but I like looking out across the water and seeing something else out there, it makes the island of Vvardenfell feel less isolated and improves immersion for me. I don't need statics or any of the rest of it because my view distance isn't insanely high, so it's enough for me to be able to stand in Vivec and look out and see mountains on the horizon. It's purely for atmospheric purposes. I may try TR at some point in the future (probably when Map 3 comes out), but for now this heightmap is all I'm really looking for. If it truly bothers you, then no worries-- I'll play without it and my game will not suffer for it. But I would hope that it wouldn't be too big of a deal, seeing as how it's not really in competition with your work. After all, as you stated, there's not much comparison to be made between a static-less, untextured heightmap and the detailed work which you've all put into maps 1 and 2 already. It's pretty much entirely a personal thing :)

Your maps are awesome, dude. Could You make me an island for my mod "Elendar"? Something with desert, mountains, lots of smallest islands, but with realistic look. Maybe something like "canary island"? It would be great to have an island with that quality.

It doesn't bother me so much that I mind him releasing it. Even if it did, I am going to say again that he doesn't have to care. TR is just another mod, we have no right to stop anyone from doing anything.

you know, it does say that in my sig as well... Are we really so withdrawn as to warrant such a response?

Ha, luckily for you, i already made a quick mockup of the map the other night while i was bored. I'll post these pictures and you can say yay or nay.

I can certainly work on something for you if you like. Two ways to go about it, pick a RL island that you would like (which was the original idea for the thead :P) or you can use http://i974.photobucket.com/albums/ae229/SG-Monkey/Heightmaps/plan.jpg, which is a to scale map of morrowind, draw over the top of it in paint or photoshop or whatever you use, and that will help me get a better idea of things. Im a bit busy at the moment working on Cyrodil, but that should give you some time to get something made up

I am going to say again that he doesn't have to care.

I don't think he does, and I wouldn't either.

you know, it does say that in my sig as well...

And yet you still felt that you had to mention it. *yawn*

Oh, you were being sarcastic, the internet does not convey that well at all.

I mentioned it because you asked why I posted, and that is pretty much the only reason why.

He apparently does care btw as he has told me via PM he isn't going to release it.

Looks great! :)

Just curious, can that be done as an interior cell as well? I would love to release a mod based on the original Dragon Warrior/Quest game that could be played with regular Morrowind and not conflict with other mods.
Plus there is the dark world version of it in DW3 that actually is in a separate area from the main world map.

Ok, so maybe something like Cyprus? But mirrored in y axis, and not identical. Make some changes, add some smallest islands, and it'd perfect.

Hey Phantom.

Juct mocked this up quick, im planning to add a bit more definition between the mountains on the middle island, and i was thinking of adding paths. Just thought id show you what i made.

http://i974.photobucket.com/albums/ae229/SG-Monkey/Heightmaps/Morrowind2010-07-1311-39-39-76.jpg

Its currently 179 cells just so you know :)

Let me know what you think

EDIT: Made a few changes to the heightmap, and recorded a http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2zXKdLWHP2o

Wow, cool. Very good.

I think that's a little bigger than I was thinking of, can you make it a little smaller,... say around 60 to 80 cells instead?

Cool. North of Dagon Fel, with the southern most part being around 6, 29 (last I checked nothing was currently there...). Of course I'm sure with TR a lot of people are going to start building there.

As for the paths, nah, I think that I can add them myself without making too much of a mess of things.

Hey, ,apologies for the delay, got caught up with Cyrodiil, amongst other things.

Obviously, making your map smaller width wise doesnt affect the height, as you can see from the following pictures. If you don't like it like this i can easily make them smaller for you.
