[WIPz] Shadow of the Ayleidoon (working title)

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 12:56 pm

Okay, another update. Finished the ruin tileset face-lift and added a new lighting scheme to some areas: http://img62.imageshack.us/img62/3946/purplelighting.jpg.<---That's from a test cell btw. And I may have set a record for "number of things activated in a cell by a single switch". I've set up a switch so that (when pressed) it sets off 129 objects one after the other. I timed it and it takes about 2 minutes and 10 seconds for the whole chain to finish activating. http://img28.imageshack.us/img28/2749/atronachattack2.jpg

Hmm, this looks VERY cool! It may even get me back into Oblivion! =]

What kind of clutter and the like are you considering putting into the rooms? I was thinking plenty of tables with various... things on them, so you can make a mess when you fight ;D

There may be as many as 128 of those in that level, depending on how the leveled lists spawn. Some are guaranteed to spawn, while other might spawn. The way that level is set up, no more than 16 will be in a position to attack you at once.

Thanks! I hope you do get back into it. I've been playing video games for about 28 years (yes, I'm really that old :P ) and nothing I've played in that time has ever held me as long as Oblivion has.

http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=20644 among other things. I have some additional ideas that I don't want to reveal yet as they may not be possible.

Here is a screenie from a http://img62.imageshack.us/img62/6428/dangerousroom01.jpg
As soon as you enter that room, those spell turrets start firing. They don't fire at you, just across your path. If you've played through SI, you have an idea of what that room is like. It is possible to get through there without being hit, but it's not easy.

Here's a screenie from another http://www.invision.tesalliance.org/forums/uploads/1267987892/gallery_775_71_94488.jpg:
The spell turrets in the corners are set off by entering the center of the room. Easy to avoid? Not really. There are 4 enemies in the room and it won't be easy to fight them and avoid the center of the room. But, if you're fast enough and can position yourself right, you can get those turrets to take out the enemies instead of you.

Okay, time for some more screens. Got some new Skeleton Warriors (made possible thanks to NateNeurotic at TES Alliance):

Well, that sure looks good. I would have one suggestion, though. I think that those new warlocks deserve something better to wear than those ugly vanilla robes. If something http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=18875 strikes you as interresting, feel free to use the meshes and textures. I guess that the Elven Robe and War Wizard robe might suit you best, but if you like something else, why not. Might add a bit to the experience.

Thanks! I may take you up on that. Mind if I rextexture a couple of them to help distinguish the Warlock ranks?

Definietely not. But be careful some of the textures used in my mod are made by other authors (especially Alien Slof), so some extra credits might be needed, best if you just let me know which you chose and I'll tell you whom to credit or ask for permission to change the textures, just to be on the safe side.

Good luck

Cool. I'm particularly interested in the Dark Warlock Robe, Elven Robe & Battlemage Robe. Possibly, the Dread Mage Robe as well.

I've updated the look of the Skeletons:

http://www.invision.tesalliance.org/forums/uploads/1269708081/gallery_775_71_126010.jpg

And I've made Ayleid versions of each, made possible by a new Skeleton.nif privided by NateNeurotic.

Is it possible to lose the big shoulder plates on the armor for the skeletons, and maybe attach something to their arms while removing some of the more pants-like sections of the legs?

The Dark Warlock robes, Battlemage Robes and Dread Mage Robes were done solely by me, so here is no problem with credits whatsoever. The texture of the Elven robe is based heavily on Alien Slof's work, so you might concider adding her name to the credits as well if you choose to use those.

And those skeletal wariors of yours look really sweet! Very ncie work indeed.

Probably, but I don't know how to do it. I tried, but got a CTD as soon as I entered the same cell as the modified skellie.

The Dark Warlock robes, Battlemage Robes and Dread Mage Robes were done solely by me, so here is no problem with credits whatsoever.

Cool. I'll probaly make 3 or 4 retextures for each. And, since these are yours to begin with, I'll send you a file with the new stuff so you can put it in your mod if you want.

The texture of the Elven robe is based heavily on Alien Slof's work, so you might consider adding her name to the credits as well if you choose to use those.

Will do.

And those skeletal wariors of yours look really sweet! Very nice work indeed.

Thanks! :D

Did you rig the new thing properly? If not that might have caused the CTD.

Well, to say I'm having a bad day today would be a severe understatement. My trusty desktop got attacked by another virus that McAfee just let right through. Every file on it was either corrupted or erased. The result? Shadow Of The Ayleidoon is gone. My backups? Gone. Everything I've worked on for about a year? Gone. Right now, I just don't have the heart to start from scratch. So, for the time being, SOTA is dead. To all those who were looking forward to the release, I'm sorry.

Ouch. Dude, I so feel sorry for you right now. This is the sort of thing that made me start backing up everything I cared about on my computer every two or three months. I am saddened, as this one was on my "watch list". I hope someday you find it in you to re-create it, but I really doubt that you would ever feel like it after all that work.

Thanks. :foodndrink:

This is the sort of thing that made me start backing up everything I cared about on my computer every two or three months.

I had about 50 backups at various stages of progress on my PC, but they were wiped out too. From now on, I'll put backups in multiple locations (external hard drive, flash drives, online storage sites, the works). At my age, I should already know better than to put put all of my eggs in one basket. :shakehead:

I am saddened, as this one was on my "watch list".

The worst part is, I was about 2 or 3 months away from release. If I ever find the bugger who sent me that virus...well, since my cousin is an attorney, I'm sure we could find a way to make his (or her) life a living hell for a while. :chaos:

I hope someday you find it in you to re-create it, but I really doubt that you would ever feel like it after all that work.

Right now, my feelings on the matter are too chaotic to adequately put into words. But I know myself well enough to know that it's not unlikely I'll start over at some point. One of the reasons it took me so long to get this far on the mod is that I kept running into Modders Block. I know what all of my dungeon layouts are (I mapped them out on paper before making them in the CS), I know all of their locations (I have a 3 x 2 ft laminated cell grid map with them marked) and I have tons of other stuff written down. I could probably get back to my last progress point in 3-4 months (pathgridding would take up most of that time  ). Yep, I can already tell. When I get over this outrage, I will restart. How long it will be until then, I just don't know. If only I had been as meticulous about my backups as I was about my notes...

Teaches you to stay off porm sites.

I do not visit sites that produce and distribute garbage like that, and I resent the implication. Even as a joke, that remark is highly offensive.
