My shadows have gone weird and blocky

Post » Wed Nov 04, 2009 12:18 am

All of a sudden my shadows have gone completely strange. It seemed to happen when I patched the exe to LAA, although I know that wouldn't affect anything. My shadow map resolution is set to 1024 in the ini.

Confused. Any suggestions?

The linked image is with shadow filtering off. If I turn it on the blockiness is still there, just filtered. Also the shadows flicker on and off depending on viewing angle. I have streamline and OSR, have disabled streamsmooth.

Figured it out. It was a mesh called base.nif in the root of the meshes folder. Anyone know what that's about? Gone through my bain installs but can't find it missing so it's a mystery to me.

Cobl has it. Seems connected to something in Skingrad - at least the texture is named skingradbase01.dds. No idea why it would affect shadows - doesn't in my game.

Actually I figured it was some meshes for the Imperial Legion Dragon Armor that got replaced - not sure by what mod. I deleted them and replaced the meshes with the ones included in the Unofficial Patch and it sorted it out.
