Shame, shame, shame

Seriously, guys, what were you thinking when you released this game at a price of sixty dollars? Granted - it has many great things about it. The story is immersive, the music (all what, 6 songs?) - excellent (except the cheesy recycled "Oblivion" music...), the humor engaging, graphics - decent.

But all of that (best being the story) means diddly - IF YOU CAN'T PLAY THE GAME.

I have been playing now for prolly 35 hours or so. I have encountered so many irritating (if surmountable) bugs - the most "dangerous' being the crashes with loads. Lots and lots and lots of them. I've gotten so I cringe each time there's a load screen (don't *always* remember to save before a load screen - and, more importantly, I shouldn't HAVE to remember!). But tonight takes the cake. I've made it to Lucky 38 casino - and when I try to exit - I get a black screen. Reloading the game from entering the casino = same result. Black screen. The next saved game will put me back 15 or so hours of game play.

Boo.

I can understand (and forgive) the problems with making a PC game "playable" - given the myriad of computer configurations. But guys - there's only 1 PS3 config.

Oh and please work on the maps. They are HORRID! Especially in a game of this magnitude - maps are SO key.

I completely agree. I am furious that I paid so much for this game and during the 40 hours I've played sofar, it has frozen 15-20 times at least. I'm tired of replaying the same things because I forgot to save. It freezes when loading, discovering new locations, or just when walking around. This game should not have been released if it wasn't ready!!!

I'm still in a state of shock. Especially now, after reading the posts on this board.

What Bethesda did was just unconscionable. I understand deadlines and pressures to meet them, but sometimes you have to have the balls to say, "It isn't ready. And more importantly, it isn't *right* that we release this game."

I'm an older advlt, one with a pretty lucrative career. Sixty bucks isn't a big deal to me.

But for a LOT of gamers - it is. A HUGE deal.

Even worse, Bethesda knows they have you against the wall since no store that *I* know of will let you return the game because the software is BROKEN. You might be able to get another game of NV - but your money is now tied to that game.

How different things would be if we could return, for complete refunds, games that are UNPLAYABLE.

Betcha then - these svckers would run like tops!

Instead, companies release these unfinished games, falsely banking on their ability to "fix" all these issues with post release patches.

And we, the gamers, continue to buy right into it.

What Bethesda and other companies are doing is unconscionable, and unethical - what we gamers are doing, is just plain stupidity. :)

Wow, you know what I love? I love it when I've been waiting forever for new Vegas to come out, I loved when my boyfriend surprised me by pre-ordering New Vegas for me for my birthday! What I also love is not being able to play it because I can't leave the [censored] casino. I wouldn't mind waiting just a bit longer for new vegas if it meant that when I got the game I could actually play it.

XOXO

I couldn't agree more. It is far far far far far far less annoying to get a release date pushed ahead for a much anticipated game, than it is to start PLAYING that much anticipated game, (sometimes for HOURS and HOURS), have the myriad bugs make the game UNPLAYABLE, - only to be told "we'll have a patch in the coming weeks".

What a farce.

Sorry about the birthday. Hopefully you had other nice things to make up for it! :D

yup, same sitch here...

and it's strange I find that I was able to play the game
for the first about 12 hours with no problems whatsoever...

I did a manual save, shut my PS3 off for the night,
got up the next day, loaded up my save and that's
when all the trouble started...

Total system crash after a couple of hours of playtime..
and it doesn't seem to matter what I am doing at the time...
outdoors, indoors, lots of NPCs, whatever..

Then I made the mistake of letting the game install the newest patch
in the dire hope that the freezing problem would stop... heh, it
is now worse than it was before... i.e., can't play for more than
20 minutes without a total system reboot... wtf?

PS3 120gb (bought new only about 3 months ago..)

all my other games work fine...

Sorry to hear that Shermz - but it just proves my (and many others) point - clearly these are easily reproduced issues. And I have a very very hard time believing that they weren't noted at some point during production.

Yet the game was released.

Unbelievable.

I wouldn't recommend playing the game at all, for fear of the hard resets causing some damage to your console. However, if you must, shut off cinimatics, subtitles, and all auto save functions. your play time will be extended well over an hour at a time. I have a ps3 120gb as well. Try not to listen to the in game radio, try not to use VATs unless you have too. You'll find the game becomes much better to handle. Keep many many saves, I had a core save, wich was my main, and about 20+ extra saves from various points. Litterally save every 10-15 minutes, only use core save when your done for the day. I was able to push threw almost all of the game this way. if your desperate hope this helps. Just keep in mind after the first hour or two your game is going to crash... save more and more often. Also remember during quests i'd say the majority of them are bugged in alot of places, so keep multiple saves prior and after each quest step. Peace.

This game is broken. I'm sure the developers would have delayed release without the pressure from business executives wanting the game to get out early in the Christmas shopping season. I've bought a 160GB PS3 a couple months ago after my 20GB launch model burned out, and I'm seriously worried that the constant (like 1-3 per day) reboots are going to damage my new PS3. This is the only game that crashes on me. The crashing needs to be resolved above all else. Boone's final companion mission ("Forgot to Remember to Forget") took 5 attempts to get through it without crashing, and my successful attempt just barely made it. I haven't even gotten to the final Hoover Dam battle. If the Bitter Springs battle lugged that much, I'd expect the Hoover battle will cause my residential block's power to blackout!
