Shelter from Magnus' Blaze 9

Is anyone else having problems with the internal MWSE function? If so is there a way to fix it, I really want to play MW and use MGE XE.

Occasionally I've had problems. Here's how to fix it. In mge, go to the ingame tab. Right on the top, there's a button that says, "Disable internal MWSE". Check that, download mwse from sourceforge, and run morrowind through that.

Bloodmoon gets a pretty big FPS hit with shadows enabled, has anyone got any tips for reducing this?

You can toggle some functions with macros (In-game tab -> Macro editor).
For example toggling shaders or shadows by use of a key.
Good to compare fps.

That's pretty much how I've got it set up, without shadows Solstheim (no mods) is solidly at 60fps vsync, with shadows it's dropping down to 40-50fps in most areas, I'm assuming it's all the trees as I hardly get any slowdown on the mainland :(

Hi guys, i havent played morrowind in years and though i should get it another shot and noticed this really nice graphic improvements. So after following the guidelines and launching this for the first time, it didnt came through, as i did what it told me to do. After i loaded the MW's launcher and the resolution settting, then going through tests and configured (passed). So i closed the MGE then launch the game, kept telling me that cannot contined because it havent been activated (scrom something). I got this game from d2d/gamefly from digital download 9.99 wasnt bad at all. Believe its fully patches and yes all expansion, the game is GotY.

Some years back i heard that there a way to get around this and i have no clues how to fix this and looking forward to try out the new Morrowind's Experience. So any tips or helps would be grateful

Here more infos what its trying to tell me when i launch the game...

A required security module cannot be activated.
This program cannot be executed (6005).

Please have a look at http://www.securom.com/messange.asp?m=module&c=6005 for further, more detailed information.

Also the MGE is version .9 i believe, so that link above have some serious complex stuffs and still trying to get around this issues.

I... I'll try to help, but I'm not quite sure what you said.
1) Did you download DirectX 9.0c June 2010?
2) Are you running both MGEXEgui.exe and morrowind.exe as administrator?

DD versions(except Steam) are not supported because of additional encryption. You can't run FPSO or exe optimizer tools too, am I correct? I don't know a way around it, sorry.

Nope, making a version for an encrypted executable would be nigh on impossible, and I'm fairly sure illegal in several countries. I'm afraid you'll have to buy the cd or steam version to use MGE XE.

redindus, Morrowind Overhaul Sound and Graphics (MOSG) by Kingpix might help.

It sounds like you're running Win 7. There's a few threads in the forum with tips and gotchas about installing MW GOTY (Steam and non-Steam).

Also, MGE and MGE XE are different programs. IIRC MGE XE is up to something like ver 0.98. I believe MOSG gives you the option to choose which one.

Just saw two previous posts. I have no idea about the encrypted thing. Sorry

Several platforms, notably direct2drive, "encrypt" the executable to prevent piracy. For the purposes of this conversation, it is enough to say that they messed with the code enough that no external programs are able to modify it, which is a shame.

That the problems, if you are lucky to find it since they dont make CD/Packages anymore, mostly are digital download. Oh well guess i will dump Morrowind and play Skyrim, Diablo III will be out soon, that should keep me company.

Nah its Vista 64bit 2SP, its okay i find something else to do. Too bad they never mention this before. It will be kinda tricky getting the package though.

Just a thought or two. AFAIK, neither MGE nor MGE XE make patches to the games .exe itself. However, Morrowind Code Patch does. MGE and MGE XE do their magic using a customized .dll file. Not sure if that can give you some ideas.

Although it may be a poor, second best solution, there are other mods out there that do not require MGE or XE to run. I'm thinking something like Vibrant Morrowind, Visual Pack, Richer Textures, Better Bodies plus all the specialized replacer mods for armor, weapons and so on. I don't use MOSG, but I have the impression that you can skip installing MGE or XE and use it to install the other mods in the compilation.

And IDK your budget, but you still might be able to find and buy a disk version of the GOTY edition using say Amazon or eBay or apparently there's some type of special on Steam atm.

Good luck.

Ebay's your best bet. I was able to get the big box collectors edition for around £25 last year.

Amazon still have the MW GOTY on disc. You might find some information on the securom site. From the scrom error, I believe that is the company that does the encryption.

Not to put a damper, but keep in mind that from day one the game has had CTD problems. That hasn't kept a lot of us from playing, just adapting our playing to include frequent saves

Several years ago, I started using MGE because other players thought it helped to reduce the frequency of CTDs. It seemed to, but it's hard for me to say with 100% certainty because I've upgraded my pc over the years and I use Morrowind Code Patch (which alters the game executable itself) to address some other game issues. My most recent computer upgrade was a new video card (I guess low to mid level) that could handle level 3 Shaders, which is what MGE XE requires (recommends) and therefore switched to running MGE XE. It's been an interesting experience - not negative, just 'interesting'. For one thing, it may be overkill wrt shaders because my eyesight is probably not as able anymore to see the detailed graphic improvement others report. But in other respects, it's been very nice. Another plus is that MGE XE is being maintained and updated by Hrnchamd at a more frequent pace than MGE. You can get support for either one in the appropriate forum, and the people are nice and try to help.

That is true, i do remember having alot of CTDs back then. Back then i didnt have much knowledges on hardwares and tune/improve gameplay. Anyway i am going to keep this Morrowind GOTY that i download and no point buying another. If that disk/CDs ever get damage or lost, then i will be as good as dead. Beside i think digital download is a great thing, because it wouldnt wear down your cd/dvd drive's life.

Enjoy the game. There's definitely a lot of mods from which to choose that can change the look of the game without using MGE or MGE XE

Honestly, I recommend running through the game at least once without textures packs/MGE etc. The biggest problem is no Code patch, without which I wouldn't play.
