Can anybody tell me why you find Sheogorath in the Mantellan Crux area in Daggerfall. He doesn't say anything except that you'll probably see him around sometime again and that the Benefactor isn't any more a god than he is. Did I miss something?

Also, why is that in Daggerfall people (normal ones, not daedra worshipers) give blessing of Oblivion and call Aetherius a 'Netherworld'. Shouldn't it be the other way around?

He is the daedric lord of madness, trying to find a rhyme or reason to what he's doing probably isn't going to lead anywhere.

The easiest out-of-world explanation for Sheogorath's appearance is that by Daggerfall, Aetherius had not been fleshed out to the (slight) degree that it has been by Oblivion. During Daggerfall, Aetherius was simply just another plane, like oblivion.

If you want an in-world explanation: what would be more maddening than for someone's journey to the mostly Anu-aligned area of the Aurbis (a place notoriously hard to get into while alive or not a Daedra) to find that a Daedra seems to be able to travel quite easily here.

What I figure is that the Mantella Crux is not actually in the Aetherius, but rather at the very edge; the Mantella itself was the only thing actually inside the Aetherius, with the Crux being the last leg of the journey to Aetherius. I figure Sheogorath can get to the edge, as well.

Now, as to WHY (as opposed to how), I'm really not sure. I'm tempted to call it an author-insertion.
